Dylanâs P.O.V
âShelby, how many times have I told you not to come here?â I stated as I looked on my bed to see my best friend, Shelby. She smiled a sleepy smile at me.
âSorry, your brother, Laud and I got into a fight, and I couldnât stay at the apartment for one more second.â I sighed and then sat down on the edge of the bed next to her. Shelby looked at me with a crooked grin. âI want to do something. How about we go to Adventureland?â She asked me. I shook my head.
âI actually have to be somewhere right now. I just stopped by here to get some clothes and other items.â Shelby furrowed her eyebrows at me.
âWhy do you keep stuff here? You donât live here,â she commented.
âChild services comes by every once in awhile to check up on Mrs. Baldwin. If it looks like I am not living here at all, then she canât collect her check she gets for âtaking me inâ.â I told her, she sighed and hopped off the bed.
âYou should ditch her ass. You have a real nice apartment thatâs all yours, whether you have your jackass of a brother living in it or not.â I chuckled and then shook my head.
âI know not all of it, but some of the money that she collects goes towards feeding and clothing the others. So if she is not using my money for me, I like to think she is using it for the other kids.â I stated. Shelby rolled her eyes.
âYou are such a kind man. I wish you would rub off on your brother.â She told me.
âIt will take a lot more than me to change Laud.â She nodded and grabbed her leather jacket from my desk chair. âWell, I guess since you wonât entertain me, I will go back to Laud and make him beg for forgiveness.â She winked at me, I laughed.
âWasnât that your plan from the beginning?â I questioned.
âAre you saying I get into arguments with Laud just to turn around and make up with him?â She dramatically gasped, âI canât believe you think that low of me.â With that Shelby walked out of the room, leaving me smiling from ear to ear, knowing that she was such an evil genius.
I gathered my necessary items from around the room quickly. It didnât take me long to fill my black backpack and head back to my car. As soon as I was driving down the road my phone started to ring. I reached over in my passenger seat and picked up my phone.
âHello?â I asked once I answered it.
âYo, bro, I wanted to know what the hell is going on in your room. Someone is screaming for you to unlock the door.â I cursed under my breath.
I thought I had more time.
âCan you ignore it?â I quizzed. Laud laughed and then I could hear the screaming in the background.
âYes, I can ignore the girl who is yelling for someone to unlock the door, but can the neighbors?â He questioned. I tried not to let my eyes roll to the back of my head as it hit me that I didnât think about that. âAnd another problem, I think Shelby is back,â looking ahead, I realized I was only about a minute or two away.
âI will be there soon,â I spoke.
âWait, what am I going to say to-â I hung up with him because I didnât know how to answer his question. Knowing Laud he would come up with something creative.
It wasnât long before I was pulling into my paved driveway, putting the car in park and getting out quickly with my backpack in hand. I literally ran into the house, not knowing what to expect.
Once the cool air of the house cascaded on my face I saw that Laud was on the floor with Shelby beneath him.
âLet me go! There is a girl in there!â Shelby shouted as she thrashed around trying to get out from under him.
âNo, you are not allowed to go in there. Itâs ⦠It's a Russian assassin!â He lied.
âIf someone doesnât open this damn door. I will break it down!â Kay shouted from my room. I sighed and then the two heads turned to look at me. Laud was giving me a pleading look whereas Shelby was glaring at me.
âYou,â Shelby said with her voice laced in anger. I gave her an innocent smile.
âI can explain.â

It took forever to get Shelby to understand my actions. I still got the fifth degree from her about how she doesnât approve of what I did. She even told me that if I kept Kay against her will for more than a day, she would help Kay escape.
I made my way to my now silent room, in the midst of telling Shelby my explanation, Kay calmed down and realized she was not going anywhere right now.
Once in my room I saw Kay sitting Indian style a few feet from the door. Her eyes glared icy daggers at me when I came in. Making sure the door was locked behind me. I turned and tossed my backpack on the bed.
âYou will pay,â was all I heard before I saw Kay move in the corner of my eyes. She jumped up off the floor and leaped on my back. She started to bang her fist on my head and shoulder.
âOuch, shit, that hurts ⦠stop!â I shouted as she kept hitting me like I was a rag doll.
âIt hurts?! Really?! And you thought I was going easy on you!?!â She said in outrage. With quick, fluid movements I flipped her over and on the bed. She jumped up and looked at me with fists held up.
âWhat are you?â I joked, because she just kept trying to come at me.
âI am your worst nightmare, because you, Dylan, stole Maddyâs phone, texted me to meet you outside, and chloroformed me!!!â
âMan you make me sound like a bad guy,â I said.
âBad? Sweeney Todd is bad! You! You sir! Are just plain-â I cut her off my lightly pushing her down on the bed. I was now hovering over her.
âKay, the only reason you are here, is so I can tell you, without you yelling at me that I am done with Jess. I want to be with you.â Kay looked at me.
âAre you serious?!â She asked me. I nodded and let go of her, because I said what I wanted to say. She got off the bed.
âYeah, I am.â With that I got up and wrapped my hand around Kayâs waist. She gave me a smile, but I knew that kind of smile, after all Iâd seen it plenty of times on Mrs. Baldwinâs face ⦠it was fake.
âGo to hell,â and before I could process what she was saying and meant, I felt pain erupted in my manhood. I doubled over, and she snatched the key from my pocket. âDonât you ever think you can kidnap me, and in the words of Savvy, BEE-ITCH!â Then Kay ran to the door, and all I could do was watch as she unlocked the door and took left towards the front door.
