âFrederick, let me make one thing clearâI came back to help, not to be your subordinate!â Shane declared with a straight face. âOf course, Iâll do my part, but weâre still equals.â
âOh, come on! This is not the time for your nonsense,â Frederick replied, rolling his eyes. âWill you do it or not?â
âAlright, alright! Iâll do it!â Shane grumbled, turning to relay the message. But then he hesitated and asked, âBy the way, whereâs Ms. Beatrix? Is she not tagging along to Zovince to watch the chaos unfold? Thatâs not like her at all.â
Frederick shot him a warning glare. âDonât ask about things that arenât your business. Just go do what I told you to do, or Iâll find someone else to do it.â
âAlright, alright! Geez!â Shane huffed in annoyance before heading into the Quillen residence to notify the assembled Nuthana representatives. However, as soon as he stepped inside, something felt off.
He had been away in Eldoria for a while, sure, but it wasnât that long. Yet, looking around at the gathered representatives, he didnât recognize a single one.
âOh, whatever. Not my problem.â Shane shrugged off the uneasy feeling, recalling Frederickâs warningânot to ask unnecessary questions. He just had to do the job.
Soon, two large buses departed for the airport, set to board a private flight to Zovince.
For security, the convoy was escorted by military vehicles with armed soldiers.
But, as expected, trouble found them.
Just as the convoy reached the airport expressway, a sudden car accident ahead blocked their path completely.
âWhatâs going on?â Terence Quillen asked sharply as the vehicles screeched to a halt.
âOld Mr. Quillen, there was a suspicious crash up ahead,â Frederick reported in a hushed tone. âI think someone staged this to trap us here.â
Terence nodded but remained calm. âIf the enemy doesnât make their move, neither do we. We still have timeâletâs wait them out.â
Frederick agreed. There was no reason to panic before the enemy even showed themselves.
But soon, a wave of cars stormed down the highway behind them. Armed men leaped out, charging toward the buses with guns drawn.
âHelp! Somebody help!â
âGunmen!â
Other motorists, caught in the jam, screamed in terror. Whether or not they were the intended targets, they abandoned their cars and ran.
âOpen fire! Take them down!â

With the Wolf Warrior Unit providing cover, the assassins couldnât get anywhere near the buses. But then- two figures, one clad in red and the other in blue, suddenly darted in from the side, using the distraction to their advantage.
Their goal was simpleâget inside the buses and kill just a handful of key representatives. That would be enough to shift the election in their employerâs favor.
However, Eve was no amateur. As a battleâhardened commander, she had anticipated such a move. Without hesitation, she grabbed a machine gun and unleashed a barrage of bullets to cut off their advance.
âD*mn it!â
Aora and Azureâboth deadly martial artistsâcould fight swords and fists all day, but even they werenât immune to bullets.
With the Wolf Warrior Unit surrounding them and gunfire raining down, the two assassins had no choice but to retreat.
âRam through them!â Eve ordered the lead military vehicle to plow through the wreckage, blocking their
way.
A staged accident could stop civilian traffic, but it wouldnât stop an armored vehicle.
âMove out!â Frederick commanded the bus drivers, getting everyone away from the ambush site.
As the convoy sped off, Terence casually rolled down his window. From a safe distance, he waved at Aora and Azure with a wide grin. âSee you in Zovince!â
âD*mn that old man!â
Aoraâs lips twitched in frustration as he clenched his jaw. Without wasting another second, he barked at Azure, âForget this fight! Catch up to those buses!â
âYes, sir!â
Azure understood the urgency. If Terence and the representatives managed to board the plane, there would be no stopping them from reaching Zovince. After all, they hadnât planned for a hijacking.
Still, Azure couldnât help but smirk. âThereâs no need to go all out, Aora. Those buses are doomed, one way or another.â
Aora slowed his pace slightly, intrigued. âYou got something else up your sleeve?â
âOf course,â Azure grinned confidently. âMr. Verkade set everything up in advance. Donât forget, heâs a Yeringham native. He knows the terrain like the back of his hand and understands how Terence thinks. He predicted that old fox would try to arrive in Zovince ahead of schedule.â
âGo on,â Aora urged impatiently.
âLook up at that mountain ridge,â Azure said, pointing ahead.
Aora followed his gazeâand immediately gasped.

Even from a distance, with his trained eyes, he could see the ambush set up along the ridge. Dozens of armed men were in position⦠and worse, he spotted missile launchers primed and ready.
âHoly sh*t! This is brutal!â Aora exclaimed in shock before breaking into laughter.
Setting up an ambush of this scale required serious firepower, connections, and financial backing. Then again, considering this was a battle over national power, nothing should have been surprising.
Azure, still smug, explained, âAs long as the Quillen convoy keeps heading toward the airport, once they enter the strike zone, Mr. Verkadeâs forces will blow them to hell.â
âHah! Brilliant!â Aora slapped his thigh in excitement. âNuthana is Lowe and Quillenâs stronghold. If we wipe out their entire faction here, theyâll have no foundation left. Theyâll have nothing against Mr. Tanner!â
âExactly!â Azure grinned. âThis election will be over before it starts. Once Mr. Tanner secures his reelection, his wife will ascend to the presidency. With the entire country in their hands, wiping out Mackenzie and her people will be childâs play.â
âHahaha!â Aora laughed maniacally. âWhen that happens, Iâll make sure to personally rip Mackenzie Quillen apart limb by limb! That b*tch will pay for Amethyst and Ash!â
He clenched his fists tightly, his bloodshot eyes gleaming with deepâseated hatred.
Meanwhile, atop the mountain ridge, a heavily armed mercenary unit stood in formation.
These were no ordinary fighters but highly trained, wellâequipped, and disciplinedâan elite foreign mercenary corps that Teddy had been financing overseas for years.
Bringing them into the country had required careful preparation, a tremendous amount of money, and the right connections to bypass authorities.
Aora and Azureâs assault had only been meant to herd Terence and his people into the kill zoneâforcing them into a desperate rush toward the airport and straight into the mercenariesâ trap.
Now, they were close.
