Chapter 51

Mr.Billionaire Meets Ms.Clumsy

The dreaded funeral day has arrived; Grandma Lou friends arrived at her funeral and those who are known as family, like the head of the orphanage and the charity for single mothers. "Thanks for coming, Melissa," Emilyn said.

"I'm so sorry for your loss, I can think of how much Lou has helped us the past few years," Melissa said. "When we were on the verge of closing down, she helps us get back up again."

"I know, did you tell the kids?" Emilyn asked.

"Yes, I can't keep it from them. They will have to know, even though is hard." Melissa said. Emilyn let her mingle with the other guest and greet more people.

"Emilyn." Ana's parents came hugging her. "How are you holding up?" Ana's mum asked.

"I'm doing much better than a few days ago." She said with a small smile. "Ana and Finley have been with me the whole time."

"Come around any time, we don't mind some company." Ana's dad told her.

"I will." She nods, and Ana's parents head inside the venue.

"My family are here." Christopher came by her side.

"Hi." Pierce came with Jax and his wife, plus Christopher's mum, sister-in law's brothers.

"Thank you for coming," Emilyn told them.

"Come here, Emilyn." Christopher's mum hugs her. "Don't be sad, your grandma is in a beautiful place right now." They break away from the hug. Emilyn wiped her tears and nod. Christopher then leads them into the venue.

"Hey, Emilyn," Andrew said.

"Thanks for coming, Andrew."

"No problem, Taylor wanted to come too, but she got work to do. So here I am." He let out a small laugh.

"Is nice, that you are here." Emilyn hugs him. A cough broke their hug; Emilyn turned around to find Christopher standing behind her.

"The service is about to start, we should head in." He said. They made their way into the venue. The service started with the pastor and ended with speeches from Melissa, the head of the women's single mother program and last but not least, Emilyn.

After the service, everyone made their way to the burial ground. Everyone gather around the grave of grandma Lou. As Emilyn watched the casket being lowered to the ground, tears start to pour. She turned around and buried herself into Christopher's chest. She can't bear to see her grandma being lowered to the ground.

After the burial ceremony is finished, all the guests left, leaving Ana, Finley, Christopher and Emilyn. "We should go now," Ana suggested. "It looks like it is going to rain."

"You guys go ahead, I want to stay here for a while," Emilyn said softly. "I'm sure you have other things to take care of."

"I can stay with you as long as you want," Ana told her.

"No, I know you are a busy woman, go. I'll be fine." Emilyn told her.

"Call us,  if you want to talk," Finley told her. Emilyn nods and both of them left.

"You should go too," Emilyn told Christopher. "I saw your phone ringing at the service and you kept checking it. If you have something important to take care of, you should go."

"Are you sure?" Christopher asked.

"yeah." She nod. "I'll be okay, I just want to stay here for a while."

"Alright, call me if you need a ride back. I'll arrange for Gabe to pick you up." Emilyn nods and Christopher left her by herself.

Christopher finally finished what he needed to do, and he can't wait to head home to cuddle up with his angel when he turned the key and unlock the door. He was hoping to see his angel on the couch or in the kitchen, but there's no one home. The entire house is pitch black; "where is she?" Christopher thought.

Quickly, he pulled out his phone from his pants pocket to call Ana. "Is Emilyn with you?"

"No, she's not, I thought she was with you?" Ana asked.

"I left her at the graveyard and she texted me that she's home, but she's not," Christopher said. "Do you think she is still there?"

"I hope not," Ana said worriedly. "I'll meet you there in 10 minutes." They hang up. Christopher hurried out of the building and head to the graveyard. Their guesses are right; she is still there. Drenched wet by the rain, kneeling in front of her grandma's grave.

"Emilyn!" Christopher shouted over the sound of the heavy rain. "Emilyn, what are you still doing here." Christopher covers her with an umbrella. "Come on, let's go." Christopher tries to pick her up by the arm, but she didn't barge. "Emilyn!"

"Christopher!" Ana shouted, running towards him with Finley behind her. "Emilyn," Ana crouched down next to her. "What are you still doing here?" Ana asked.

"Ana, she's gone." Emilyn wrapped her arms around Ana and cried. "She's gone, she left me by myself. I have no other family member left."

"No, that's not true," Ana said. "You still have us, we are your family. Finley, Christopher, my parents. We will always be there for you."

"Yeah, we will always be with you. Just give us a call or a text and we will be there." Finley said. "Please, come home with us." Finley put out his hand for Emilyn. "Is raining."

Emilyn looked up at Finley and Ana contemplating, then she places her hand in his. "Come on let's get you dry and warm." Finley leads her out of the graveyard.

Christopher follows after them when they reach Christopher car, and he opens the passenger door for Emilyn. She shook her head.

"Uhm...that's okay. You can ride with us." Ana interject and lead Emilyn to their car.

Christopher feels disappointed; he doesn't know why she doesn't want to seat in his car.

They got Emilyn back home, showered and warmed up with a bowl of hot soup. "Emilyn, please don't do that again." Ana sat at the side of the bed. "You scared us."

"I'm sorry guys." She apologized. "I'm just going through some things. Is hard to think that grandma was once with me and know she is six feet underground."

"I know is hard, but we will get through it together." Ana holds onto Emilyn's hand.

"Thanks, guys." She hugs Ana.

"Alright, you should get some rest." Ana stood up from the bed. "We should head home now."

"Okay, stay safe," Emilyn told them before they leave her room, leaving her with only Christopher.

"I'm sorry." She apologizes.

"Do you know how scared I was when I didn't see you at home?" Christopher walked towards her bed. "And find you there, drenched." He sigh.

"I'm sorry." Emilyn apologized again.

"Please don't do it again." Christopher holds her hands in his, with sadness in his eyes. "When I found you in the shower, drenched, cold and unconscious. My heart drop." He continues. "I was scared that I'm going to lose you." Tears fell onto the blanket; Emilyn has never seen Christopher cried.

"Rist." Emilyn pulls him into a hug. "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to make you worry about me. I promise you, that I would not do it again ever."

"Okay." He pulled away from the hug. "Get some rest." He pulls the blanket up to her chin.

"Can you lay with me?" Emilyn said softly.

"Of course, but let me take a shower first."

"Okay," Emilyn said in a whisper. Christopher kisses her forehead before going to shower.

***

Christopher woke up but, Emilyn is not next to him. He kicks the blanket away and rushes out of the room. But he stops in the hallway when he saw, Emilyn in her grandma's room.

"What are you doing here?" Christopher asked.

"I'm cleaning up her things." Emilyn reply. Folding her clothes and putting them into a box.

"Let me help." Christopher offered. They cleaned up half of the clothing, then Emilyn found a box from the top of the closet.

She opened it and found letters. One address to her, another to Christopher and the other one to Ana and Finley.

Emilyn passes the letter to Christopher, and she opened hers.

Dear Emilyn,

If you are reading, this means I'm not here anymore; I'm sorry that I couldn't be with you until you got married and have your children like we always talk about.

You have turned into a wonderful, beautiful woman. I can't believe the baby that I hold 24 years ago turn into that woman.

Please don't be sad about it; think about it as a happy thing. I get to see my son and your mother again. But note that I'll always be with you, just like how your mum and dad always are.

I'll know one day you will be a great journalist. Love you always, grandma.

P.S. check for the pen drive

Emilyn finished reading the letter and wiped her tears away before any drop onto the paper. Christopher wraps his hands around her shoulder, pulling her close. She rummages through the box and found a pen drive.

"Do you think there's something important in there?" Christopher asked.

"Grandma told me to find it in her letter," Emilyn said.

"I'll go grab my laptop." Christopher hurried out of the room and brought his laptop.

Emilyn plugs the pen drive into Christopher's laptop and a video pops up.

In that video, is her parents carrying her back home for the first time. Emilyn can't help but smile and cry as she sees her parents again in the video, not in pictures.

At the end of the video, a slideshow of pictures with her grandma, her, and her parents.

"You look so much like your dad," Christopher said.

"I know, that's what grandma always tell me." Emilyn sobbed. The slide show ended, and Christopher plugs out the pen drive.

"Here." Christopher passes it to Emilyn.

Emilyn grabs onto the pen drive tight. It is the only memory left of her family. "I miss them, Christopher." She cried.

"Come here." Christopher places the computer down and lifts Emilyn onto his lap. Christopher runs a comforting hand up and down her back. Soon, she fell asleep in his arms.

Christopher carefully stood up with Emilyn in his arms, trying his best not to let her fall when he stands up. After he manages to stand up, he gently places her down on her bed.

***

Weeks pass and Emilyn is still grieving, but she is getting better. She goes back to work and comes back, sleep and eat and repeats.

Christopher worries about her every day, keep monitoring her, check up on her when she is not with him. Making sure she doesn't daze out; she does that a lot recently.

One night, Christopher was on the phone, and Emilyn creeps out of the room. She follows the voice coming from the kitchen.

"I don't know what to do mom, she seems fine. But I know she is still hurting." Christopher talks on the phone. "Every night, I see her crawling out of bed and going on her laptop watching the pen drive her grandma gave her over and over."

"I feel that I'm part of the reason that she lost her grandma. Dad had a donor." He sigh. "I should have let her go, but I can't." Christopher runs his hand through his head frustratedly. "Is my fault."

"Alright, yeah...I'll try. Thanks, I'll see you soon." He ended the call.

Emilyn heard everything; she didn't know Christopher was upset about her. She heard the chair scraping the floor and quickly run into her room, closing the door softly. Diving into bed before Christopher catch her.

"Hey." Christopher came into the room. "You are not asleep yet?"

"I was going to, I was waiting for you."

"You don't have to." Christopher gave her a smile before crawling into bed with her.

"Rist, can you tell me a story. I can't sleep." She cuddles up onto him, placing her head on his chest.

"Alright," Christopher said and told her a story until she fell asleep.
