Chapter 51: 𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗬 𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗘

DAYLIGHT, billie eilishWords: 6026

THE EVENING WAS SET AGAINST the soft glow of the fancy restaurant's lights, but for billie and valerie, the world outside seemed to disappear. their table, tucked in the corner by the window, had an incredible view of the city, but neither of them cared much about the scenery. the most important thing was the way they could look at each other like it was just them in the room.

valerie leaned forward, resting her chin on her hand, watching billie with an amused expression. "you know, you've been staring at me for a while now," she said, a teasing grin forming on her lips.

billie smirked, not breaking eye contact. "you look good enough to stare at all night," she replied smoothly, her voice low and playful.

valerie raised an eyebrow, her lips curling into a smile. "flattering," she teased, leaning back in her chair, taking a sip of her wine. "you're just saying that because you have to, aren't you?"

billie chuckled, her hand coming to rest on the table as she leaned closer, her eyes dark with mischief. "you really think i'd lie to you, vei?" she said, the nickname slipping out like it was second nature. "i'm being totally honest."

valerie smirked, clearly enjoying the teasing. "uh-huh. sure, billie," she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "so, how long have you been practicing your compliments? because they're pretty good."

"you're the one who makes it so easy," billie said, her grin widening. "i mean, look at you. how could i not compliment you?"

valerie couldn't help but laugh, shaking her head. "you're ridiculous."

billie laughed along with her, reaching across the table and gently brushing her fingers over valerie's hand. "but seriously, though," she started, her voice softening for just a moment, "you've been doing so great. i'm really proud of you."

valerie's smile softened at the sincerity in billie's words. "thanks," she said quietly, meeting her gaze. "but seriously, enough about that."

billie's grin returned instantly, and she leaned in, her voice dropping lower. "what? i'm just trying to be sweet for once."

"you're always so sweet," valerie teased. "but right now, you're being extra sweet. you're gonna give me a sugar rush if you keep this shit up."

"that's the idea," billie said with a wink. "i'm just trying to make sure you get your daily dose of me."

valerie laughed, feeling the warmth in her chest spread at the playful remark. "oh, i'm sure i'm getting more than enough of you already," she said, her voice playful and flirtatious.

billie leaned in even closer, her face only inches away from valerie's now. "you say that like it's a bad thing," she whispered, her breath warm against valerie's cheek.

valerie's breath hitched slightly, and she leaned back just enough to catch billie's gaze. "well, maybe i like it too much," she said softly, her tone low and teasing.

"oh, i'm counting on it," billie murmured, her lips curling into a grin. "because the more you like it, the more i get to do this," she added, trailing her fingers lightly across the back of valerie's hand.

valerie shivered, her heart beating a little faster. "you're seriously gonna get me all worked up with just a touch?" she teased, her voice playful but with a hint of something deeper.

billie chuckled softly, clearly enjoying the effect she was having. "i've got skills," she said confidently. "you're just easy to make flustered, vei."

valerie rolled her eyes, but the smile tugging at the corners of her lips betrayed her amusement. "you really think you're the only one who can make the other person flustered?" she shot back, her fingers lightly grazing billie's in return.

"oh, i know i am," billie replied with a wink, sitting back in her chair, but not letting go of valerie's hand. "don't try to deny it, baby."

valerie smirked, trying to keep her composure but failing miserably. "yeah, yeah, i get it," she said, her voice dropping a little in a mix of amusement and flirtation. "but don't get too cocky now."

"why not?" billie asked, leaning back slightly, her eyes twinkling with playful challenge. "i'm just stating facts here."

"sure you are," valerie replied with a laugh, shaking her head.

the night went on, their easy banter continuing as they ate, but the air between them was filled with a tension that neither of them wanted to acknowledge. they were comfortable, so at ease with each other that it felt like no one else existed in the world.

after the meal, billie suggested they go for a walk around the city, and valerie happily agreed. they strolled down the quiet streets, their fingers intertwined as the night wrapped itself around them like a warm blanket.

"you know," billie started, her voice a little quieter now, "i really am proud of you, though. like, for real."

valerie glanced at her, catching the sincerity in billie's eyes. "i know," she said softly, squeezing billie's hand. "thank you for always being here for me."

billie's grin widened as she squeezed back. "of course. always."

they walked for a few more minutes in comfortable silence, just enjoying each other's company, before they ended up at a small park nearby. the night was clear, the moonlight casting soft shadows on the ground as they sat on a bench together, their bodies close but not touching.

billie turned to face valerie, a mischievous glint in her eye. "so, what else do you think i could say to make you blush again?" she asked, her voice playful.

valerie couldn't help but laugh, shaking her head. "you're impossible," she said, leaning her head on billie's shoulder. "but i kind of love that about you."

billie smiled, resting her head against valerie's. "good thing, because i'm not going anywhere, vei."

"i know," valerie whispered, closing her eyes for a moment. "me neither."

as they sat there, the quiet of the night around them, it was clear that their relationship was built on more than just the playful moments. it was the comfort in each other's presence, the easy laughs, and the understanding that no matter what came next, they were already perfect as they were.
