Chapter 103

Can and Sanem got home that night, and went to talk to his father and Annem first to let them know what's going on.

AZIZ : I can't believe it!! that woman is a devil woman!! does she have no heart, thank god You and Emre didn't take after her." Aziz was very irritated and emotional

MIRIBAN: Aziz, please Calm down, she's not worth it.

Can what are going to do?"

CAN: "it looks like we're going to surprise her, we're all going, I'm taking the kids and Emre is taking his kids. And of course Ela and Asli.  Ela needs to see her mother."

AZIZ: "I don't even want to see Huma . You don't mind if I don't come?"

SANEM: "not at all, stay home and relax, everything will turn out as it should." They agreed, now time to talk to the kids and Ela.

Can and Sanem gathered their kids and told them about their grandmother. The kids were surprised. and felt bad for uncle Emre and their father.

CAN: "don't feel bad, grandfather Aziz was a great father, and Miriban was a great mother, she was there for everything, graduations, birthdays, and all are games, anything we needed she was there."

NIHAT: "but dad how can anyone be so mean to their children, I don't understand."

CAN: "I don't know, maybe she has psychological problems, maybe her upbringing, nobody really knows about her childhood, even grandfather Aziz doesn't know much."

EMRE: "all we know is that she grew up in a neighborhood like your mother's, but maybe it was worse, but whatever her past, it doesn't matter, we had dad and Miriban. We were lucky."

SANEM: "Miriban was a great mother, and a great person. She took me in and treated me like a daughter. She's a good person through and through."

ZARA: "I guess you don't have to be blood to be a parent and a good parent."

DENIZ: "I'm sorry dad and uncle Emre that you had deal with someone like that."

CAN: "what's done is done. Ela, this is where you come in, your mother works for Huma."Ela of course is very surprised.

ELA: "how did you find her."

SANEM: "Metin has the best detectives working for him"

CAN: it seems Huma took your mother's cell away, and threatened her that she wouldn't pay her if she called you or came to visit. I'm sorry Ela, but from what we understand she treats her like a slave, and I believe it because our mother is a very nasty person,"

Ela just sat there like she was in Shock. Nihat puts his arms around her.

NIHAT: "Ela what are you thinking are you okay?"

She had tears in her eyes,

ELA: "here I thought she didn't want me anymore, or maybe met someone  and started a new life without me."

SANEM: "I'm sorry Ela, but at least you know that wasn't the case she loves you and tomorrow we are all going to Izmir, a family trip!"

EMRE: "yes, we're going to see good old mom!"

CAN: "Ela, no matter what happens tomorrow, your mother is coming home with us. Everything will be okay." She nodded and smiled and thanked Can and Emre.

Can and Emre tried to get some sleep that night but nothing. They lit a fire and sat outside. Saying nothing to each other just thinking. Leyla and Sanem noticed they weren't in bed. They found them sitting outside so they went and sat with them.

SANEM: "Can, Emre are you okay?"Can  takes her hand and kisses it.

CAN: I'm ok, I just don't understand, why she's like that, how many years does she have left, and she's still miserable and mean to people."

EMRE: "selfish, only worries about herself, nobody else matters."

SANEM: "Can, I'm thinking she definitely has to have psychological problems, there is definitely something wrong with her."

LEYLA: "I believe so too, it's not normal behavior."

CAN: well whatever the case, we will go there and bring home Ela's mother, she can work for us."

EMRE: "yes, we will find something for her, either in the agency or here on the farm."

They decided to go back to bed and try to get some sleep. But no luck.

Even Ela and Asli were up all night, they were sitting by the pool all night.

ASLI: "Ela, it's going to be okay, the Divits will bring your mother home."

ELA: "I know, I just feel so bad for her, working so hard. And having a nasty person for her boss."

ASLI: "look the sun is coming up, let's go take our showers and get ready to go. Let's make breakfast for everybody, surprise them."

ELA: "sounds good, we owe these people a lot, they have been so good to us, I would do anything for them."

ASLI: "me too sister, come let's go."

The families got up and saw a beautiful breakfast table set up outside for everyone to enjoy.

When Nihat and Aziz saw Ela and Asli by the table smiling, they went over to them hugged them tight and kissed them.

AZIZ: "you two did this.?"

ASLI: "we did, it's kind of a thank you."

ElA: "it's no where near to what you all deserve, but it's a start." Everyone went and hugged the girls and thanked them. And Sat down to eat.

MIRIBAN: "okay, Mevcabi and I will clean up, you all get going and get this day over with."

CAN: "okay, everyone Annem is right, let's get going, and get this over with."

EMRE: "Huma, is in for a big surprise."

Everyone got to the hotel where they were going to spend the night dropped off their stuff and headed to Huma's .  They pull up to the front of the house, it's a very nice house, looks like it's a huge property with beautiful landscape.

CAN: well, my children and nieces and nephews are you ready to meet your grandmother?"

They all yelled out, "we are!" They all walked up to the door and rang the door bell. A middle aged man answered the door.

BUTLER: "hello may I help you?"

EMRE: "yes, you can, we're here to see our mother Huma!" The butler was shocked, he knew that she had kids but never met them."

BUTLER: "let me tell Mrs. Huma that you are here."

CAN: "tell her, her grandchildren are also here.

The butler let them into the house into a grand entrance. Everyone was looking around it was beautiful.

SANEM: "wow Can, this is very grand."

CAN: "I guess my mother got what she always wanted, money and high society."

BUTLER: "Mrs Huma it seems that you have visitors "

HUMA: "who is it , and where is Hande!! I need her to help me go out to the garden."

BUTLER: "you sent her to go get your medication, she will be back soon."

HUMA: "who is here?"

The butler swallowed hard. "Your children and their grandchildren." Huma was in shock, she never expected to see them again. "Did they say What they wanted?"

"No mam"

HUMA: "okay, send them in."

Huma sat in the living area waiting for them, she was very nervous. What could they possibly want from me.?

The door opens and in walk Can, Sanem, Emre and Leyla, with all of her grandchildren. Ela And Asli waited in the foyer.   Huma looks up at them, with a straight face, but her eyes told a different story, like she was getting emotional. The granddaughters and Sanem and Leyla noticed her. Can and Emre just want to get out, and get this over with. The women are looking around and they see pictures, of Can, Emre, and pictures of the kids and families together.

LEYLA: "Sanem, did you see all these pictures of all of us."

SANEM: "yes, for someone who doesn't want family around she sure does keep A lot of pictures of them."

LEYLA: "she must of had us followed, how else would she get these pictures."

SANEM: "I agree."

HUMA: "well , why are you here, it can't be that you missed me."

CAN: "actually we came for someone, and we wanted to show you what you missed out on all these years.

EMRE: "these are your grandchildren." Huma had tears in her eyes , she was softening, even Emre and Can noticed. They couldn't believe it that she was showing emotion." All the granddaughters noticed and they went over to speak to her and gave her a little hug. Huma was overwhelmed, tears started rolling down her cheeks, then the boys went over, they did the same thing, gave her a hug."

The two couples were in shock they never expected this reaction. Sanem and Leyla decided to walk over to her also. They did the same thing, they hugged her.  Huma is crying trying to compose herself.

HUMA: "what are you doing here, and why are you being so nice to me."

SANEM: "because your reaction to us shows us, that you have regrets, and that you truly do feel something for your children and grandchildren. Emre and Can just stood there. They were in shock, they couldn't believe how emotional Huma is."

HUMA: "let me get my self together, I will be right back."

They noticed she was using a walker and she was dragging her leg slightly.

ZARA: "baba , it's looks like she might have had a mild stroke, her mouth was a little crooked and did you see her leg she was slightly dragging it. And one more thing I noticed, your mother has been hiding behind this mask all these years, baba, from what I've learned in school in my psychology classes, this woman had a traumatic childhood, I can feel it, and I can see it in how she's trying to control her emotions."

Can looks at his daughter and smiles, and kisses her on her forehead. "you always did analyze everything , that's why you will be a very good, the best psychologist." She smiles and hugs her father. In the meantime Huma comes back in and sits in her chair and stares at her grandchildren and has a soft smile on her face." She looks at Can and Emre and they see the softer side of Huma, something they thought didn't exist."

SANEM: "Huma, are you ready to make amends with your children, are you ready to tell us the reason you were so distant and non emotional with your own children." The grandchildren sat around Huma hoping that their affection towards her will let her open up.

Zara took her hand and rubbed it.

ZARA: "grandmother? (Huma's eyes filled with tears) she nodded yes."

HUMA: "Can, Emre, please sit, it's Time you knew my story. I'm getting old and not healthy it's time for the truth."

Can and Emre sat in the chairs across from her and just stared at her they didn't know what to expect.

HUMA: " well let me start to say that I wasn't always bitter, especially as a child. I used to love life until I was 14 years old. I was sexually molested in my neighborhood a neighborhood just like yours

Sanem and Leyla maybe even worse, people in the neighborhood found out what happened to me, the gossip of course wasn't the truth that I was forced , the gossip was that I came looking for it, I wanted to sleep with this man. As you know when a girl is gossiped like that it's brutal your shunned from the neighborhood, even my parents were disgusted, they said I shamed them. They kicked me out ( Huma is crying Sanem and Leyla are holding her hand, and Can and Emre have tears in their eyes.) after that I tried to make a living for myself, working odd jobs here and there, trying to find a place to sleep and eat. Sometimes on park benches. As I got the older every relationship I was in was bad. Again abused sexually and physically, and even mentally. (Pauses and swallows hard) I got a job in a bank, made decent money, got myself an apartment. But I had already hardened my self nothing and no one could break me or use me anymore, I was done with everyone, it felt like my heart was turned to stone. And then I met Aziz, I knew deep down I loved him but I couldn't show it, I guess I didn't even feel worthy of being married to a man like Aziz, and I got him in the worst way, poor Miriban is the one that suffered. And then came you boys, Can when I got pregnant with you, I thought maybe things will change, and the same with Emre, I thought maybe I could be a good mother maybe a good wife, I know deep down I loved you both, but I didn't know how to show it. I didn't want to ruin your life so I left. I'm so sorry . My heart was like stone, I couldn't show how I felt" she starts crying uncontrollably, I'm so sorry for everything. Please forgive me, she couldn't stop crying. All the grandchildren went over to hug her, they felt bad for her. Sanem and Leyla were hugging Can and Emre, they were also crying.

Can and Emre went a kneeled in front of their mother each took her hand. And kissed it.

CAN: "well it looks to us with all these pictures here, you definitely loved us and wanted to know your family." She smiles and kisses both boys hands.

They sat there talking for a little while longer.

HUMA: "so I know you didn't come to hear my story, but I have to say it feels good to tell it, I feel like a weight has been lifted off of me. Sanem, Leyla I am truly sorry for how I treated you both. I guess I wasn't happy with my neighborhood, and I took it out on you both, because you were from a neighborhood like mine."

LEYLA: "it's all forgotten, now you have to get to know your grandchildren and get to know your sons again."

HUMA: "I would love that, if they allow it." All the kids said yes, Emre and Can smiled

CAN: "we both are willing to work on our relationship with you." Huma was crying.

HUMA: thank you both. For giving me a chance. And I think I need to talk to your father and Miriban, I owe them an apology. I'm hoping they can forgive me, I wasn't that nice."

CAN: "when we came here we came to find someone, we didn't think we would hear all this, but we're glad we did."

HUMA: "who are you looking for?" Can opened the door so Ela and Asli could come in. Nihat and Aziz went over and took them by the hand and introduced them to Huma.

NIHAT: these are our girlfriends, Ela and Asli."

AZIZ: "Ela is Hande's daughter, she's worried about her and misses her mother."

NIHAT: "it seems that your anger was extended to Hande also, you deprived her of her daughter and Niece." Huma had tears in her eyes.

HUMA: "I'm sorry, again I was always thinking of my self, my selfish heart." Both girls smiled and took her hand, they heard everything that was said, they were listening at the door.

ELA:  "can you tell me where my mother is?"

The door to the living area opens.

HANDE: "I'm here my sweet daughter" Ela turns and sees her mother and runs to her, they both start crying and kept hugging each other. I'm sorry I couldn't contact you . But I couldn't"

And she looks at Huma.  " yes, Ela, that too was all me, I'm sorry, please forgive me. I should have never kept your mother from you."

ELA: "as long as I can have her back you're forgiven."

Huma smiled "of course child, but first allow me to find someone to take care of me, and then she can come home." They agreed.

EMRE: "where is your husband?"

HUMA: "he passed away several months ago, I'm by myself now."

SANEM: " we're so sorry to hear that."

HUMA : "it's ok, I'm used to it." They talked for a little while longer and decided that the family would come back tomorrow again, so they can talk again.

Back at the hotel Can and Sanem are lying in bed, holding each other.

SANEM: "it was a very emotional day to say the least."

CAN : "it was my love, ( holding her tightly and kissing her neck) I feel drained."

SANEM: "let's get some sleep my love, we will talk in the morning. Good night my prince."

CAN : " good night my princess."
