Chapter 96

Chris wasn’t worried about this. He thought Alice wouldn’t say yes, no matter what. She is a married

woman, after all. Keith is a good man too. I would say he’s one of the best in this city, but Ethan’s a bit

better. Chris thought Alice would unequivocally refuse him. “I’ll turn the speaker on so you can hear

their conversation.” Chris turned the speaker on so Ethan could hear Alice refuse the proposal.

Alice was about to ask Keith about that event seven years ago, but she couldn’t be too direct. If Keith

was the one who slept with her, then it would be fine, but if he was not, it would be awkward for both of

them.

Just when she was about to ask him if he had found her again and saved her back then, he proposed.

She froze for a few moments and quickly wondered why Keith would propose. Does that mean he was

the one who slept with me? Why else would anyone propose to a woman they have barely met?

For a moment, Alice was stunned by how forward Keith was. She was already suspecting that he might

be the one who slept with her, and now she was almost certain. It is very possible that he’s Apollo’s

father.

The sudden proposal came as a surprise, and she was shocked. Before she even realized it, she

blurted, “You don’t have to do this.”

Even if he was the man who slept with her, there was no need for him to do this. He didn’t have to

marry her over responsibility. There was no need to marry her even if he was Apollo’s father. What

happened seven years ago was an accident, and in a sense, he saved her back then.

Chris turned on the volume so Ethan could hear Alice’s response. Chris heard it as well, and he froze.

What’s that supposed to mean? Is that a refusal? I think it does, but it doesn’t sound like it. It feels like

she’s playing hard to get, though. She’s Ethan’s wife. What is she doing? Oh no. Ethan must have

heard that too. Christ blurted, “That was a refusal. Not a total one though, but it was still a refusal.”

Ethan’s face fell. You call that a refusal? She is my wife, and now another man is proposing to her, but

she’s not giving him a clear answer.

“No. I must marry you.” Keith stared at Alice seriously.

Alice pursed her lips. She was taken aback by the proposal, so her refusal might sound a bit too soft.

He thinks there’s space to negotiate. She was trying to come up with a way to turn him down gently. He

saved her, and he might have been the one who slept with her seven years ago, making him Apollo’s

father.

He might be proposing because he wanted to take responsibility for what happened seven years ago.

He was obviously a responsible guy, so she wanted to make the rejection as nice as possible so his

ego wouldn’t be hurt. If he was Apollo’s father, they would be in touch someday soon.

She might be married to Ethan, but the agreement said their marriage must be a secret, so she couldn’t

even tell Keith she was married to Ethan. She could tell him she was married and keep the name of her

husband a secret, but she knew Keith would be able to find out who it was if he wanted to. “You don’t

have to.” She wanted to tell him there was no need to take responsibility for an accident.

“I’m Keith Rowland. I’m twenty-seven years old, six-foot-one, and healthy—physiologically and

psychologically speaking. I don’t have any bad habits, but I can’t tell you about my work. It’s a secret,”

Keith interrupted. He couldn’t tell her about his work, but he could tell her everything else. “I put on a

Casanova facade for work. That event I held that night was all for work. I’m actually a disciplined

person.” He couldn’t talk about work too much, but he had to keep the misunderstanding to a minimum.

“I can see that.” When she arrived at the club, she saw him standing tall and proud, unlike what the

rumors said about him, so she already guessed he was putting on an act. He was a collected,

disciplined, and responsible man. He was powerful as well. If he’s Apollo’s father, I bet the boy will like

him. He likes strong people.

“My life is fairly disciplined, and I don’t get into scandals, and I’ve never had any girlfriends before.”

Alice didn’t stop him. If he really is Apollo’s father, I won’t stop Apollo from getting reunited with him. If

the boy wants it, of course. That’s why I need to know more about Keith.

“I have a simple family. I’m the only son, and my father has passed on. Only my mother and

grandfather are left. We’re a small family, but we get along well.” Keith was not a romantic at all. He

proposed the first time they met, and he told her all about her family. That was how Keith worked. He

was more of a ‘straight to the point’ person.

Alice thought his family was fine. If he was indeed Apollo’s father, then the boy should be able to get

along with the Rowlands well. He would probably be popular and loved too.
