I Got You: Dylan's P.O.V ... Goodbye and Greed

Dylan’s P.O.V

I pulled up to my house and sighed knowing that I needed to get this shit over with. I got out of my car and strolled inside the house. I ignored the banging of pots and pans in the kitchen, as I walked down the hall to my room. Kids ran past me.

“Slow down you runts,” I said to two of the other kids that raced past me.

“Sorry, Dylan, Mrs. Baldwin said that Jimmy is leaving!” I furrowed my eyebrows.

“Jimmy? Really?!” I said with shock. They nodded and took off to the living room. I looked at my egg shell colored bedroom door.

It can wait. I thought and then went to the living room.

I noticed right when I got in that there were suitcases by the couch. I wondered why I didn’t see it when I first walked in. I shrugged my shoulders and looked over at Jimmy who had a smile on his face, like he just won the lottery.

“Dylan!” He shouted as he came running over to me. His arms wrapped immediately around my long legs.

“Hey little man, what’s up?” I asked. His dark brown eyes looked up at me.

“I’m leaving. They say I have a new momma and dad now.” I grinned at him, glad to see that someone was finally going to take Jimmy away from here.

“I’m so happy for you,” I admitted. Jimmy let go of me and went over to his suitcase and pulled out a photo of him and I from a few years ago. He ran back over to me and handed me the photo.

“Don’t forget me,” muttered Jimmy. I sighed and bent down to his level. I handed Jimmy back the photo.

“I can’t forget you, ever. You hold on to the photo, I have a copy.” I told him. Jimmy smiled at me.

“Alright, Jim … Jimmy, whatever it is, your new mom and dad are here to take you,” Mrs. Baldwin told Jimmy. He gave me a quick hug before racing off to collect his bags.

I stood up and noticed Mrs. Baldwin was glaring at me. I knew that she had a few words to say to me, but the couple that had just entered the room stopped Mrs. Baldwin from speaking harshly to me.

“Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to adopt Jimmy,” said the woman with a grateful smile on her round face. Mrs. Baldwin returned the smile, but it was clearly fake.

“No problem, glad to see he will be with a family that I know will love him,” replied Mrs. Baldwin. I knew she was not happy about Jimmy leaving. It meant it left her with one less check to collect a month.

With that, Jimmy and his new folks gathered his things and walked out of the house. When the front door closed, Mrs. Baldwin looked at me.

“Where have you been?” She yelled at me. I sighed.

“Around,” I answered, not seeing as to why I had to be honest with her.

“I’ve told you time and time again that if child services find that I’ve let you live on your own, they will take you away.”

“Oh, like you care, the only reason you want me around is so you can collect a check.” I said in full honesty. Mrs. Baldwin’s eyes bulged out and she shook her index finger at me.

“You are pushing my buttons, boy.” she said to me. I rolled my eyes at her, knowing it would piss her off.

“Tell me something new,” I responded.

“I’m your mom, treat me with respect.”

“Correction, you are not my mother. You are a foster mother that only cares about herself and money.” Mrs. Baldwin was about to smack me when the sound of the front door opening stopped her.

“I’m home!” Shouted Mr. Baldwin from the front door.

I took that opportunity to make a mad dash to my bedroom. I unlocked the door before stepping in and closing it behind me. I made sure to lock it, knowing I didn’t want Mrs. Baldwin to get free of her husband and come back to me with a few select words I didn’t want to hear. Without hesitation I turned on the overhead light.

“Dylan?!” I heard a voice say from my bed. I turned around, already knowing who it was.
