Chapter 553
Between Ruin And Resolve: My Ex-Husband’s Regret
Chapter 553:
Would he place his trust in Alex?
âMommy!â Averiâs sweet voice pierced her reverie. She turned to see him at the entrance to the living room, his large eyes brimming with curiosity.
Instantly, her heart warmed.
She approached and crouched to his level, asking softly, âWhatâs up, sweetheart?â
âMommy, what were you and Mr. Wall talking about? You were in there for a long time,â Averi inquired, his head tilted inquisitively, gently pulling at Sadieâs sleeve.
âWe were just discussing some work things, nothing for you to worry about,â Sadie reassured him, patting his head as she smiled.
âSee?â Averi replied, his understanding partial.
His expression then brightened with excitement. âMommy, I have good news! Great-grandma is back.â
âGreat-grandma?â Sadie echoed, startled, her eyes immediately filling with tears.
Her grandmother!
It had been so long since she had seen her.
Since her kidnapping, she had lost contact with Laura. The worry had tormented Sadie, keeping her awake at night, yet she hesitated to inquire, fearing the worst.
âYes, Mommy!â Averi beamed, waving his little hands. âBreck said Great-grandma wasnât feeling well a while ago, so he took her to the hospital. Now sheâs better and back home.â
Sadie was overwhelmed by emotion, her tears streaming down her cheeks.
She quickly stood and dashed toward the door.
âMrs. Wall, youâ¦â Breck began, startled by Sadieâs emotional state, but she was already past him, driven by an urgent need to see her grandmother.
At the villaâs entrance, a beloved figure stood, smiling warmly and waving.
It was her grandmother, the woman who had raised her and cherished her dearly.
âGrandma!â Sadie cried out, running into her grandmotherâs open arms.
âOh, my dear child! Why are you crying like this?â Laura gently stroked Sadieâs back with concern. âHas someone upset you? Tell Grandma, and Iâll take care of it.â
Clutching Laura tightly, Sadie let her tears flow unrestrained. She hadnât wept so deeply, even during the torment at the hands of those thugs or in her darkest moments of survival.
Her deepest fear had always been harm coming to Laura, not her own suffering.
âGrandma, Iâm fineâ¦â Sadie managed to say between sobs. âI just⦠missed you so muchâ¦â
âSilly girl! Am I not right here with you? Look, Iâm perfectly fine, arenât I?â Laura soothed her, tenderly wiping away her tears. âStop crying now, or youâll ruin your beautiful face.â
Despite her efforts, Sadie found it impossible to stem the flow of tears.
âGrandmaâ¦â she choked out, her voice breaking. âWhere have you been all this time? I was so worriedâ¦â
âIt was just my old condition flaring up again. I had to stay in the hospital for a little while,â Laura explained lightly, trying to reassure her. âSee? Iâm back and better now. Donât worry, okay?â
Knowing Laura was minimizing her own troubles to spare her worry only deepened Sadieâs emotional pain.
âGrandma, Iâm sorryâ¦â Sadie whispered, her voice laden with regret and relief.
âSilly child, what are you apologizing for?â Laura gently stroked Sadieâs hair, speaking with warmth. âI never blame you. As long as youâre well, Iâm at ease.â
