"Wang Qing,come out"
Wang Qing walked out from the room he was sleeping,stretched his arms and rubbed his eyes as if he just got up from deep slumber.Actually he  already woke up before dawn but decided to stay inside the room,he waited until his name being called or when Dayu went to work.
"What time is this?" said Wang Qing while yawning.
"Almost 10" answered Dayu.
Wang Qing walked forward with his eyes half asleep and saw Dayu was sitting at the dining table,having breakfast on his own. He pulled a chair across Dayu and sat down.
"You bought a lot" commented Wang Qing once he laid his eyes on various dishes on the table.
"Help yourself" said Dayu.
Wang Qing realized Dayu had that cold vibe judging from the way he talked. Wang Qing took a glimpse before choosing his breakfast. He quietly ate his food and so did Dayu. It was no different than him eating alone at his apartment. Wang Qing cleared his throat,attempted to strike a conversation with the man before him.
"Why did you lie to me?"
Wang Qing mouth hanged as he stared at Dayu who had his eyes straight at him.
"Lie about what?" Wang Qing awkwardly laugh as he tried to remain calm.
"I asked the security earlier,there was no report been made about your apartment."
"Which one did you asked?The young one i think because i told the old one last night," said Wang Qing as he tried to hide his nervousness.
"Both" answered Dayu. He put down the chopstick he held earlier beside his bowl of congee. Wang Qing knew at that moment he had to tell the truth. Dayu was not someone who would fall for a lie like that. He was not a child to believe in everything being told.
Wang Qing took a deep breath and said "I am sorry.I did not intend to take you for a fool but i had no other excuse to tell".
Dayu crossed his arms,his face showed that he was not satisfied with the answer given by Wang Qing as he asked "Why?"
"I want to get close to you.I want to know you," answered Wang Qing. I was ready to see disgusted expression coming from Dayu but instead he was asked with another "Why?"
"Because.." he paused for a while and said " I want to protect you"
"I know as an officer it's your duty to protect the citizen but i am in no harm.I don't need to be protect," reasoned Dayu.
"No,you don't understand" Wang Qing sighed. He was torn in between telling the truth and created another lie.
"Make me understand then," urged Dayu. Food in front of them had turned cold but they were too immersed in their heated debate.
"But you have to promise not to freak out.What i am about to tell you might sound ridiculous" Wang Qing looked at Dayu hoping that he will agree. Dayu nodded his head.
"I vowed that i will protect you in this life,at any cost.I am committing myself to you.In another word,i am yours in this life.I know you might be questioning yourself right now but you have to trust me." Wang Qing let out a loud breath through his mouth,trying to figure out what thought Dayu might had upon hearing those words he said.
"Like my guardian?But why?" Dayu still wanted more clarification.
"No..Well,sort of.I owed my previous life to a guy name Jianyu. By the time i made that vow,i realized i loved him but fate was not in our side" explained Wang Qing.
"You are not thinking i am that Jianyu right?Just because we share the same name," Dayu blinked his eyes. Honestly it was hard to swallow. Dayu did not know for sure if Wang Qing was telling the truth or it was just something he made up.
"I am sure for that because i still have memories of you with me.Look,i don't ask you to accept it because i know you are a wise man.I will prove it to you instead.So,let me just protect you.I don't ask for anything as return,not even your love because i know it is not mine to keep" Wang Qing forced a smile. He did hope that Dayu will reciprocate his feeling but after learning about his relationship with Irene,he just wanted Dayu to be happy.In Wang Qing previous life as General Wang,he was unable to give happiness to his beloved one though he had the power to do so.
Dayu was stunned by what he just heard. Just moments ago he was sure that the man sitting in front of him was as straight as a pole but now he felt confused. He did not know of what to say nor what expression should he wears. If everything been said was indeed true then he is tied to that man he just met a week ago.But if what been said was a lie then it did shaken his heart a little. Dayu frowned as he saw Wang Qing's bitter expression. They both sat quietly after that,finishing their cold breakfast as their thought went deeper and deeper.
Wang Qing went back to his apartment after breakfast,knowing that staying over at Dayu's apartment will be uncomfortable for him. He properly thanked Dayu before leaving and Dayu did not stop him. Dayu was supposed to meet a client that afternoon but he cancelled his meeting. His mind was in such a mess,he need some time to clear it up. Wang Qing dropped by the parking lot before went to his apartment because he remembered leaving his cellphone in his car.
Staring at his cellphone being charged,Wang Qing thought he need to be recharge as well. If life is a simple as a cellphone then he will not feel so miserable. Just plug in and charge up whenever he died,deletes memories he does not wish to keep,set things back to factory mode when he messes up. Just how wonderful it would be but his life is not a cellphone.He did not has the ability to do as he wished. Wang Qing plopped on his bed. He just feel like sleeping throughout the day.
"Urgent information!Building C will experience a blackout in an hour from now until tomorrow's morning due to some maintenance in the building.We are sorry for any inconvenience.Building A,B and D however are not affected"
A sudden announcement woke Wang Qing up,he was not sure when did he fell asleep. He looked at the time and it was already 4. He checked on his cellphone to see if it already been fully charged and turn it on. He went out and started searching for candles on wall units.Unfortunately there was none in his possession. He had a thought on crashing Chengyu place for a night but considering that his friend probably on a night duty,it was not polite to do so. He cannot stay at A Lin's place either because she stayed with her four other female friends. So he went down to buy himself some candles for the night but another unfortunately event fell onto him. Candles were sold out!Wang Qing returned to his apartment,feeling disappointed.
As the sun started to set,darkness started to fill in. Wang Qing stood by the window,looking at people on the street laughing and chatting while him being all alone in the dark. The moon was full that night and stars filled the sky but none of those can bring a smile on Wang Qing face.Not sure of what the future might be for him,Wang Qing sighed. If Jianyu were born as female then things will be easier,he thought.But he has no regret.Be it male or female,plant or animal,he will still love Jianyu. He will never take back his vow.
Wang Qing closed the window and walked toward his room with the help of moonlight beam.He saw his cellphone screen lighten up as he entered his room. He touched the screen as he unlocked his phone.100 miscalls and 68 messages. Wang Qing gasped upon seeing the notifications.If those were from his chief or mother then he will be in deep trouble. He tap on the call log and carefully observed the number but what he saw shocked him even more.Half of those calls were from Dayu from days ago and some were from minutes ago. Wang Qing thought he was dreaming. When he was busy scrolling,another call came in and it was from Dayu. Wang Qing cleared his throat as he accepted the call.
"I am outside,open the door" said the other end,causing Wang Qing to flinch. Before he could utter a word,Dayu ended the call. Wang Qing dropped his phone on the bed and rushed to main entrance where he quickly opened up his door. It was indeed Dayu standing in front of his apartment.
"Why are you here?" asked Wang Qing. He cannot clearly see Dayu expression due to the darkness surrounding them.
"Because he did not pick up my call" answered Dayu as he slowly took a step inside the house.
"Can you see?" Wang Qing held out his hand,offering help but Dayu turned on the flashlight with his cellphone.
"Of course," said Wang Qing under his breath.How can he not think of that earlier.He just wasted his time sitting in the darkness for hours. Wang Qing can't believe how silly he was. Dayu was already half way into his house while Wang Qing was still at the door.
"What are you doing over there?" asked Dayu. Wang Qing realized he was lost in his own thought. He closed the door and locked it up.
"But why are you here?Do you need something?" asked Wang Qing as he walked toward Dayu. After their conversation that morning,Wang Qing was not sure if Dayu still wants to see him or not.
"I thought about what you said earlier and you sounded sincere while saying all those words" Dayu carefully delivered his words.
"Like i said,i was the one who pledged to you.It is all on me.You don't have to think too much about it" said Wang Qing.
"If what you said is true then no matter what happen you will always protect me?Even if i get married and have children of my own?Will you still be by my side?" Dayu sure had a lot to ask.
"Yes.I am yours but you don't have to be mine," answered Wang Qing in a low tone of voice.
"Won't you get married and have children of your own?" asked Dayu again. Wang Qing had no idea that the conversation will continue until night.
"I won't" he simply answered.
"Then kiss me" requested Dayu.
"What?" Wang Qing himself was not sure if what he just heard was real or his imagination.
"Kiss me as a seal to your vow"
Wang Qing cannot believe his own ears. Dayu probably out of his mind to request such a thing,or perhaps he was mocking him. While Wang Qing was analyzing the situation,Dayu already bravely stepped forward and stopped few inches from Wang Qing. He lifted up his face and closed his eyes as he puckered his lips waiting to be kissed. Wang Qing was hesitated for a moment but Dayu stood firmly in front of him. If he backed off,Dayu would think that what he said earlier was a lie. And if he kissed him,how would be face Irene in the future. Wang Qing made his decision. He leaned in and gave a light peck on Dayu's lips.It was only seconds. Dayu opened his eyes and frowned but Wang Qing probably could not see that in the darkness.
"A proper kiss" he demanded.
"I can't" said Wang Qing as he turned his face away.
"So you don't really love me as you said you are," Dayu scoffed.
Wang Qing felt as if he had been challenged by that man in front of him.His eyes were burning with desire that he had to keep. He turned back his face,facing Dayu as he stretched his arm and sneak his hand around Dayu's waist ;forcefully pulled him closer.
"You asked for it," he whispered in Dayu's ear before pressing his lips onto Dayu soft lips.He parted his lips as he caught Dayu's upper lip in between,lightly sucked it in. Dayu responded by parting his own lips and thus,they exchanged kisses.
Wang Qing pulled himself before he got carried away. Dayu gently held out his arms and wrapped them around Wang Qing's waist.
"General Wang,i have been waiting for so long" said Dayu before resting his head on Wang Qing's chest.
Wang Qing was confused but he held Dayu closed to himself as the moonlight beamed on them.
