Chapter 763:
He had always enjoyed preserving beautiful things, like gems, in formalin.
âI wasnât⦠I wasnât avoiding you on purpose.â
Allison pretended to be stubbornly trying to come up with an excuse.
âMaybe itâs just that there were too many files.â
But in truth, she had been keeping her distance on purpose. His cold, arrogant nature was like that of a wild animal, one that needed to be handled carefully â approach and retreat, in just the right balance.
âIs that so?â
Verruckt grabbed her chin with two fingers and made her look up.
âLook me in the eye.â
Allison had no choice but to meet his blood-red stare.
They were too close. Their noses nearly touched. The air between them crackled with tension. Their eyes locked, each trying to dominate the other. Danger hung in the air.
Verrucktâs presence was fierce and overwhelming, surrounding Allison completely. He had always been unpredictable, using any means necessary to get what he desired. Lately, things had started to spiral out of his control. And it was all because of the woman standing in front of him.
âSo, it was files that kept you busy today, huh?â Verruckt chuckled mockingly. He didnât buy her excuse for a second.

Allison stayed quiet. She couldnât guess what this unpredictable madman might do, but she knew how to handle him. âIf this is about last night, I can apologize.â
Her voice softened as she met his gaze, her red-rimmed eyes showing a hint of vulnerability. âIâm really sorry.â
Sure enough, the man who had seemed ready to kill her just moments before suddenly released his grip. âI donât need your apology, or your tears.â
Seeing her about to cry only frustrated Verruckt more. âFrom now on, you wonât be handling the files anymore.â He gestured to the empty spot next to him. âYour job is to stay here and wait for my orders.â
Without giving her a chance to respond, Verruckt roughly pushed her into a cold chair. He then pulled out a first aid kit without any hurry.
âBrace yourself for the pain while I treat that wound, and donât scream.â
Verrucktâs eyes resembled those of a wild animal, radiating a heavy, suffocating energy. It felt as though he could strike at any second, and there was nowhere for her to escape.
Allison raised her eyebrows slightly. She understood that he was planning to treat her wound. âThereâs no need to bother,â she said, shaking her head as she refused again. âDidnât Mr. Williamson say I have a boyfriend?â she asked.
