Chapter 20: A New Dawn
i belong to you
The morning sun streamed through the large windows of their shared apartment, casting a golden glow over the room. Taehyung sat at the dining table, a steaming cup of coffee in his hands, lost in thought. The events of the past few weeks had brought both pain and resolution, yet he couldn't help but feel that the chapter of his life he'd long been fighting to close had finally reached its end.
Jungkook entered the room, his hair slightly messy from sleep, wearing one of Taehyungâs oversized sweaters. He looked at Taehyung and immediately sensed the contemplative air surrounding him. Without a word, Jungkook walked over and wrapped his arms around Taehyung from behind, resting his chin on his shoulder.
"Penny for your thoughts?" Jungkook asked softly, his voice carrying a warmth that eased the tension in Taehyung's shoulders.
Taehyung leaned into the embrace, his lips curving into a small smile. "Just thinking about how far we've come. About us. About Taeko."
Jungkook nodded, placing a kiss on Taehyung's temple before moving to sit across from him. "He's still asleep, by the way. That kid sleeps like a log."
Taehyung chuckled. "Takes after you."
Their laughter faded into a comfortable silence, the kind that only two people deeply connected could share. But it wasnât long before the quiet moment was interrupted by the sound of small, hurried footsteps approaching.
"Dads!" Taeko called out, his excitement evident as he rushed into the room. He was clutching a drawing in his hand, his eyes bright. "Look what I made!"
Jungkook immediately scooped him up, settling him on his lap as Taeko held out the paper for both men to see. It was a colorful drawing of the three of them, standing together under a bright yellow sun, with a large heart above their heads.
"It's beautiful," Taehyung said, his voice filled with genuine admiration. "Youâre quite the artist, Taeko."
Taeko beamed, leaning into Jungkook. "I wanted to draw us as a family. Because that's what we are, right?"
Jungkookâs heart clenched at the boyâs words, and he glanced at Taehyung, who was already looking back at him with the same mixture of love and emotion.
"Of course, Taeko," Jungkook said, his voice soft. "Weâre a family. Always."
As the morning progressed, the three of them spent their time together, laughing, talking, and simply enjoying the peace that had settled over their lives. It was a stark contrast to the chaos they had endured, and it was a reminder of how far they had come as individuals and as a unit.
Later that evening, as Taeko lay asleep in his room, Jungkook and Taehyung found themselves back on the balcony, watching the city lights twinkle like stars.
"I think weâre finally where weâre meant to be," Taehyung said, his voice barely above a whisper.
Jungkook reached for his hand, intertwining their fingers. "Weâve fought hard to get here. And no matter what happens, weâll keep fighting. For us, for Taeko."
Taehyung turned to face him, his expression soft yet determined. "I love you, Jungkook. More than I ever thought I could love anyone."
Jungkook smiled, pulling Taehyung closer. "I love you too. And Iâll spend the rest of my life proving it to you."
As they stood there, wrapped in each other's warmth, the world around them seemed to fade away. They had faced the storms, the misunderstandings, and the heartbreak, and they had emerged stronger, together.
This was their new dawnâa life built on love, trust, and the unshakable bond of family. And for the first time in a long time, the future felt bright, full of endless possibilities.
Their story wasnât perfect, but it was theirs. And that was all they needed.
