Chapter 1212
The Day I Kissed An Older Man
Meanwhile, in Xanteâs office.
Corinne sat at Xanteâs desk. She looked through financial reports for the past six months and the latest
project status updates.
Xante had ordered a cup of warm milk for her, and she took it to Corinne after getting it from her
secretary. âHere, drink this. The reports can wait.â
âOkay. Thanks.â Corinneâs eyes never left the computer screen while she sipped her milk.
At that moment, Xanteâs phone rang, so she walked off a little distance to pick it up. Her expression
was riddled with mixed feelings after she hung up. âUmm⦠Boss?â
Corinne kept her eyes on the computer screen. âYes? Speak!â
Xante pushed up her gold-rimmed glasses. âSomeone from Holden Group just called.â
âAnd what did that person say?â
âThe person in charge said that Mister Jeremy is very happy with the building weâve designed and built,
so theyâd like to work on a project with us again. They have a new project in Southbank and would like
us to take over the construction, so he called to ask for a meeting.â
Corinne looked up at Xante. âWhat do you think?âBooks Chapters Are Daily Updated Join & Stay

Xante thought this was out of character for the company. Most of the time construction companies
would have to fight with each other to get projects from Holden Group; rarely would the company
bypass the tendering process to deliver an order like this to a construction company.
Especially not when Jeremy had found out about Corinneâs other identity.
Thus, Xante naturally thought that this could be a trap. âI think we should just decline.â
Corinne smiled. âWe should take the project. I mean, it is money.â
Xante was a little taken aback. âBoss, are you sure about this?â
Corinne let go of the computer house, leaned back comfortably against the chair, and took a slow sip of
her warm milk.
âItâs not about whether Iâm sure or not. Holden Group isnât really giving us a choice, right? Even if we
turn down this project, theyâll just throw us another project. And even if we turn down all the projects
they throw at us, whatâs not to say theyâll hire us through a third-party company? If you think about it,
theyâre showing us their hands by contacting us directly, so letâs take them up on the offer. Weâll see
what to do from there.â
Xante thought about what Corinne said. âSheâs right. That Jeremy isnât an easy person to deal with.â
âI get it now. Iâll set up a meeting time with the person in charge and see just exactly what they want.â
Corinne continued to drink her milk while thinking of her next steps. If given a choice, she would not
have taken this route to go against Jeremy, but since he made the first move, there was no use hiding
from him anymore.
âJeremy knows Xante, Aaron, and this company are the people and things I care the most about, so
heâll try to take them away from me first,â thought Corinne. âOh well, letâs see just what heâs trying to
pull.â
Xante walked off to the side to make a call to the person in charge when someone knocked on the
office door twice.
Corinne thought it was one of the employees who had come to deliver some files. Without thinking, she
told them to come in.
