Chapter 287 by Marina Vittori
An Understated Dominance
Dustin never expected to run into Dahlia there. Worse, she was accompanied by another man, and it seemed like those two were on a date.
It irked him for some reason. He had just been captured by the military, his life in danger, but here Dahlia was, carefree and relaxed, as she went on a date with another man. It was clear that Dahlia didnât give a damn about him, and it made him feel like a fool.
âDo you know that lady?â Adam quickly caught onto the change in mood and asked.
âYeah. Sheâs my exâwife.â Dustin answered bluntly.
âYour exâwife?â Adamâs lips twitched. âWhy donât we go somewhere else?â
No one would be happy to see their exâwife happily chatting away with another man,
âForget it. I didnât do anything wrong, so why should I be afraid?â Dustin lifted his glass to his lips and swallowed a mouthful of wine resentfully.
Just then, Dahlia and Luis arrived on the second floor, and the woman immediately spotted the two men. Dustin? What are you doing here?â she exclaimed excitedly.
âWhy canât I be here?â Dustin asked coldly.
âWhen did you get free? Why didnât you tell me? Dahlia dashed toward him and asked joyfully.
âDoes it matter if I tell you?â Dustin glanced at her stoically, stunning Dahlia with his attitude.
âWhatâs wrong? Did you get hurt? Should we go to the hospital?â
âIâm fine, Ms. Nicholson. Thank you for asking. You should focus on your date with your boyfriend instead of me,â Dustin answered.
âBoyfriend?â Dahlia looked at the man standing next to her and quickly explained. âYouâre getting it wrong. Dustin. Weâre just friends.â
âItâs unnecessary for you to explain yourself.â Dustinâs attitude was harsh.
Just friends? Did she think that he was a kid? Since when did normal friends of opposite genders arrive together in the same car for dinner?
âIâm telling you, youâre misunderstanding things, Dustin.â Dahlia gestured to the other man. âLet me introduce you to Mr. Luis Langford. Heâs from Stonia, and he has a good relationship with the military. You got out so quickly thanks to him.â
âIs this the friend you were talking about, Dahlia? Heâs fortunate to have someone like you helping him.â Luis suddenly spoke. Although the man was wearing a smile, the look he was giving Dustin was full of contempt.
âI donât know who Mr. Langford is, nor do I care. He has nothing to do with me getting free anyway.â Dustin responded bluntly.
âHa, arenât you being too cocky?â Luis sniggered, âDo you really think youâd be here right now if I hadnât made a

call to the Balerno Military?â
âI have no idea what you did, but donât think too highly of yourself. I donât need your help.â Dustin retorted coolly.
âDustin! How could you talk to him like this? Shouldnât you be polite to the person who helped you?â Dahlia frowned. She knew that Dustin reacted that way because he was jealous, but he still shouldnât offend Luis, who held a much higher status than him.
âWhen did I ever ask him for help? You guys did this willingly.â Dustin couldnât care less.
âYou-â Dahlia stomped her foot angrily and forced herself to take a deep breath to calm herself. âStop making. a fuss, Dustin.â
âWhat did I do? Was I interrupting your date? If thatâs the case, Iâll leave you two alone right now.â Dustin got up to leave right away.
âWait!â Dahlia instantly grabbed his arm. âWhat on earth is going through your mind? I told you that weâre just friends. Why wonât you believe me?â
