As the VR headsets powered down, Bradley clapped his hands together. "Alright, boys, time's up! Hope you had fun."
Jake took off his headset, still blinking as he adjusted to reality. "That was awesome! I still can't believe Alex beat me."
Alex smirked. "Better luck next time, bro."
Bradley chuckled. "You guys should definitely come back. We update the game selection all the time."
"We will!" Alex said enthusiastically.
Mrs. Faulkner smiled as she watched them thank Bradley before leading them back into the mall. "Alright, boys, we still have a few more stops. Letâs finish up."
As they walked down the mall corridor, the bright displays and inviting storefronts called out to them. The next store on the list was a clothing shop. "You two need a few new outfits. Canât just live in gaming shirts forever," Mrs. Faulkner teased.
Jake groaned. "Clothes shopping?"
"Yes, clothes shopping," she said with a chuckle. "It wonât take long."
Once inside, Alex immediately gravitated toward a hoodie with a pixelated sword design. "This is sick!"
Jake, on the other hand, found a sleek black jacket with red accents. "I could rock this."
After a quick try-on session, they picked out a few more shirts and jeans before checking out. "Alright, now that wasnât so bad, was it?" their mom asked.
"It was tolerable," Jake admitted with a smirk.
Back in the main mall area, they spotted a small kiosk selling collectible figures and keychains. "Can we check that out?" Alex asked.
Mrs. Faulkner nodded. "Go ahead, but donât take too long."
The boys browsed the various figures, picking out a couple of keychainsâAlex choosing one shaped like a pixelated pickaxe, while Jake grabbed one with a fire emblem.
Feeling satisfied with their haul, they headed toward the food court for a quick break. As they sat with their drinks, Mrs. Faulkner smiled at them. "Having fun?"
Jake and Alex nodded in unison. "Best shopping trip ever!" Alex said.
"Well, letâs finish up. We have one last stop before we head home."
As they left the food court, something else caught their eyeâa sports store filled with basketballs, jerseys, and sneakers. "Can we check that out real quick?" Jake asked.
Mrs. Faulkner sighed playfully. "Alright, but just a few minutes."
Inside, they marveled at the rows of gear, each picking up a new pair of sneakersâJake going for red and black, Alex choosing blue and white. After testing a few basketballs, they each grabbed one before finally heading to the checkout.
With their hands full of shopping bags and grins on their faces, the boys followed their mom toward the parking lot, officially wrapping up a successful shopping trip. As they loaded everything into the car, Alex leaned back in his seat, sighing contentedly. "I think we have everything we need."
Jake smirked. "For now."
Their mom chuckled. "Alright, letâs head home and get everything set up."
With that, they drove off, ready to make their shared room truly their own.
Once home, the boys eagerly unloaded their bags, carrying everything inside. They took care of their new clothes, setting them aside for washing, and then moved on to their favorite partâsetting up their new gaming space.
Jake unboxed his sleek red and black desk chair, spinning it around with excitement before taking a seat. "This is so comfy!"
Alex, equally thrilled, rolled out his blue leather chair and plopped down. "Dude, we are gonna game in style."
They laid out the Minecraft cake rug in the center of the room, making it feel even more like their own personal haven. With the posters hung up and their new setup complete, Jake looked around and nodded. "Yep, best shopping trip ever."
Alex grinned. "I think weâre officially settled in now."
Their mom peeked into the room, smiling at their excitement. "Looks like you boys made it your own."
"We did," Jake agreed. "Thanks for everything, Mom."
Alex hesitated for a moment before adding, "Yeah⦠thanks, Mom."
Mrs. Faulknerâs heart warmed at the sound of Alex calling her "Mom." She pulled them both into a quick hug. "Alright, now that everythingâs set up, whoâs up for a game night?"
Jake and Alex grinned at each other before shouting in unison, "We are!"
And with that, their first night truly feeling like brothers in their new home began.
