Chapter 583
Trading My Ex for His Uncle
Hugh stiffened for a moment before his expression turned furious.
âWhat weâre discussing is how youâll do anything to get back into the Raynor Group. I asked you to leave because youâre jeopardizing the companyâs interests for a woman. I wonât tolerate that!â he barked.
Oliver nodded, his gaze cold. âIsnât it because you want Fred to take my place and use me as a stepping stone?â
Hugh shot up from his seat. âWhat nonsense are you talking about?!â
His face was flushed with rage, but Oliver noticed a flicker of guilt in his eyes.
âWhether Iâm talking nonsense or not, we both know the truth. I just want to understand why youâre paving the way for Fred at my expense,â Oliver said calmly.
âThatâs enough!â Hugh slammed his hand on the table, shouting, âI donât want to argue about this useless stuff! Youâll get your position back, but Iâm very disappointed in you!â
Meeting Hughâs enraged gaze, Oliver chuckled. âDad, Iâve been disappointed in you too.â
With that, he turned and left.
Back in his room, Oliver immediately called Liam.
âWhatâs going on with the Keithstone Group? Didnât they say the Raynor Group wasnât under consideration? Why are they suddenly interested in collaborating, and why are they insisting that I must be the CEO for the contract to go through?â he asked.
Liamâs voice held the same confusion. âMr. Raynor, Iâm not sure about the details yet, but Iâm investigating. Iâll get back to you as soon as I find out.â
âOkay,â Oliver replied.
Less than an hour later, Liam called back with an update. âMr. Raynor, Iâve looked into it. It seems Ms. Kinsey has a connection with the Keithstone Groupâs CEO. She reached out to Ms. Keith, and th give the project to the Raynor Group.â
Oliver tightened his grip on the phone. âGot it. Thanks.â
After hanging up, he thought about calling Nyla but decided it would be better to see her in person the next day to get the full story.
Oliver smiled. Even if Nyla hadnât helped him, he had other ways to return to the Raynor Group. Still, it felt nice to think she cared. At least now, Nyla wo The next morning, Nyla ran into Regina and Kayden while dropping Mason off at school.
Regina, who had been so arrogant the day before, looked haggard. Her eyes were red and swollen, a clear sign she hadnât slept well.
Nyla had no intention of greeting her. After reminding Mason to call her on his watch if anything happened, she turned to leave..
Just as she was about to go, she heard Regina call out, âMs⦠Ms. Kinsey, please wait a moment.â
Surprised, Nyla turned back.
âIs there something you need?â she asked. â
Regina approached, her face full of guilt. âMs. Kinsey, what happened yesterday was mine and Kaydenâs fault. After I got home, I thought it over and had a talk with Kayden. He wonât speak out of turn again, and I hope you can forgive us.â
The night before, Noah had a huge argument with Regina. He had warned her that if the situation wasnât handled properly, he would definitely lose his job, and the whole family would suffer the consequences. When Regina learned Mason was Damonâs son, she instantly regretted her actions.
Damon was not someone they could afford to offend. If they angered him, it wouldnât just be about Noah losing his jobâ
it could be a matter of life and death.
Although Regina wasnât highly educated and had a fiery personality, she understood the gravity of her choices.
