âBaby, what is it?â she asks softly.
âNothing, relax. Why are you so worried?â I ask, reaching up and brushing the wet locks of her hair
back. Sheâs wearing the shirt I had discarded not long ago.
Her eyes flutter shut as I run my fingers down her neck. Her face is makeâupâfree,
and she looks breathtaking. Sheâs a beautyâ¦
I caress her cheeks, admiring her dusting of freckles.
She opens her eyes, and they are glistening with tears.
âI donât know⦠Iâm scared.â She whispers, her voice shaky. âYouâre scaring me.â
She looks into my eyes, and I wonder if deep down she knowsâ¦
âI donât mean to,â I reply quietly, clenching my jaw as I try to push away my emotions
that are threatening to drown me.
âWeâre going to get through this, all of this. Together. We are going to find Gerard, and we are going to
defeat the Sable. Together,â she reassures me, but I wonder if
sheâs reassuring herself as well.

âPromise me,â she whispers, an underlying urgency in her tone.
I cup her face, unable to reply to her.
How many more lies will I tell her? How many promises will I break? Our hearts are thumping violently
before I claim her lips in a deep, passionate kiss, sending rivets

thumb over her plump lips.
She nods. âI need to go to Dadâs Pack, too.â
I nod, âAnd I plan to leave extremely early. There are a few things that I want to check with the security
around the grounds.â
She smiles slightly, my words somehow comforting her.
âGreat, sounds like a plan.â
âYeah. Make sure youâre careful when you get to your dadâs pack. Trust nothing and
no one.â
âGot it⦠So, are you leaving really early? Iâm going to head out early, too.â She asks as

I wrap my arms around her tightly, burying my head into her neck. Kissing her there

I wait for her to fall asleep, which doesnât take her long. Sheâs exhausted from the
long night.
I should go⦠but I canât bring myself to move as I hold her, watching her sleep.
Sheâs content⦠despite the exhaustion. Thereâs a small, graceful smile on her
beautiful face.
I simply lay there, gazing at the angel in my arms until I know I canât afford to take
any more time.
Taking a deep breath, I frown as I slowly ease her off my arm. My gaze lingers over
the curve of her breasts and her tiny waist.
I run my hand down her waist and hip, caressing her thigh as I plant a soft kiss on
her lips before I turn away and get out of bed, pulling the blanket up around herâ¦
Now there is only one thing left to do before I leaveâ¦
I glance out of the window up at the full moon, my eyes blazing steely silver before I
turn and head to the door, forcing myself not to look back.
