Chapter 107

I Refuse to Divorce!

The servant knocked on the door and said, “Dinner is served, Mr.

Mason. Will you be having dinner now?”

"Sure! We'll have dinner now.”

The servant went downstairs. Her footsteps trailed off, but he still kept

Zoe pinned down. She couldn't help but squirm a little.

“Aren't we going to have dinner now? Help me up.”

In response, he stared back at her wordlessly. She couldn't fathom

what was on his mind. She tried pushing him away, but he grabbed her

arm and put it back on his chest. His heartbeat was strong and

throbbed rhythmically.

She pulled back her hand abruptly, as if she had just touched fire.

He pinched her chin gently and chuckled, “Did that scare you as well?

What's on your mind, Zoe?"

She couldn't cope with this new side of Mason. Truth be told, she was

missing his ruthless ways a little. He might hurt her, but she could brave

through the pain. Now, however, she wasn't sure what to make of him.

Turning her back at him, she straightened out her dress. Then, she

rose and walked to the door.

“I'll take your suitcases to the bedroom. Tidy yourself up and come

down for dinner, Mason.”

However, she didn’t hear anything from behind her.

Holding the doorknob, she couldn't help but turn around and check on

him. Mason was leaning on the couch, looking right back at her. He

chuckled and asked, “Are you embarrassed, Zoe?"

Pursing her lips, she responded softly, “We've been married for so long.

What do you think?"

He left it at that and lit up a cigarette after she left. A wisp of smoke

rose and clouded his unreadable expression. He had honed his

observation skills in the business world and was extremely perceptive.

Of course, he could tell she wasn't being entirely honest with him.

Smart guys know that ladies dig it when guys are gentle with them.

They simply couldn't resist it.

Mason wanted to reconcile with her, but that didn’t mean he had to

apologize to her and explain himself like some guys did. Zoe had loved

him in the past. All he had to do was mesmerize her with his charm.

If everything went well, she'd rediscover her love for him in no time.

Then, he'd keep a clear head and watch as she succumbed to him.

She'd even go so far as to have a baby with him. It would be too early

to try this year, though. Next year, perhaps. Then, he'd have a wife and

a baby. That would be good.

He finished smoking the cigarette in silence and went downstairs to

have dinner. He acted normal and didn't unleash his charms on her

during dinner. After that, he adjourned to his study to do some work.

Zoe let out a sigh of relief.

Night came and she sat at the makeup table to apply her skincare after

she took her bath.

Casting her mind back to the intimate moment they shared that

evening, she thought it was just a spur of the moment whim. Cold

indifference was the main element in their marriage, after all.

Then, she took out Liam's business card from her drawer.

“Take my business card, Zoe. You'll need my services again when

we're through with Noah's case!”

Recalling what he said, her heart started pounding like crazy.

That was when a sound came from the door. She could tell it was

Mason's footsteps, so she chucked the business card into her diary.

It was probably safe there. After all, he had never shown any interest in

what happened during her early years. She'd even say he looked down

on her past life.

At that moment, Mason had entered the bedroom. He saw his wife

dressed in a silk robe and applying her skincare. She might have tried

to play it cool, but he knew something was amiss. After all, Zoe's ears

turned red when she was feeling guilty.

Hugging her from behind, he pulled open the drawer bit by bit and

asked casually, “What were you looking at?”
