“So,” David spoke again, “take care of yourself and wait for the delivery.”

Elizabeth stammered, “Mr. Ellison, I… you’re not lying to me? How is this possible? There’s no way she would accept me and your child! No, I don’t believe it. You must be saying this just to trick me into coming

down!”

“There’s no need to lie to you. Even if I convince you to come down once, you can just climb back up and try again. Or find another way to kill yourself.”

Elizabeth looked at Samantha, then back at David, panic flashing in her eyes.

Should I believe him or not?

David had already stepped toward the window. “Caroline and I discussed this this morning. I’ve already told you her answer. Elizabeth, what else do you need? Come down.”

He reached out a hand to her, his patience wearing thin.

But Elizabeth hesitated, still unsure. “Mr. Ellison, don’t come any closer! Stop right there! I… I don’t believe you. Not unless you swear it!”

Swear?

David’s word wasn’t something given so easily.

And Elizabeth was in no position to demand it.

He paused. “Caroline is right outside. She can tell you herself.”

Before Elizabeth could react, David turned and shot Samantha a glance.

“What are you standing there for?” he ordered. “Bring Caroline in.”

Samantha hesitated for two seconds but still went to do as he said.

She cracked the door open just enough to see Caroline, then reached out and pulled her inside.

The wind was strong, making it hard for Caroline to keep her eyes open. Strands of her hair whipped across her face.

Caroline looked straight at Elizabeth and said, “Still haven’t jumped?”

“You…” Elizabeth gritted her teeth. “You’re just waiting for me to die! You can’t wait for me to lose this baby, can you?”

“Wrong,” Caroline replied. “You better stay alive and make sure you bring that baby into this world.”

She didn’t believe for a second that David would keep Elizabeth around forever.

Once Elizabeth gave birth, with a child securing her status, she’d get whatever she wanted. She’d definitely start scheming to kick Caroline out of the Ellison family and take her place as Mrs. Ellison.

And when that happened, Caroline would finally be free.

Caroline asked, “Do you really need me to repeat myself? I’d appreciate it if you stopped making a scene and calmed down. Your baby will stay safely in your womb unless you decide to do something reckless. No one is going to touch you. You’re carrying the Ellison bloodline–you’re practically royalty now.”

Elizabeth frowned, confused. “You’re really letting me have this baby?”

The legitimate wife… being this generous? That doesn’t add up. Something is definitely off!

“Whether you have the baby or not is your business. What does it have to do with me?” Caroline shrugged. “What, do you think I have the power to stop you? If I said no, would that actually change anything?”

Caroline found the whole thing absurd.

She added, “I don’t have that kind of authority, and I don’t have the energy to fight over a man. Personally, I can’t wait for you to give birth to the Ellison heir and take my place. The sooner you do, the sooner I get out of here. Being David’s wife is the last thing I want. Come down, Elizabeth. If you slip and actually fall, that would be a real loss. I’m more worried about your baby than you are, so please, take care of yourself. You’re pregnant, for God’s sake.”
