Chapter Two

The Hot Head's Girl

That was three years ago, when I woke up I was in a hospital, my aunt Athena was by my side where she told me Mum and Dad were gone....

I was destroyed at the thought, Athena also told me that she thought that it wasn't no accident, she was closing her shop up and was nearly attacked. See ever since my Grams died Athena and my dad were investigating it because her death was strange.

I knew about it only because Dad would tell me everything, even if it was something bad, we never kept secrets in this family.

So the vampires who attacked us wasn't an accident either, they came after us for a reason.

I didn't even know what to think or how to feel, I was just nub through it....my parents were just gone.

The leader of the vamp trio escaped but the wolf pack tore his lackeys apart. Carlisle made a promise that if he should ever return, they would help me as would my aunt.

I made promises to never tell anyone, because of a rule that we're not allowed to out the other communities believe it or not there are thousands of them. Vampires, wolves, witches and many that would take forever to name. Because my parents were gone, I moved in with my uncle Charlie. Mum's brother and one of Dad's best friends.

I could have gone with Athena but I wanted to stay in Forks, it was where my family lived for many generations and I didn't want Charlie to be alone. With my mother's death he had no one else so my aunt signed some papers and I stayed with my uncle.

---

Anyway, it was the end of a long school week that brought news to my attention, I was out in my small greenhouse when my uncle Charlie told me that my older cousin Isabella, Bella was coming to live with us.

When Bella was two and I was one, her mother Renee decided she no longer wanted to live in a small one-horse town and divorced my uncle, taking my cousin with her and leaving my uncle completely heartbroken.

She ended up moving to Arizona and found a much younger man named Phil who was a traveling baseball guy.

The last three years have been a pain since losing my parents, I was never the same especially knowing that it wasn't an accident.

I would never forget that night and I worked on my magic and power every day so if the day came and I run across the monsters who killed my parents I would never let them go.

As promised, I never told anyone other than those that were there that day, it was very hard to lie to my uncle about his sister's real death, but I wanted him to stay safe. Living with Charlie was the best, he treated me like his own daughter.

----

Anyway, I had a few weeks to get things done for the arrival. I got to cleaning out Bella's old room that had boxes piled up. I was a year younger than my cousin.

So for the entire next month I had been working hard to get it done and it was a lot of work. I moved stuff out so I could paint the room and put a carpet down on the wood floor so it would be all warm and cozy and then bring in furniture.

I made the bed and gave her one of my purple quilts with black flowers temporary.

"Wow sweetheart this looks great." Charlie said stepping into the room just as I had opened the window to let fresh air in, I had a candle lit creating a rose smelly atmosphere.

I smiled at him widely and stepped over to him to overlook what I did.

"Thanks, I hope she'll like it." I told him staring at my work. "I found Grandpa Swan's old desk in the attic and fixed it up and Sue gave me the quilt last year but since I got a new one this year I don't need this one... it took a lot of work."

"Well, you did great." Charlie said wrapping his arm around my shoulder and gave it a pat.

I smiled, Charlie left the bedroom while I glanced around one last time making sure things were done and blew the candle out before leaving the room.

I headed a short step into the room next to Bella's which was my room. It was a pretty well sized room walls painted black and had more of a modern witch style. There was a mix of black and purple because purple was my favorite color. The black actually made the purple stand out more.

There was a small closet door on one of the walls that looked like a normal closet full of clothes and whatnot but it could open up into a slightly bigger room where I kept all my witch stuff like my portable cauldrons, trunks and a bookshelf with several mini wooden boxes that carried all of my herbs, roots and powders and things I needed, my family chest was kept in that room.

The chest carried the family Spell book and my family tree all the way to our founder Agatha. It was given to me by my grandmother and it was one of her most prized possessions. The family tree had details on each of our family members like their life stories and things they did like Elise who I mentioned was an imprintee and saved the tribe from a vampire or Eleanor's son Easton who had created a magical baseball or even my Grams herself being involved in the treaty between the Cullens and the shifters.. My Grams mother was on it too but she, Evan and Elise had a distant relationship with their mother, they never liked to talk about the past so we never asked but we were a very close family. I still go to visit them every summer with Athena.

Just because Grams and my dad were gone didn't mean we weren't still a family, we all have the Lovelace magic running through our veins and they all said if I ever needed anything they would do they're best.

My family has a lot of history in this town.

Anyway the door could only be open with magic and always vanished and turned into a simple closet. There were times I loved being a witch.

On the walls were a bunch of pictures of various people, like one of my parents and one of my grandparents, several photos of my friends. By my bed there was a bedside table with a picture of the entire Lovelace family.

In a corner of the room there was a bunch of cat stuff including a purplish cat tree for my familiar Piper.

My room was beside Bella's and across from Charlie's, it was looking towards the backyard where my garden was.

It was almost always raining and damp here, so it was hard to grow things. Old Quil Ateara made me a small makeshift greenhouse so I could grow my veggies and survive.

The house itself had three bedrooms, a tiny attic and one bathroom, with the kitchen being the biggest room.

----

Changing my clothes, I put on an old La Push sweatshirt feeling a little cold and headed downstairs, tying my long hair up as I walked down.

"Hey uncle Charlie." I called once I got to the bottom step and looked through the arch into the living room, Charlie was watching the game since it was that day. "Did you want to order a pizza from Crowley's? I got a ton of homework and figured I'd wait to go food shopping till Bella gets here."

"Sure, sweetheart the usual?" He asked without turning to me. "Half meat lovers and half veggie?"

"With Green peppers and ranch." I said seeing his head nod.

I smiled even though my uncle was a meat eater, and I wasn't, we made it work. I was kind of a strict vegetarian, when I was little, I went to a farm that a friend of mine lived on... it was butchering day, and not only did I see things, but I read its mind and felt it's pain as it died.... it was the most horrible thing ever.

I could never look at an animal the same way.

All witches have the same gifts such as teleportation, telekinesis, spell casting potion making the works. I also had telepathy and aura mancy and I could heal people just like Dad.

My Dad was the best healer in the world, it's part of why he became a doctor but there were rules and limits to our healing.

"I'll call Crowley's." I told them turning into the kitchen. "Tyler owes me a free one."

He nodded.

---------------------------

The weeks leading up to Bella's arrival seemed to draw closer, I was getting very excited to see my cousin. Bella and I were really close, she's only a year older than me but I skipped a grade.

We've talked on the phone all the time and emailed just like I do with all my cousins, but it wasn't the same.

School was going by; On the weekends I hung out with all my friends from the Rez like Sam and Leah.

I went to school in Forks and had many friends there including the Cullens I hung out at their house all the time; their house was the one place I didn't have to hide my magic but I loved being with my friends on the Rez too. I often alternated between all of my friends.

"Hey, so you getting excited about your cousin coming?" Leah asked.

We were walking on the beach headed back to her house from the Ateara Household. I had a medium sized wooden box in my arms.

"A little." I told her watching people play in the water. "I just hope she likes being here."

"Well, you just better not forget me." She told me stern but playful.

"Of course, not Lee-Lee." I told her grinning. "You know you, Jazz and Quinn are my top girls."

That made her smile.

"I'm really excited though." I told her wrapping my purple and black plaid jacket around myself without dropping my stuff. It was a little cold by the water, with it nearly being the beginning of winter. It was rainy and dark skied weather. "I plan on making homemade mushroom ravioli for her homecoming."

"Ah which is why you asked Old Ateara for his best grown mushrooms?" Leah asked knowingly.

"Yup no one grows fresh veggies like Quil's grandpa." I told her making her smile happily. "He gave nearly all his big ones."

We got closer to her house where my purple jeep wrangler was parked.

"Leah, Lena!" I heard voices call.

Adjusting the box in my hand I turned seeing Sam, Jared and Paul making their way over to us. My eyes instantly went to Paul and felt a blush coming to my face. He had such gorgeous russet toned skin common for those who live on the Rez, gorgeous dark eyes and a defined jaw and yes I had a huge crush on him but only Leah knew about it.

He was a huge flirt and kind of a hothead, a typical bad boy type but he was still a good friend even though he liked to start fights especially with Jacob.

I've been friends with Leah and Sam, Jacob, Quil and Embry since we were kids since my dad was friends with Billy and Harry and my Grams was close with old Quil and his late wife. Jared and Paul were Sam's friends who hung out with us casually, so they became part of my circle of friends too.

Sam moved his arm around Leah's shoulder and kissed her cheek, making her smile.

"Hey." Leah and I greeted in sync.

"Heard your cousin was coming tomorrow." Jared said making me nod.

"I'll be picking her up at the airport." I said giving him a light smile adjusting my hold on the box, we stopped alongside my jeep.

"Here." Paul said taking the box from me, his hands brushed across mine, putting it in the back for me.

"Thank you." I told him smiling. "I should get going still gotta make dinner for Charlie plus long drive tomorrow, I had to ditch Jacob today just so I can get everything ready and be on time tomorrow."

"Black'll get over it." Paul said waving his hand dismissively.

I paused staring at him.

"Stop picking on Jake." I told him firmly.

Leah tackled me in a hug making me giggle.

Pulling back I opened the driver's door and climbed in. The engine came roaring to life as I turned the key and shut the door.

Giving them a small smile I drove off.
