âBella, since youâre talking about ajfuture with me, does that mean that you are happy to marry me?â
Justin let out a bad-boy smile and
gave her cheek a squeeze.
Bella was stubborn. âNo. I didnât say I was going to marry you. Besides
âThat was not a proposal,â Bella thought to herself.
Ralph was faced with a tricky situation at the station.
The police were past the legal limit for holding Shannon in custody. Ralphâs bosses were putting
pressure on Ralph to let Salvador Corporation bail Shannon out in the next two hours.
Time passed.
Hunter Lovett met with Shannon in the interrogation room and drew
close to Ralphâs desk. He took a seat and crossed his legs arrogantly.
Lifting his chin, Hunter said with a mocking smile, âCaptain
Thompson, I know you want to get even for your sister, but everybody is equal in the eyes of the law.
Donât try to accuse the innocent. Donât
expect to make everything so personal. In fact, youâre showing your
inadequacy to act accordingly as a police officer. Youâre green. Compared to your veteran officers, you
have so much to learn.â
âSo youâre saying the person in there is innocent?â
Raising his brow, Ralph stared intently at Hunterâs smug face. âMr. Lovett, you are too blind to see the
facts right in front of you.â
âYou!â
While enraged, Hunter kept himself from pounding the table to stay in character. He hissed through
clenched teeth, âCaptain Thompson, donât think I wonât do anything to you because youâre Chairman
Thompsonâs son. I can sue you for the personal attack.â
âGo on then if you dare,â Ralph sneered. He had seen through the
manâs tendency to pick on the weak.
The Lovett brothers were so different. Steven was a great guy, but
Hunter turned out to be a jerk.
âHmph! Stop the pointless resistance, Captain Thompson.â
Hunter sunk his back into his seat and arrogantly looked at the time. Thereâs two hours left on the
clock. Whatâs the point of holding her? The outcome will not change. What can a measly police officer
do?
âWhy donât you just call it quits and go back to being an heir? You
might be of better use to society.â
âWhy should I listen to you?â
Ralph glared at Hunterâs sickening face and replied, âEven if I have
two hours, Shannon has to stay here until the very end.â
Hunter shrugged. âAlright then. It wonât stop me from going back
home to watch my show tonight.â
Despite his blank face, Ralph clenched his fists.
Fuck!
He prayed for a miracle.
A female officer hurried over.
âCaptain Thompson, we have a confession.â
âA confession? Which case?â
âShannonâs case. He said that Shannon got the drugs from him. He
has proof to show that Shannon was using.â
Ralphâs eyes lit up.
Hunterâs breath hitched as shock washed over him.
âWhatâs his name?â
Simon entered with a faint smile.
