Chapter 1143:

She was clearly tense and irritated.

Her frustration had only grown after her plan to ruin Allison’s gift had failed. Worse, Allison had turned things around on her. Melany couldn’t shake the feeling that nothing was going the way she wanted today.

“‘Mrs. Stevens, you’re getting more ruthless by the day.’”

Hoyt leaned casually against the sink, his eyes locking onto Melany’s.

“‘The party’s going strong. After what happened earlier, Kellan will definitely be pulled aside to talk business. That means Allison will be left alone again. We might not be able to touch Kellan, but we can certainly make his girlfriend look foolish.’”

As Hoyt spoke, he pulled out a packet of white powder. “‘Whether or not you go through with it is entirely your decision.’”

He reached for Melany’s face, but she quickly turned away, avoiding his touch.

“‘Hoyt, don’t think I’m blind. You’re just trying to use me,’” Melany said, fully aware of his game. She refused to take the packet. “‘If I were to poison her, the police would be all over me, and you would achieve the goal without paying any price. Don’t even think about getting me to kill someone.’”

Hoyt let out a laugh.

At first, when she pushed him away, his face had darkened. But once he realized that Melany had misunderstood his intentions, he couldn’t help but chuckle.

“‘Mrs. Stevens, I’m not stupid enough to do something like that. Poisoning’s way too easy to get caught for.’”

He continued to toy with the packet of white powder in his hand. Hoyt did want to manipulate Melany, but seeing how cautious she had become, his tone shifted to something more threatening.

“‘I told you, calm down. Right now, we’re on the same team. Neither your husband nor the Stevens family will back you up. What’s in this packet will make someone feel awful, desperate for intimacy to find any relief.’”

Hoyt had made his message clear, and they both understood exactly what he meant.

He held out the packet again. “‘The decision is yours.’”

Melany’s brow furrowed. She knew Hoyt had a point. Especially after Colton had openly told her they were definitely breaking up, and that he was going back to Allison.

His words had hit hard. They made Melany realize that if Colton wasn’t on her side, the Stevens family would be even less likely to help her.

“‘Today’s events are done with. Allison isn’t so easy to get to. Don’t treat me like a fool.’” While Melany was still unsure, she knew there were risks involved.

“‘How hard could it be?’” Hoyt smirked with obvious disdain. “‘As long as you have the guts to pour this into Allison’s wine, I can clear the way and make sure you can do it without any trouble.’”

“‘Have you lost your mind?’” Melany turned her head to glance at the door. Lowering her voice, she sneered, “‘Everyone outside is focused on Allison right now. Plus, Kellan’s there. He and Fabian have business together, and they won’t be leaving anytime soon.’”

“‘That’s why I said I’d help get them out of the way,’” Hoyt said, his eyes narrowing with a cold smile. “‘Mrs. Stevens, I’m sure someone as clever as you can manage it. Unless… you don’t want me to go have a little chat with Colton, do you?’”

Melany’s face hardened when she heard his words. “‘Well, are you threatening me?’”
