Serenity grinned as if she found that amusing. She simply walked away.

Zeke felt like his kindness was wasted on her. A surge of anger rose inside him, “What’s the meaning of that, Serenity? I’m taking a great risk trying to help you here!”

“No one asked you to take that risk, Serenity said indifferently, “Besides, aren’t you afraid that your dear Miss Hall will find out about this?”

Just then, a voice suddenly came from around the comer, ‘Find out about what?”

Zeke’s body stiffened. His hand that was tugging at Serenity’s arm let go almost instantly. He turned around and saw Jenny walking over. He said, “Nothing.”

Jenny held Zeke’s arm with a smile. “Zeke, why are you talking to this sort of person? What if Jackson Valor finds out? You know my sister is the only woman Jackson Valor is willing to marry. Even though she’s passed away for three years, he has dated no one else…”
