Chapter 94

Ethan’s Vengeance of Love

“You know we’re just temporarily married, don’t you? I don’t think it’s right of you to pry into my private

life.” Alice frowned in confusion.

He’s being too pushy. Our relationship isn’t even that close. She didn’t want to lie, but this was about

Apollo and she couldn’t tell anyone about his existence just yet. Even though they were married, it was

just a fake marriage, so they should just act their part. She never poked her nose into his business, so

she expected him to do the same with her. We had a deal.

“We’re just temporarily married?” Ethan froze. He had always wondered why she treated their marriage

differently. He wondered why she thought their marriage would be different from everyone else’s.

Alice thought that question was stupid. He should know the answer. Still, he was staring at her, so she

answered, “We only got married so Caroline can get back into the Knight Family, and besides…”

Ethan kept staring at her in silence, and it was starting to bother the usually composed Alice. She was

starting to feel her skin crawl, and her voice trailed off, eventually turning into something less than a

whisper.

Ethan was still staring at her, and now he was coming closer to her. The aura around him was

pressuring Alice. Slowly, he said in her ear, “Well? Finish it.”

Alice felt her heart shudder for no reason. It was weird. She was usually brave, but somehow, she was

scared into silence with just a look from Ethan. Why am I even scared?

He made me marry him, and he made me sign the contract. I can tell him everything, so why am I

scared? Fine, he wants the answer? I’ll give him an answer. I’ll remind him that we had a deal and that

I expect him to follow it through. I don’t want him pestering me about Apollo.

Alice held her fear down, raised her head, and stared into his eyes. “Besides, I…”

The sentence was cut short by Caroline who said, “What are you doing, Mommy? Come over.”

“Right away.” Oh, right. Caroline’s waiting for me.

Ethan held her hand. “Finish what you were saying.”

What is wrong with him? Alice heaved a sigh and was about to finish what she was saying, but then

Ethan’s phone rang.

Alice swallowed her words. “You should get that call. I’ll check on Caroline.” She wouldn’t butt into

Ethan’s business, so whenever he had calls, she would move away in case it was an important call.

Ethan looked at his phone. The call was from Caleb. He must have found something. Alice had left the

room, so Ethan took the call.

“Sir, I just found out that Bruce came back from Cliaria earlier today at about three thirty,” said Caleb

carefully.

Ethan told him to check everyone who landed at about three and find out if there was anyone related to

Alice, and he did find one—Bruce. Bruce had landed at about three thirty, and it was about the same

time Alice went to the airport. He really didn’t want to tell Ethan about it, but since he found the

information, he didn’t dare to hide it and reported it to Ethan.

“So, you’re telling me she went to pick Bruce up?” Ethan looked at the closed door as his face

darkened.

That’s who she was picking up? That’s the guy who’s more important to her than her own life? And was

the reason she’s hiding just now related to Bruce? If she was picking Bruce up, then that means she

thinks Bruce is more important to her than herself.

Caleb gulped, not daring to answer him. Ethan and Bruce landed at almost the same time, and Alice

went to the airport not for him, but for Bruce. This was a terrifying question, and one he would not

answer. He had checked everyone who landed in that time period, and aside from Ethan, Bruce was

the only one who knew Alice. “Perhaps she did go to pick you up,” said Caleb, though he didn’t believe

it. When he connected the dots, he realized that Alice didn’t go to the airport for Ethan.

Ethan sneered. No. She clearly said she wasn’t there for me. She was there for someone more

important to her than her own life. That’s what she said. It just so happens that Bruce landed at the

same time.

Ethan hung up. She said I married her because of Caroline, well now I think she’s the source of my

anger. He left the room and came face to face with Caroline.

He could hear Alice telling Caroline a bedtime story. Her voice was soft and gentle, and it could heal

anyone who was in a bad mood.

Ethan listened for a while, and then he broke into a smile. Perhaps we’re destined to be together so

she can annoy me. Fine, this is my choice, so I’ll live with it. Soon enough, Ethan would know the

annoyance would extend far and wide.

Ethan left home early the next morning. He didn’t even get to talk to Mr. Rivers the day before because

he tailed Alice, so he rescheduled it for this morning. Alice played with Caroline for a while and got

ready to go to Majestic Plaza to see Apollo, but the moment she left home, Keith called her.

“Do you have time?” Keith had always been someone who cut to the chase quickly. “Let’s meet up. We

need to talk.”
