Twenty-three - Long Lost Love

The Witch And His Wolf // Kai Parker

Long Lost Love

It was about three months later. Abbie and the whole family were having dinner. Kai and Abbie sat next to each other. She was looking in a paper for property in New York. "Why New York?" he asked after peaking at the paper. "I've always wanted to live in New York. One of the few states I haven't lived in yet," she said. "So, Abbie, finally getting your own place?" Joshua, Kai's father, said with a snarky undertone. Abbie nodded. "No, don't go. I will miss you," Sarah, Kai's 11-year-old sister who Abbie played with at times, begged. "She can't stay here forever," Jo told the girl. She crossed her arms over each other and sulked. "Aren't the apartments in New York expensive? Where would you get the money?" Mary, the mother, questioned Abbie. Abbie was planning on compelling the apartment owners to let her live there for free, but she couldn't tell them that. If they found out she was a vampire they surely would forbid Kai from seeing her and throw her onto the streets. At least, she imagined it would happen like that.

"My mom left me enough money to be able to rent an apartment. Then, I will get a job to be able to continue paying for my apartment," she lied. Mary looked pleased, "I hope you will find a nice apartment then." After they finished eating dinner the twins began getting fussy. Mary stood up and brought them back to their crib upstairs. "Come," Abbie said and led Kai outside. They sat on the steps in front of the house. "These last 6 months living with you have been great. That is why I want to ask you if you want to move with me to New York," Abbie said and stared at the sunset. Kai looked at Abbie, "I would love to, but I can't." Abbie looked at Kai confused, "Why?" "I have family matters to attend to. When that's done, I will move in with you." Abbie knew he had secrets that he didn't want to talk about. She wished he shared them, but maybe one day he would. "It's okay. I can wait forever for you and I will."

After that night things moved fast. Abbie moved out into a big luxury apartment. She filled it with beautiful furniture. It almost felt like a dream because without her being able to compel people she would never be able to afford it. Before she left she made Kai promise, again, to call and visit her. They talked on the phone every week. Sometimes one had big news and other times they just talked about meaningless things. He visited whenever he had time, which was about once in the two months. Sometimes they would go on dates in New York or party the whole night. Other times when he would visit for a day or two they would have sex the whole time. Abbie loved his company and Kai loved being away from his family.

A year later, in 1992, Kai's mother died of heart failure. Abbie was quite broken up about her death since Mary had been very kind to her. She flew back to Portland for the funeral. It reminded her a lot of her own mother's death. Kai didn't seem to care about it all. He was more annoyed that he had to go to the funeral. She got mad at Kai because of that. "She was your own mother for god's sake!" she yelled at him when they were the only ones at the house. He had a deadpan stare, "So?" She shook her head and left the house to go for a walk. She walked through the forest where most of her misery and life-changing moments happened. A bit later she found the place Carrie turned her. She laid on the dirt and looked up to the sky. It was night and the moon shined brightly on her face.

A while later, she heard leaves crack and immediately knew it was Kai. "What are you doing here?" she asked. "You were gone for a while, and I was wondering what you were doing," he said. Abbie kept looking at the moon, "As if you care about what I am doing." He didn't answer and laid next to her on the dirt. He turned his head to her. "I care," he said, and also began looking at the sky. "This is where I died," she mentioned. Kai nodded, "I know." They laid there for a while before they decided to go back.

At the house, his father and the siblings were sitting and eating dinner. "Where were you two?" Jo asked. "None of your business," Kai answered back. "Don't talk to your sister like that," Joshua said angrily. Kai and Abbie both sat down. The whole dinner was silent, no one had anything to say. After they were done Joshua began doing the dishes and Abbie offered to help. When they were together in the kitchen he grabbed a flower out of his pocket and held it to her skin. It began burning like hell, and she dropped a plate she was holding. "Ahh what the fuck!" she yelled. "Just like I thought. You're a disgusting bloodsucker." Abbie was shocked, "Huh? What was that?"

"Vervain. It only hurts vampires," he spoke in disgust. "How... how do you know?" Before he could answer Kai and Jo came into the kitchen. "What is going on?" Jo asked as she looked down to the floor where the pieces of a former plate laid. "Get out and stay away from my children," he growled at Abbie. "Dad, what is going on?" Jo was stunned at why her father would say that. Then, she realized. He knew. "You. Of course, you knew and let a vampire into this house, monster," he snarked to Kai. "Don't fucking touch her," Kai growled. The two men looked as if they were ready to fight to the death. "You're never going to see her again. I will make sure of it," Joshua uttered. "It's okay. I'll leave," she said and left the house. Kai couldn't visit again, but that didn't stop them from calling each other.

When she was back in the city she went partying more than she usually did. One night after partying the whole night she got hungry. So, she compelled a victim and was planning to drink from him behind the club, but there she saw another woman feeding on a victim. They immediately hit it off and a friendship began. The woman's name was Alice. She introduced her to more vampires and two years later, in 1994, they all sat together in Alice's old vintage mansion. Abbie was telling them about her life and how she turned. In which, she also told how she was in love with a witch but left out that they hadn't seen each other in a while. "A witch?" Archer, a male vampire, asked surprised.  "Yes. What so strange about it?" she asked. Alice laughed and dug her teeth in a girl's neck. She had many so-called blood slaves around her house. Abbie found that quite off-putting. As much as she loved having other vampires as friends, they were brutal and had no shred of humanity in them. Weirdly, that reminded her of Kai. "Witches hate vampires," Alice told her as blood dripped off her lips. "Not all, my love. There are enough out there that love us creatures of the night," Rehan, the oldest vampire in the room and Alice's lover, corrected her.

"You should invite him over one time. So, we can also get that beautiful ring around your finger," Archer said and pointed to Abbie's daylight ring. She never realized how valuable it was until she met other vampires. Only Rehan had a daylight ring, but the witch that created it died hundreds of years ago. So, Alice, Archer, and Jéan, the other vampire, couldn't get a ring. Alice nodded, "Such witches are hard to find." Abbie wanted to see Kai again and hoped that maybe he could come over, so she agreed, "Next time he's here I will bring him over to create you the rings." Alice had a big smile on her face, "Archer, get Jéan and tell her the good news." Archer stood up and vamped speeded away.

Once at home, she tried to call Kai, but he didn't pick up. She assumed he was busy and waited for his call, yet he never called back. A month passed by and Abbie began worrying about him. He never waited this long to call her back. One day, she got a newspaper in her mail. Nothing unusual, she always got a newspaper. It was until she began reading that newspaper that she realized something horrible happened. "Family massacred in Portland," she in disbelieved read the title. Jo and the other children's pictures were on the paper. Abbie's heart sank. She immediately grabbed her stuff and left to go to Portland.

At Kai's house, there were a bunch of teddy bears and flowers in front of it. Tears began to form in her eyes. "He really did it, didn't he?" she whispered to herself. She walked to the door of the house and knocked on it, but no one answered. Abbie began walking away and noticed a woman walking past. She walked up to the woman. "Hello, do you know what happened here?" she asked and pointed to the house. The woman nodded, "Supposedly their son killed four of his siblings and then disappeared. Poor children." Abbie lifted her eyebrow, "Disappeared? Where did he disappear to?" The woman rose her shoulder, "I don't know. Although, I did overhear people say he killed himself somewhere." Abbie disagreed, he would never kill himself. "Thank you," she said, and the woman walked away.

She walked back to the house and knocked again. She knew someone was home because she could hear their heartbeat. "Could you please open up? I just want answers!" she desperately yelled. A few seconds later, Joshua opened the door. "What do you want?" Abbie sighed, "Could please tell me where Kai is or what happened to him?" He had an angry look on his face once she mentioned Kai's name. "He's rotting away as he should. Now never come back. I don't want to see your face again, undead leech," he snapped. Abbie's eyes widened, "Wait. What do you mean rotting away?" He didn't respond and slammed the door shut. She kicked the ground in frustration. Was Kai even still alive?

--*-*-*- Editor's note -*-*-*--

Thank you for reading the last chapter, chapter twenty-three! I am such a slow writer, whenever I see these stories with like 70 chapters I'm just asking myself how the fuck do they do that!

I also can't believe I actually finished this book! The only other time I finished a book was when I was 9. It was like 10 pages about a talking bear and boy going on vacation. Writing on this book just is so much easier than a million books I have tried to write before. I might have mentioned this before, but I have so many ideas for books two and three. I just simply love this story! Thank you so so so much for reading!!! Love you all!!! :)

I must admit I'm terrified of actually releasing this since I worked so long on this. So, I hope you like it.

Read! Whenever I'm in bed and about to fall asleep I get good ideas and I always write them down. So, this time I got a good idea again, and it was less about the story, but something fun we could do. In this chapter and only this chapter, I'm going to respond to all comments as the characters.

You can ask them anything and they will respond! For example, a comment asks, "How are you, Abbie." I would respond, "Good, thank you! -Abbie." But, remember the character only know things that have happened so far in this chapter. So, you can't ask them things about the future.
