Chapter 22

Twenty-two - Home

The Witch And His Wolf // Kai Parker

Home

A month after her mother's announcement Abbie and her mother were on their way to the new house. "Aren't you excited about the house? It looked beautiful in the picture!" her mother excitingly told her while driving. She was doing better and looked less ill, but Abbie stayed because she was still worried. When she told Kai she was moving away, he didn't seem too bothered about it. Abbie made Kai promise to call her often, and she said she would eventually visit him. The last thing he said to her before she got in the car, was that someday he would buy her a big house where they would forever live together.

"How long before we are there?" Abbie asked and stared out of the window. They had been on a road trip across the country because her mother was terrified of planes. "We're already in Vermont, so we're almost there honey," she said and smiled at her daughter. Abbie didn't really understand why her mother wanted to live in a small town in Vermont. It was pretty, sure, but also incredibly boring. She wasn't even sure if they had a blood bank for her blood supply. Otherwise, she was going to need to feed off the locals.

Her mother pulled up to a typical American white picket fence house. "What do you think?" her mother asked and waited for her daughter's response. "It's a nice place," she said and they both got out of the car. Abbie, without a problem, grabbed multiple boxes out of the car. "Isn't that too heavy?" her mother asked unsurely. Abbie shook her head and walked to the front door before coming to a stop. "Can I come in?" She turned to her mother, who had a confused look on her face, "Of course, honey. Why wouldn't you?" Abbie ignored her question and entered the house. She placed the boxes inside and a few minutes later all the other boxes were inside too. She looked around the house. It was a nice place. Abbie knew she wasn't going to stay long here. She wanted to move out the second she knew her mother was totally okay. Hopefully, her mother wanted to stay here and live out her old days.

Four months later in 1991, Abbie stood patiently waiting before the phone. She was waiting until Kai would call her. Her mother just before bed saw her daughter and said, "he must be important to you." Abbie smiled, "He really is." She hugged her mother before her mother left. Abbie about her because she was doing worse and was still refusing to go to the hospital. She was fearing the worst. She was at a point where she wanted to forcefully drag her mother to the hospital. Just as she was leaving the phone rang and Abbie quickly picked up the phone. "Kai?" she asked. "Hello, Abbie. How are you?" She had missed his voice so much since he hadn't called her in a month. "I'm doing good." Abbie sighed, "Why didn't you call for a month?" There was a long pause on the other line, "I have been busy with life." They talked all night and caught each other up on what they have been doing.

The next day her mother stayed all morning in bed. Abbie didn't think much of it and let her mother sleep. In the meantime, she cleaned the house using her vamped speed. Then, she went out to get some blood, since she was all out. In the midday, Abbie decided to wake her mother up and entered her room. The room was cold and had a foul smell. She walked to her mother and noticed she had blood under her nose. She shook her, but her mother didn't respond. Abbie immediately knew something was up and after listening to her mother's heartbeat her worst nightmare came true.

Abbie sat crying over her lifeless body for hours before she called the paramedics. After they arrived they declared her dead. A little while later they put her body in a body bag and lifted her to the car. Abbie was in pure shock. She walked over to the phone and called Kai. While the phone kept ringing she put her back against the wall and let herself fall. The phone kept ringing since no one was picking up. Abbie hung up the phone and began crying on the floor. Her heart had broken into a million pieces.

Two weeks later Abbie stood in the middle of the living room. The whole house was empty and hollow. She had sold all the furniture and the house was going to be sold too in two days. Her funeral was tomorrow. She didn't know what to do after that, but she knew she couldn't stay here. Abbie had been struggling against turning her button, even though she really wanted to do that. She couldn't because she knew no one could help her this time.

The next morning she put on a black dress, black heels and curled her hair. She went to the graveyard. No one was there, because she hadn't invited anyone. She just couldn't get herself to pick up the phone and tell someone her mother was really dead. The priest began praying, "Receive the Lord's blessing. The Lord bless you and watch over you. The Lord make his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you. The Lord look kindly on you and give you peace." Her mother wasn't really religious, but the local priest offered to do the burial. She just let him. "In the Name of the Father, and the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen," he prayed.

Another man came up and began lowering the coffin into the grave. Tears rolled off her cheeks as the man began burying the body. A few minutes later when the body was buried she stood over her grave. "Debra Warren in memory of a loving mother, 1949-1991," Abbie whispered as she read her gravestone. "I'm sorry that I'll never be with you." She looked at her mother's grave one more time and left. She didn't go back to the house, there was nothing there for her. Abbie looked up to the sky and noticed it was already getting dark.

She vamped speeded to a small lone road and was cut off guard by a car. They hit her, but she easily got back up. The two passengers worriedly ran over to her. "Are you okay?" one of them asked in a panicking tone. Abbie turned her head towards them and revealed her fangs. She attacked them and drained them both of all their blood. She left the two bodies dead on the road and stole the car. Abbie knew exactly where she was going to go. She drove for three days straight and only stopped for gas. Until she finally entered Portland and drove up to Kai's house. It was dark outside because it was the evening, and it had started raining, so she was completely soaked in water. She knocked on the door and Kai's father opened it. He must have been so confused seeing a girl who was wearing funeral attire drenched in water at his front door.

"Hi, I'm Abbie. I'm Kai's girlfriend Could I come in? It's pouring outside!" she said. He reluctantly agreed and let her inside, "Alright, come in." They walked to the living room and Abbie noticed the whole family, except for Kai and Jo, sitting before the TV watching a movie. Kai's mother was carrying two newborns on either arm. His father walked to the staircase and yelled, "Kai, come down!" The two babies cooed cutely. "They're adorable. I didn't know you had children again," she said to the mother. "I had them two months ago. They're twins." She signed her head towards the left one and said, "This is Olivia." She then signed her head towards the right one, "And that is Lucas." Abbie smiled and waved to the babies, "Hi Lucas and Olivia."

A second later, Kai walked down the stairs and was surprised to see Abbie. "What going on?" She looked towards the family and saw them all staring at her, "Could I speak privately with you?" Kai nodded. He walked to the kitchen and Abbie followed. "So, what are you doing here?" he immediately asked. "My, uh, my mom died a few weeks ago. I... I sold the house and now I have nowhere to go," she explained with tears in her eyes. He had a puzzled look and was unsure how to respond, "You can stay here. I'll just ask my parents if it's okay." Abbie nodded and he left the kitchen.

Kai entered the living room and immediately said, "Mom, dad, Abbie is going to stay here for a while." His father had a skeptical look on his face, "Why?" Abbie walked out of the kitchen and signaled to Kai that she would say it. "My mother recently died. I sold the house she lived in because I couldn't bear staying there, but now I have nowhere to go." The older children began whispering to each other while the younger ones kept watching the TV. Kai's mother had a sympathetic look on her face, "Poor girl, you can stay here as long as you want. Come I'll show you the guest room." She laid the twins in a bassinet and walked upstairs with Abbie.

"It has clean bedding, so you can sleep here. Do you have clothes with you?" she asked. Abbie shook her head. "That's okay, here is a pajama from Jo. I think that will fit you too." Abbie heard a car park up to the house and the front door open, it was Jo. "Whose car is parked by our house?" She heard Jo ask. Abbie and the mother walked downstairs. Jo saw Abbie and they had a long stare. "Abbie? What are you doing here?" she asked. "My mother died," Abbie said heartbroken. Jo ran up to Abbie and hugged her.

Three months later, it was Halloween. Kai and Abbie were going to go to a Halloween party in a club. Living together was going well and even strengthened their relationship. She also became better friends with Jo and being surrounded by people just made her feel better. Sometimes it was difficult since so many people lived in the house. It was an orchestra of content screaming, crying, and laughing from the little children. Living with Kai also made her see how awful his parents were against him. "What do you think?" Kai asked Abbie after walking into her room. He was wearing a vampire costume that was matching Abbie's vampire costume. "I love it." They took the car and left.

At the front door of the club, there was a row of people wearing various Halloween customs waiting for their ID to be checked. They joined the line and a little bit later, it was Abbie's and Kai's turn. "ID?" the bouncer asked. They couldn't show him because he wasn't going to let 19-year-olds in, but luckily Abbie could compel him. She looked the man deep in his eyes and said, "You don't need to see our ID. You're going to let us in." The man immediately swung the door open for the two. They entered the club and instantly heard loud music playing.

They went to the bar and ordered two shots. After they drank them, they began dancing. Abbie saw a boy who was covered in fake blood and appeared very drunk. He was the perfect target. She signaled to Kai that she was going to bite him. Kai nodded and she slowly moved towards the boy. The club was quite dark so she didn't need to hide it. She began dancing with the boy closer and closer. Until she was close enough to bite his neck. She didn't suck him dry. A dead body in the middle of the dance floor was difficult to explain. Abbie didn't need to compel him he was too drunk to do anything.

She walked back to Kai and they laughed together about the fact no one noticed. Around 3 am after drinking and dancing for hours they decided to go back home. Once inside they sneaked upstairs to his room and began undressing each other. They starting kissing until Abbie revealed her fangs. "That's hot," he said as she bit into his neck. She began drinking his blood erotically.

The next day, they woke up naked in his bed. Kai's wound had healed because she gave him her blood but there still was some blood on his neck and blood on Abbie's mouth. "We need to clean this up. If you're parents see this they might discover I'm a vampire." Kai nodded. He grabbed a cloth and began wiping away the blood. Abbie smiled as he slowly wiped away the blood on her mouth.

"I love you."

Thank you for reading chapter twenty-two! What do you think? While writing this I created so good fucking lore for the book two and three!

I want to write a masquerade scene, but it wouldn't fit with the story. Why do I suddenly want to do that? Well, I was searching around on the web as one usually does and discovered that Portland, Oregon has a yearly vampire masquerade ball. It looks really fun, too bad I'm halfway across the world. The Versailles also has a yearly masquerade ball. It's way closer for me, but I'm not an adult yet. Venice also has a masquerade ball. It's a bit further away, but way too fancy and expensive for me. Anyway, if you didn't know this already masquerade balls are pog.
