Chapter 131
Love Unbreakable by Bank Brook
? ? ? ? ?
Mitchel's imposing structure suddenly swayed.
The idea that Raegan, always as docile as a delicate white rabbit, could utter words that crushed his soul was beyond his imagination.
The light in Mitchel's eyes went out as he asked, his voice heavy with sadness: "Do you hate me that much?"
Raegan's face was a mask of apathy.
«During my kidnapping, I hated you deeply. The only thing I could think was that if you hadn't left me in the hospital parking lot, maybe they wouldn't have kidnapped me. But the 'ifs' are of no use. I realize that if you had another chance, you would still prioritize saving Laurenâ¦â
"That's not true," Mitchel protested.
A sharp pang gripped his heart, and his throat seemed to be filled with broken glass, leaving a metallic taste in his mouth.
He reached out to caress Raegan's forehead, but she deftly avoided his touch.
«Don't fool yourself. "You can't let her go."
Mitchel's voice, raw and strained, tried to explain: Raegan, you've got it all wrong. I had really intended to send Lauren away, but I had promised to accompany her abroad until her operation was finished, and then we . .
"Mitchel!" Raegan cut him off sharply, pain etched into her voice.
«You made promises to me too! You made me believe that we would come home together. What happened to that promise?
Feeling as if an enormous weight was pressing on his chest, Mitchel tried to speak, but the words failed him, he lost his voice.
"Have you ever imagined what it feels like to have your skull smashed against a wall and your insides crushed?"
Mitchel's voice trembled, his pale face visibly agitated.
"Forâ¦
Don't say anything else..."
But Raegan seemed lost in her torment, gesturing at the bandage on her head, her lips trembling as she relived the terror.
«They hit my head against the wall, they trampled me. I felt like my body was falling apart and my unborn child was slipping away. At that moment, my hatred towards you consumed me completely. It was you who made me believe in you. But once again, you abandoned me.
As Raegan recounted the horror, despair came over her again.
Enduring the loss of her son was like enduring relentless torment.
The anguish in his heart was like salt in an open wound, his body trembling uncontrollably.
Every word Raegan said hit Mitchel as if he were experiencing the pain firsthand.
When he spoke of "believing in you," those words pierced Mitchel's heart like icy daggers, causing him unbearable agony.
It was his own actions that had shattered his confidenceâ¦
The torment was evident on Mitchel's face, but to Raegan it seemed insignificant compared to her own ordeal.
That day I wanted to trust you again. But that stupid thought cost me my son and threw me into hell. You taught me that although one can have dreams, illusions are dangerous.
Her faith in his promise to return home together had taken a horrible toll.
Mitchel's strength was waning, his once upright posture collapsing. His dark eyes were filled with indescribable agony.
"I'm sorry, Raegan... I'm so sorry..."
He knew his endless apologies could never undo the damage he had caused Raegan, but feeling was all he could muster.
If he had foreseen such a tragic outcome, he would never have separated from her, regardless of the circumstances.
âNo need,â Raegan coldly rejected his belated apology, finding it more repulsive than any insincere affection.
«Now, I can't even muster hatred towards you. If you have any fault, let's get divorced. From then on, we will be nothing more than strangers,â he said, his voice devoid of any emotional nuance.
His indifference was so deep that he seemed to lack love or hate.
A sudden panic gripped Mitchel and his heart skipped a beat.
Didn't he even hate him? Did she really mean to treat him like a stranger?
No! It shouldn't be like this.
She had feelings for him. Nicole had confirmed it.
Desperate, he clung to her arms, pleading, âRaegan, you care about me.
Nicole said you did it once. Please don't give up on our relationship so easily.
Raegan looked at his haggard but still charming face and gave a weak smile.
«Once, I foolishly worried about you, only to realize my mistake. I shouldn't have fought with Lauren for your affection. My punishment was not long in coming. Losing my grandmother, then my baby. If this continues, I will lose my life!
His words hit Mitchel like a hard blow, his body reeling in pain.
Ignoring her resistance, he wrapped her in a tight hug, his voice rough with emotion.
«My feelings for Lauren are mere responsibility, nothing romantic. "You're the only one I can't lose."
But his regrets came too late.
Raegan's heart had turned icy, beyond thawing.
He couldn't resist, so he demanded angrily: "Let go of me!"
"No! I won't let you go! Mitchel declared, his voice shaking.
Releasing Raegan meant possibly losing her forever.
«It's all my fault. If you want one child, we will have another, as many as you want.
I will take care of all of you.
Bowing her head, Raegan sank her teeth into his arm with a fierce tremor.
The audacity of his mention of having another baby left her in disbelief.
With the metallic taste of blood in his mouth, he bit down harder, holding on until exhaustion overcame his resolve and he finally released the bite.
Mitchel's shirt, previously white, now had the raw stain of blood, but he seemed not to notice, with his unbreakable embrace.
A storm of resentment broke out in Raegan's eyes.
"Mitchel, do you deserve this?" he challenged.
Hatred permeated every word he spoke.
Their accusations struck Mitchel, not with the sting of hatred, but with deep pain for their suffering.
In a heavy voice, he declared, "Raegan, do whatever you want, but leaving me is not an option."
The mere idea of ââhis absence oppressed his heart like an invisible force that stole his breath.
He decided not to let her go, willing to stoop to the lowest point to keep her close.
Raegan, exhausted, didn't bother using another bite to free herself from his embrace. She just stared at his shoulder and stated firmly, "Mitchel, divorce is inevitable."
"No! We won't do it! Mitchel replied, his response instinctive, without a hint of hesitation.
His embrace softened as she leaned into him. Thinking he had given in, he whispered, âRaegan, please stay by my side. You can do whatever you want. But don't go..."
Raegan remained silent, but Mitchel's heart filled with hope, convinced that time would convince her.
He couldn't let Raegan go. Never in this life. With this thought in mind, he squeezed harder, only to feel the moisture seep through his shirt, stained with the pungent smell of rust.
Releasing it, he found his white shirt, now stained with the red of Raegan's reopened wound.
Time seemed to freeze.
His mind went blank, empty of thoughts.
The next moment, panic took over him.
"Doctor!" he shouted, frantically pressing the call button, his voice edged with loss of control.
