Chapter 388
I Am The Luna
Chapter 0388
VALERIE.
My heart races, the phone almost slipping from my hold as his words ring in my mind.
Zade turns, carrying me over to the chest of drawers and places me on top of it, still holding me tightly
as he takes his own phone out and types something in on the web browser.
âIâm coming there,â Atticus adds firmly.
Iâm about to stop him when I hesitate. âFine⦠umm, Iâll text you the address because Iâve moved out of
the apartment complex,â I say, looking at Zade who
nods.
âOk, why?â
âIâll talk to you in person,â I answer slowly.
âAlright, just stay safe, Valerie. Maybe you moving wasnât a good idea.â Atticus replies quietly.
âIâm not a kid, Atticusâ¦â
âI know, but it doesnât mean I canât worry. Iâll see you soon. Iâm booking my flight right now.â
I bid him farewell and close my eyes, leaning back against the wall.
âItâs for the better, they need to know⦠I need to check if Matt is ok,â Zade says. quietly.
âYeah⦠Iâm really sorryâ¦â I say quietly as he clicks on another link and the
words âDriver Deadâ emblazoned on the screen.
Guilt rushes through me, and I feel terrible.
âIâm so, so sorry.â
âNo⦠Itâs not your fault⦠this isnât on you.â
I nod, although I donât feel better.
âWeâre going to have to go down to the station. That was my car,â I sigh.
âWeâll deal with this,â Zade promises.
âYouâre not chipped, and neither am I now. What if they ask for your name?â I
ask, trying to calm the anxiousness Iâm feeling.
âI have a fake ID. You donât need to worry about me,â he says, and I nod. Heâs careful, heâll be ok. Itâs
me who is a mess here.
âSend your brother the address and weâll head to the station in the meantime,â he combs his fingers
through my hair as he looks into my eyes.
I sigh heavily, resting my forehead against his. âToday is just going all wrong.â
âItâll get better. Come on, weâll grab something to eat too,â he kisses my shoulder and I nod, sighing.
âMeans Iâm going to have to tell Atticus about us.â
âNot ready?â he asks quietly, his gaze dipping to my breasts, his eyes darkening. âWe could leave that
part out.â
âNo. I am ready,â I answer softly; even if it is going to be hard, Iâm not going to pretend we are not
together. I chose him because I have seen the good in him, even if he is rough around the edges.
Heâs watching me intently, his fingers playing with the strap of my bra. âCome on, then.â.
A part of me wants to finish what we began, but life just isnât giving us a break.
I nod. âGive me a minute,â I sigh.
âIâll get the rest of the stuff out of the truck,â he says, his hands caressing my waist before he moves
back.
I nod. âMake sure you bring everything into this roomâ¦â I say.
He raises an eyebrow, looking down at me. âEverything?â
âYeah, I mean when I need to cool off you can go to the other room⦠but I think we can share a
room⦠I want toâ¦â I answer with a pout.
His grey eye glints. âI know other ways to cool you offâ¦â he murmurs, glancing at me before he leaves
the room, his fingers combing through his hair once again.
I blush lightly, sitting there before my mind drifts to darker thoughts and I ponder over the crash.
Unlocking my phone, I go on to my own web browser and search for the story. Watching the video as
two cars with no number plates close in on my car from both sides.
My heart thuds as one of the cars makes a flash of memory from the night before
rush to the forefront of my head. Something I had not paid attention to. I had. seen that blueâgrey truck
parked at the apartment complex the night before.
MV /
thuds as I stare at my screen, watching as the truck smashes into my car from the side, forcing mine to
careen to the side of the road. The hazard lights are on and I feel terrified for Matt, knowing what is to
comeâ¦
What if I had driven it myself?
Zade was right⦠it wasnât sate⦠This is getting out of hand, and something needs to be done.
âStill nothing coming to mind, Doctor?â the officer asks patronisingly.
âNo, I donât know who is after me. I have done nothing to become a target⦠but itâs becoming a
common thing, isnât it? A werewolf being hunted?â I snap, my patience wearing thin with his indirect
jabs regarding why I would have some enemiesâ.
âNot that weâve heard-â
âThat is a lie. I have had two acquaintances gone, and I reported bothâ¦â Zade
says.
âI wonder why⦠you donât really look like an honourable citizen, right? I see your type every day.â
âExcuse me, you might be an officer, but you will show respect,â I say coldly, feeling a flare of
protectiveness and irritation rush through me, âI am a doctor, officer, and I wonât hesitate to report this
appalling attitude of yours.â
Iâm not sure how much power that would hold, but it does make him look away from Zade, who remains
emotionless.
