*Krish's Pov*

"MAAAAA!!! I AM GETTING LATE!!!" I shouted running down the stairs.

"Coming, coming!" Mom replied as she handed me a hastily prepared lunchbox and a water bottle. "Don't forget your backpack, and be careful while driving!"

I grabbed my stuff and gave her a quick side hug.

"Jaldi utha kar" she scolded I searched for my bike's key. "Ab Tera vacation khatam ho gaya hain."

[Wake up early.]

[Your vacation have ended.]

"Parth bhaiya aur Kabir bhaiya abhi bhi so rahe hain?" I asked her, and she nodded.

[Parth bhaiya and Kabir bhaiya are still sleeping?]

Un dono ka sahi hain Parth bhaiya college mein toh late uth te hain aur Kabir bhaiya toh vacation pe hain. Kash meri zindagi inke jesi hoti.

[Their life is good. Parth bhaiya is in college that's why he wakes up late and Kabir bhaiya is on vacation. Why can't my life be like theirs?

As I found the key I rushed out of the home and left for the school.

As I parked my bike, I saw lsha sprinting towards the school gate, her backpack bouncing behind her.

I rushed towards her, my footsteps echoing off the school's wall. "Isha! Hey, wait up!" I called out.

"Oh Hey!" She stopped on her track as I approached her. She is looking anywhere but me.

"Sorry, I wasn't able to talk to you yesterday." We entered the school gate.

"Koi baat nahi." Her eyes still avoided mine.

[It's alright.]

I grinned mischievously. "You are still mad, aren't you?"

"Arey nahi, aesa kuch nahi hain." Her cheeks flushed as I playfully nudged her.

[No, it's nothing like that.]

"Come on, forgive me." I teased, walking alongside her. Isha rolled her eyes, a smile creeping on her face.

"Yeah! I forgive you." She laughed.

"Isha, do you mind if I could get your phone number?" I tried not to sound desperate.

"Yeah, it's alright." She took a pen out from her uniform skirt pocket.

She started searching for a paper to write. I put my palm in front of her. "Here, write on this."

"You sure?" I nodded.

We walked in comfortable silence.

"Krish?" I looked at her. "You know you look like someon-"

She was cut off by the teacher's shout. "Kya kar raho tum dono? School kabka start ho chuka hain." Aditi ma'am, our P.E. ma'am scolded us.

[What are you both doing? School has started already.]

"Arey ma'am! Abhi toh time hain, sare bacche yahi ha-" I looked around me only to see the whole corridor empty. I turned towards ma'am who was glaring at me, then to Isha.

[Ma'am, time is still there, students are sti-]

Wait... she left, leaving me here? Alone? Gaddar.

"Sorry ma'am!" I left from there and ran towards my class.

"Bach gaya!" Feeling a sense of relief as I entered the classroom.

[Thank god.]

"Kaha pe the aap?" A stern voice asked, making me flinch.

[Where were you?]

Main toh gaya. Vikas sir was looking at me, folding his hands in front of his chest.

[I am done.]

"Sir woh thoda late ho gaya, traffic tha." I tried to sound reasonable.

[Sir I got late cause of traffic.]

"Beta, subhe ke saat baje konsa traffic hota hain?" He raised his eyebrow and the class erupted into laughter.

[Dear, at which place traffic is there at 7 am?]

I glanced at Jay, hoping for support but he was too busy laughing.

"Chalo jake bethe, kal se late nhi hone chahiye." I nodded and took my seat beside Jay who was still chuckling.

[Go and sit. Don't be late from tomorrow.]

"Kya has raha hai?" I whispered nudging him.

[Why are you laughing?]

"Traffic? Voh bhi subha ke saat baje? Bhai tu aese konse raste se aata hain?" He continued laughing.

[Traffic? That also at 7 a.m? Bro from which route do you come?]

"Alright, class! Pay attention, I am taking your attendance."

Sir was taking attendance when my attention was on a white pen which had a small rabbit on its cap.

"Tu aesi pen kabse use karna laga?" I asked taking the pen in my pen.

[Since when did you started using such pens?]

"Jay Malhotra!" Vikas Sir called out.

"Present!" He took the pen from my hand. "It's not mine, it belongs to-"

"Kritika" I completed.

"Yess." He leaned back on the chair.

"Tu uski cheeze kyu churata hain?" I leaned on the desk and looked at him.

[You steal her things?]

"Kitni baar bolu, it's fun teasing her." He shrugged.

[How many times should I say, it's fun teasing her.]

"Aesa bolna tujhe uska attention accha lagta hain." I raised my eyebrow.

[Just say that you like her attention.]

"Aesa hum bol sakhte hain aur aap aage dekhiye." His eyes single me to look forward.

[We can say that and you see ahead.]

I turned straight, only to be met with a piercing gaze that seemed to bore into my soul. Anger and frustration filled those eyes.

"S-sir." I shuttered.

"Ek toh aap late aate ho fir jab pucha ki late kyu aaye tab jutha bahana dete ho aur abhi jab main attendance le raha hu tab aap ko baatein karni hain." I stayed silent; if I spoke anything, then I was dead.

[First you came late then when I asked why you were late, you gave me an excuse that was a lie. And now when I am taking attendance, you want to talk.]

"Main aapka naam kabse chillaye ja raha hu, Krishna Mehta, Krishna Mehta. Par bhai sabh toh baatein karne mein busy hain." I looked down then at Jay whose head was also down. "Mr. Traffic, if you one more time misbehave toh mujhse bura koi nahi hoga."

[I am continuously calling your name, Krishna Mehta, Krishna Mehta. But no, mister is busy in talking.]

[Mr. Traffic, if you one more time misbehave then no one will be worst than me.]

He walked towards his place. "Aur main aapka absent laga raha hu kyuki aap toh sirf physically present hain aur mentally absent."

[And I am marking you as absent since you are physically present but not mentally.]

"Attendance toh school aane ki lag ti hain na, school aaya toh hu toh present lagao na." I whispered but seems like it came out loudly as the whole started to laugh.

[Present is marked when a student comes to school then I am present in school so mark me as present.]

"Aapne kuch kaha, Mr.Traffic?" I shake my head in denial. Thank god, suna nahi.

[Did you said anything, Mr. Traffic?]

"Chalo sab apna homework nikalo." He demanded.

[Everyone take out your homework.]

What? Homework? Konsa homework? Kal toh pehla din tha aur pehle din kon homework deta hain.

[What? Homework? What Homework? Yesterday was the first day and we already got the Homework.]

I looked at Jay, who was busy taking out his book from the bag. I nudged him. "Oye! Konse homework ki baat ki ja rahi hain?"

[Hey! Which Homework is he talking about?]

"Kal sir ne ek topic pe research karne ke liye diya aur uspe 2 page likhne the." He looked at me.

[Yesterday he asked us to research on a topic and told us to write 2 pages about it.]

"Yeh diya kab tha?" From I remember, no homework was given yesterday.

[When was this given?]

"Jab tu class ke bahar tha, tujhe Rohit sir ne football ke liye bulaya tha."

[When you were outside the class. Rohit called you for football.]

"Tune complete kiya hain?" He nodded.

[Did you completed?]

"Jin logo ka bhi homework baki hain voh class ke bahar chale jaye." Vikas Sir said while writing on the blackboard.

[Whoever has not done the Homework, get out of the class.]

I stood up taking Jay's hand, making him stand too. "Chal sath mein bahar."

[Let's go out together.]

"Par mera kaam complete hain." He tried to release his hand as I dragged him out with me.

[But my work is completed.]

"Mr. Traffic? Aapka work baki hain?" He turned towards us. "Not surprised. Jay? Tum bhi?"

[Mr.Traffic? Your work is pending?]

[Not surprised. Jay? You too?]

"Jay tera work toh complete hain na!" A girl named Jiya spoke in between,.she took Jay's book from the desk and handed it to Vikas, sir.

[Jay isn't your work complete.]

"Jay tumhara work toh complete hain, tum kyu bahar ja rahe ho?" His gaze shifted to me. "Accha! Mr. Traffic tum akele bahar jao Jay ko idhar rehne do."

[Jay your work is done then why are you going out?]

[Ohh! Mr. Traffic you go out alone, Jay you stay here.]

"Aur tumhara kya bahana hain homework na karne ka?"

[And what's your excuse for not doing Homework?]

"Sir jab aapne homework diya tha tab main class se bahar tha, mujhe Rohit sir be bulaya tha." I gave him the genuine reason.

[Sir when you gave the homework, I was out of the class. Rohit sir called me.]

"Accha? Toh tum kisi aur se puch nahi sakhte the?" I looked at Jay, and he mouthed me, "I messaged you, but you left it unseen."

[Really? You didn't even bother to ask someone else?]

"Chalo class ke bahar niklo aur kaan pakad kar khade raho." I with my other classmates who didn't do the homework, walked out of the class.

[Come on get out of the class and hold your ears.]

We all were standing outside; I kept my head low as other teachers passed by, shaking their heads in disappointment.

My eye caught the principal sir walking towards me. I turned towards the wall, hoping he would not notice me.

But I guess I was wrong.

"Mr. Mehta, aap ke bahar kya kar rahe yeh?" I turned towards him.

[Mr. Mehta, what are you doing outside?]

"Good morning sir, voh punishment milli hain." I kept my head down.

[Good morning sir, I have got the punishment.]

"Dusre din pe hi? Kyu kya kiya aapne?" His voice stern.

[On the second day of school? What have you done?]

"Sir, hume homework diya tha aur voh mera baki hain."

[Sir, my homework is incomplete.]

"I am disappointed in you, Krishna. Aap humare school ke bright bachho mein se ek ho aur aap ne homework nahi kiya." He scolded.

[I'm disappointed in you, Krishna. You are one of the bright student of our school and you didn't do your work.]

"I am sorry, sir. Kal main Rohit sir ke sath tha jab hume homework diya tha toh mujhe pata nahi tha."

[I am sorry, sir. Yesterday I was with Rohit sir when homework was given.]

"Aap ke koi dost nahi hain? Kaha hain aapka jigri dost, Jay?" I pressed my lips in a single line.

[You don't have friends? Where is your best friend, Jay?]

"Voh uska message aaya par maine dekha nahi tha." I said feeling embarrassed.

[He did messaged me but I didn't saw it.]

"Mr. Mehta, aapko pata hain ki main aapse Kitna disappoint hu ki aapne commerce liya jab aap science lene ke layak ho." I am tired of hearing the same thing again and again.

[Mr. Mehta, do you know how disappointed I am with you that you took commerce when you are capable for science?]

"Is punishment ki wagah se aapki image kharab ho sakhti hain sare teachers ke samne, yeh aap jante ho na?" I nodded to him. "Hope agli baar se aesa na ho."

[You do know that your image can be ruined after this punishment?]

[I hope from next time you won't do such thing.]

He looked at other students, then shook his head disappointed and left muttering something.

Whatever he said is true, I am a bright student, and most teachers appreciate my enthusiasm and dedication. But, inexplicably, Vikram Sir has always been an exception. No matter how hard I try, he seems to take pleasure in singling me out, nitpicking every minor infraction. I don't know what I have done to him that he holds this grudge against me and always picks on him. Every time I get punished, it's just cause of him.

"Chal na school ghum me aate hain." Praveen said to Ajay.

[Let's go and roam around the school.]

"Nahi! Chup chap idhar khada reh, agar koi teacher ne pakad liya nah toh hum toh gaye." Ajay said to him.

[No! Stay here quietly. If any teacher saw us then we are done.]

"Tu Kitna darta hain." Ajay scoff at Praveen's response. "Chhor kisi aur ke sath jaunga."

[You are so coward.]

[Leave it, I will go with someone else.]

He asked other students who denied it to him.

"Krish, tu aaega?" Before I could respond he said. "Nahi, chhor. Tu topper hain teri image tujhe banani hain, abhi principal sir daat ke gaye tujhe."

[Krish, will you come?]

[No, nevermind. You are topper you need to maintain your image. Just now only principal scolded you.]

I glared at him.

Praveen looked here and there, then silently left from there.

"Yeh pakka pitega," Ajay said, looking at Praveen's walking figure.

[He is dead.]

That's when Vikas sir came out of the classroom. "Toh baccha party, kya haal he class ke bahar."

[So students, how are you doing outside?]

"Kuch nahi, maze se khade the jab tak aap aaye." Someone whispered, but it was not audible to him.

[Nothing. We were standing peacefully then you arrived.]

"Yeh tum mein se ek gayab hain." He said counting students. "Kon hain voh Mahan?"

[Someone is missing from you all.]

[Who is that great person?]

"Praveen." Everyone said in unison.

"Tum sab ander chalo, usko aane do main usko dekhta hu." Everyone moved inside. I took my usual seat.

[You all go inside, let him come.]

He continued teaching.

______________________________

Class is about in 1 minute when Praveen entered the class. "May I come in sir?"

"Kaha the aap janab?" Vikas sir stopped his explanation.

[Your highness, where were you?]

"Umm..." Praveen thought for a moment. "...Washroom"

"Yeh bhi soch na padhta hain ki aap washroom mein the?" Sir raised his eyebrow. "Aur washroom mein pure 15 minutes? Huh?

[You need to think that you were in washroom?]

[And what were you doing inside for 15 minutes?]

"Aap mujhse puch ke gaye the?" Praveen shakes his head in a no.

[You took my permission?]

"Aesa aap kya kar rahe the waha?' Hearing this our whole class started laughing.

[What were you doing inside?]

*Bell ringsss*

"Chaliye mere sath," Sir ordered him, and Praveen nodded.

[Come with me.]

"Pehle hi bola tha, yeh gaya." Ajay said to his friends, laughing.

[I told you he's dead.]
