Chapter 1142:

Melany noticed that he was still hung up on Allison, but she acted like she was giving him advice. “Colton, you really should drink less.” What a pain. If he got too drunk, Melany would have to find a way to take him home. And, of course, Lindy would blame her again!

“‘My business isn’t your problem,’” he snapped.

He ignored her entirely and kept drinking like it was nothing. Only the alcohol could numb his thoughts. It was the only way to forget the mess that had just happened.

Seeing this, Melany decided it was best to leave him be.

At that moment, her phone buzzed.

She looked at the screen and frowned—it was a message from Hoyt.

Her annoyance quickly grew.

Earlier, when Hoyt made a fool of himself, Melany had been watching from a distance. After all, it wasn’t her problem.

Getting too close to him now would only lead to people mocking her, and it wasn’t a good time to meet anyway! What in the world was that idiot thinking?

It was almost as if Hoyt could sense her frustration, because he sent another message right away.

“‘We’re in this together, Mrs. Stevens. You know that, don’t you?’”

Melany felt a subtle threat in his words. After all, she and Hoyt had worked together before.

Melany sighed, took a deep breath, and reluctantly headed to the place he had mentioned.

In the dressing room at the end of the hall, she found Hoyt leaning against the wall, smoking a cigarette.

“‘What do you want from me?’” Melany asked, her voice dripping with impatience.

She couldn’t help but think back to the wild night they had shared after she got drunk.

But people like them could never be more than that.

Their relationship had always been a game of mutual use.

Hoyt heard her voice and glanced at her reflection in the mirror. His tone was cocky, as always.

“‘Don’t be in such a rush, Mrs. Stevens. Since you’re already here, why not stay for a chat? No one will bother us in the dressing room.’”

“‘You’re crazy,’” Melany said. Sometimes, she really regretted engaging with such a madman.

After checking that no one was nearby, Melany shut the door behind her.

“‘There are too many people out there; they might see us. And I’m pregnant, so don’t bother me unless it’s something important.’”

Hoyt let out a laugh when he heard that. “‘Since when did you become so timid?’”

He recalled his mother’s advice. Since he couldn’t go after them directly, he might as well use Melany. After all, they both had the same enemy.

“‘Relax. I know exactly how to get back at them,’” he said with a confident grin.

“‘What are you trying to say?’” Melany quickly snapped to attention. “‘If you have something to say, just say it now directly. I don’t have time to mess around.’”
