Chapter 1742
When Love Comes Late
Flossie wanted to trust Benny, but she was thinking clearly now.
Did Benny truly care for her as much as he claimed?
Maybe, in his heart, his mother and Evelyn were the only ones who mattered.
Maybe she was just a means to his revenge.
But she hoped he wasnât that heartless.
âI donât care who you are.
Iâve always been with you for you, not because of your identity.
And I donât want to be Edmundâs daughter either.
â Sitting on the edge of the bed, Flossie looked at Benny, speaking slowly, trying to appeal to his emotions.
âPlease, stop.
Donât make any more mistakes.
If you give up now, Iâll talk to Stella and Matthew.
We can move away from Seamarsh and start fresh in another city.
Theyâll agree.
â
âStop! Do you even know what youâre saying? Itâs been hard for me to get where I am.
I wonât give up my revenge on Matthew and the Clark family!â Benny snapped, shaking off Flossieâs hands angrily.
Flossie fell to the floor, groaning, and clutching her abdomen tightly.
Beads of sweat formed on her forehead as if a saw were cutting through her.
The pain was intense.
Noticing Flossieâs distress, Bennyâs expression shifted slightly.
âyihatâs the matter?â
Flossie, looking pale, managed to say weakly, âMy tummy.
It really hurts.
â
Without a second thought, Benny scooped up Flossie and rushed her to the hospital.
Flossie awoke in the hospital ward, alone.
Memories of fainting flooded back.
Quickly, she lifted the covers and checked her stomach.
Thankfully, everything seemed normal.
Relief washed over her as she cradled her slightly protruding belly.
This child was her only lifeline.
The world could betray her, but this child was her anchor.
Haunted by Bennyâs paranoid look, a deep disappointment settled in.
Heâd made a mistake before, and she wouldnât let him hurt Matthew again.
Leaving the ward, Flossie found a nurse to borrow a phone, intending to call Stella.
But before she could dial Stellaâs number, a voice stopped her.
âFlossie? Why are you out of your ward?â
Her back stiffened, rooted to the spot.
Benny stood beside her, his grip on her shoulder strangely unsettling.
His sideways glance felt invasive.
âYouâre hurt.
Donât leave the ward.
â
His voice was soft, but the mere sound of it sent jitters all over Flossieâs body.
His dark eyes locked onto hers.
Her heart nearly stopped beating.
