The warm glow of the TV screen flickered across the living room as Jake and Alex lounged on the couch, their empty food wrappers scattered on the coffee table. Laughter filled the room as they finished another episode, but before they could queue up the next one, Mrs. Faulkner grabbed the remote and paused the screen.

"Alright, boys," she said, stretching as she stood. "It's already 11 PM. Since it's your first night as brothers in your new room, I let you stay up a little longer, but now it's time for bed."

Jake groaned playfully. "Aww, just one more episode?"

Alex nodded in agreement. "Yeah, Mom, please?"

Mrs. Faulkner raised an eyebrow and crossed her arms. "Nice try, but no. I want you both ready for bed. That means showers, brushing your teeth, PJs, and of course—diaper changes. No arguments."

Jake and Alex exchanged glances, both sighing in defeat. They knew better than to push their luck when she got that tone in her voice.

"Alright, alright, we're going," Jake said, standing up and stretching.

"Race you to the bathroom!" Alex shouted, bolting off the couch.

"Hey! No fair!" Jake laughed, chasing after him.

They dashed up the stairs, their laughter echoing through the house. Alex managed to reach the bathroom first, locking the door behind him triumphantly.

"Guess you’re second, bro!" Alex teased from the other side.

Jake rolled his eyes with a grin and leaned against the wall, waiting his turn. "Yeah, yeah. Just hurry up."

After their showers and nightly routines, the boys made their way to their newly shared room. Mrs. Faulkner was already inside, setting out fresh diapers for them. She patted the bed beside her. "Alright, let’s get this done so you can get some sleep."

Jake flopped onto his bed with a yawn. "Man, I’m exhausted."

Alex sat down beside him, running a hand over the soft bedding. "Me too, but… this was a pretty awesome day."

Mrs. Faulkner smiled as she helped them both get changed. "I’m glad to hear that. You two are brothers now—this is just the beginning of many more great days ahead."

Once they were ready, she tucked them in, switching off the overhead light and leaving only the warm glow of a small night lamp. She stood in the doorway, watching them for a moment.

"Goodnight, boys. Sweet dreams."

"Goodnight, Mom," Jake murmured sleepily.

Alex hesitated for a second before echoing, "Goodnight… Mom."

A soft smile spread across Mrs. Faulkner’s face before she gently shut the door.

As the boys lay in the quiet darkness, Alex turned toward Jake. "Hey… thanks for everything, man. I know this was your room first."

Jake turned his head slightly, a small smirk forming. "Yeah, but now it’s ours. And I guess having a brother isn’t so bad."

Alex chuckled. "Yeah… not bad at all."

The boys lay in silence for a few minutes before Alex spoke again. "You think we’ll ever get used to all this?"

Jake yawned. "I think so. It’s weird now, but give it time. We’re in this together."

Their conversation drifted off as their eyelids grew heavy. Though their lives had changed drastically, they both knew that whatever came next, they wouldn’t be facing it alone.

With that thought, they finally drifted off to sleep, their first night as real brothers in their new home.

A few hours passed as they slept peacefully, but then Alex suddenly stirred. A deep churning in his stomach woke him up, and he groaned softly, holding his belly. He swallowed hard as realization hit him.

"Oh no… the Taco Bell is coming for its vengeance…" he whispered to himself, dreading what was about to happen next.

He tried to get up and make a dash for the bathroom, but as he reached the hallway, he found the door locked. His stomach twisted again, making him double over slightly. He knocked frantically.

"Mom! Are you in there? I really need to go!"

From inside, Mrs. Faulkner’s voice responded. "Sorry, sweetheart! I just got in—give me a few minutes!"

Jake, hearing the bedroom door shut, blinked his eyes open and realized Alex was gone. Curious, he got up and wandered into the hallway, only to find Alex shifting from foot to foot, his face tense and strained.

"Dude, what’s wrong?" Jake asked sleepily.

Alex looked at him with wide eyes. "Bathroom’s locked. And I really have to go."

Jake winced. "Oof… bad timing. Hang in there, man."

Alex groaned, gripping his stomach as another wave hit. He just hoped he could hold out long enough for their mom to finish.

After what felt like forever, the bathroom door finally clicked open, and Mrs. Faulkner stepped out. "All yours, honey—"

But as she looked at Alex’s face, she realized it was too late.

Alex’s face turned bright red as he began to push filling the seat of his diaper with fresh poo. Holding his head down in embaressment as he had lost the battle against time once again.

Jake rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. "Uh…" Well, at least you don’t have to worry about making it now."

Mrs. Faulkner sighed, placing a gentle hand on Alex’s shoulder. "It’s alright, sweetheart. Accidents happen. Let’s get you cleaned up."

Alex nodded, still embarrassed, but feeling a little better knowing he wasn’t being scolded. As Mrs. Faulkner led him to get changed. Jake patted his shoulder reassuringly. "Hey, don’t worry about it. The first night in a new place—could’ve happened to anyone."

Alex managed a small smile. "Thanks, bro."

Jake grinned. "That’s what brothers are for."

As they returned to their room, Mrs. Faulkner tucked Alex back into bed and ruffled his hair. "Get some rest, sweetheart. Tomorrow’s a new day."

As she left the room, Alex let out a deep sigh, his embarrassment fading as the warmth of his new home settled over him. He wasn’t just a guest anymore. He had a family—a real family. And that made all the difference.

With that comforting thought, he closed his eyes and drifted back to sleep, knowing that no matter what, he wasn’t alone anymore.

The next morning, Jake stirred awake and sat up, stretching. As he shifted in bed, he suddenly felt an all-too-familiar squish against his backside. His eyes widened in realization before he let out a groan.

"Oh man… I guess I lost the battle to Taco Bell as well."

The sound of his voice woke Alex, who turned over sleepily. As Jake gave him a sheepish look, Alex couldn't help but burst into laughter.

"Guess I’m not the only one, huh?"

Jake laughed, too, shaking his head. "Nope… looks like we both got wrecked."

Mrs. Faulkner, hearing the commotion, walked in and raised an eyebrow. "Alright, what’s so funny?"

Jake and Alex exchanged looks before responding in unison, "Taco Bell won."

Mrs. Faulkner sighed but chuckled softly, shaking her head. "Alright, let’s get you two cleaned up. I think we’ll stick to something a little lighter for breakfast."

As she helped them get ready for the day, Alex felt a sense of comfort wash over him. Despite the embarrassing moment, he realized something important—he wasn’t alone anymore.
