Chapter 762:
Just as he was about to leave, Verruckt spoke again.
âAlso, send Alice to see me.â
Jareth didnât quite understand why, but he nodded and left.
Once Jareth left, the office became quiet once more.
Verruckt absentmindedly ran his thumb over the scab on his lip. That woman, Alice, had dared to bite him, yet when others picked on her, she just took it without fighting back.
What a fool. His face showed no emotion. His crimson eyes were dark and unreadable.
Before long, Allison knocked at the door, her hand wrapped in white gauze. She lowered her gaze slightly and asked, âMr. Shaw, how may I assist you?â
Today, Allison wore a black uniform, making the white gauze on her hand stand out even more.
Verruckt tilted his head and asked, âHow did you hurt your hand?â
Allison replied honestly, âI accidentally burned it with hot coffee.â
âYou know how to use a coffee machine. How did you manage to burn yourself?â
Verruckt calmly pointed out the flaw in her story.
Allison froze for a moment, pretending to be surprised that he remembered such a small detail. She lowered her head even further. âIt was just an accident.â
Verrucktâs voice turned sharp. âCome here.â
Allison glanced at her gauze, making sure it was perfectly wrapped. But Verrucktâs thoughts were always hard to predict.
She walked over to his desk without hesitation, but kept her distance. They maintained an uncomfortable space between them.
Verruckt teased her, âWhat, are you scared of me now?â
âYes,â Allison answered quietly.
âYouâre the one who bit me last night.â Verruckt stepped closer, casually tilting her chin up. âI didnât see you scared then.â
Allison had no choice but to look up at him. She noticed the small scab on his lips, which were still slightly red. She should have bitten his tongue off while she had the chance. If she had known subject 005 would turn out like this, she never would have shown him mercy back then.
Now, all she could do was play the victim. âThat⦠that was just an accident.â
The moment she spoke, Verruckt gave a mocking smile.
âIf it was an accident, why have you been avoiding me all day?â He leaned in, their bodies nearly touching. Verrucktâs voice was low and carried a sharp, commanding tone. âYouâd better stop looking down, or Iâll gouge your eyes out.â
