Chapter 265
Spoiled by the President
The Jones family.
The Jones family mansion was brightly lit.
Old Madam Jones was seated on the sofa in the living room with a huge smile on her face, while Mr. Garrett sat opposite her. He displayed a businesslike expression.
âRest assured, Mr. Garrett! Iâll treat whatever you have ordered as my personal matter and take care of it.â
Joseph Garrett smiled. âOf course I trust you, Old Madam Jones. Weâve been investigating this issue for so many years, and weâve only found out that the child had most probably been brought to Jincheng by a human trafficker back then. The rest of the clues are lost. Our searches were fruitless, thus we could only rely on others. When it comes to finding people in Jincheng, the Jones familyâs services are second to none.
âIâve personally come to Jincheng this time to attend to this matter. However, itâs still a private matter of the Garrett family, so I hope youâll keep this a secret.
âMy father has been ill for quite a while, and currently, his greatest wish is to locate the child. Therefore, regardless of whether you can find the child or not, please let me know as soon as possible. Once I have verified everything, I will relay the information to him, lest he gets excited for nothing.â
Old Madam Jones nodded.
âNaturally. Donât worry, Mr. Garrett. If there are any updates, Iâll be sure to inform you.â
âIn that case, thank you very much, Old Madam. This is the childâs photo, but it was taken when she was only a few months old, so itâll hardly be of any use now.â
Joseph handed an old, yellowed photo to her with a disappointed look on his face.
Old Madam Jones took the photo and scrutinized it.
Although the yellowed photo was taken more than ten years ago, it was still in good condition.
One could tell that the owner of this photo treasured it very much.
Old Madam looked at it and chuckled.
âHonestly, most children look alike, but this child has rather fine features. Judging by this photo, she looks similar to Nelly when she was young.â
A middle-aged man beside her interrupted, âMom, have you forgotten? Nell has parents. Years ago, when Cathy Morrison was pregnant with Nell, we visited her at her home. How could she be related to Ms. Garrett?â
Old Madam Jones laughed. âYes, yes, it was just a quip.â
However, Joseph took an interest in her remark.
âAre you referring to the Ms. Jennings who sang for us at Xianshui Pavilion?â
Old Madam Jones nodded. âThatâs her.â
Joseph grinned. âActually, when I first laid eyes on her, I thought that she looked a lot like Annie, and Iâm not talking about her appearance. It was her charisma and the vibe she gave off with her gaze. How old is she?â
âTwenty-five, I think!â
âTwenty-five?â Joseph raised his eyebrows.
If Annie was still alive, she would most likely be twenty-four or twenty-five.
All of a sudden, he became emotional. âDid you just say that her motherâs name is Cathy Morrison? Did all of you witness Cathy giving birth to her with your own eyes?â
Old Madam Jones was puzzled.
That time, she was not in Jincheng and did not witness the birth. She only visited Cathy when she was pregnant and held her baby after the delivery.
Old Madam was at a loss for words.
As she hesitated, a voice appeared at the doorway. âOf course, I witnessed it myself.â
Everyone looked towards the doorway and saw a middle-aged woman coming towards them.
Old Madam introduced her, âOh, let me introduce you to my daughter-in-law, Francesca Connors. Fran, this is the Second Old Master of the capital cityâs Garrett family. You may address him as Mr. Garrett.â
Francesca greeted him.
Joseph asked her hastily, âDid you witness the birth with your own eyes?â
Francesca returned a wan smile. âYes, Cathyâs mother passed away at a young age. When Cathy was in labor, she had no close female friends to rely on. As we are family friends, and I had a child two years earlier than her, I decided to head over and I guarantee that Nell is Cathyâs daughter.â
Joseph saw how earnest she seemed and felt disappointed.
On the contrary, Old Madam Jones became doubtful.
When Cathy delivered the baby, Old Madam Jones happened to be out of town and could not visit her, but she did send her caretaker to check on Cathy. She did not recall Francesca ever mentioning that she visited Cathy.
Did she forget about it, or did Francesca visit her in secret?
Despite her doubts, she still believed that her daughter-in-law would not lie to her about important matters like these.
Thus, she kept quiet.
Joseph realized that his excitement was in vain and was obviously downcast. They chatted for a little longer before he was sent off.
After his departure, Old Madam Jones called Francesca and asked, âFran, did you really attend to Cathyâs birth?â
There was a slight shift in Francescaâs gaze.
She grinned. âYes, I did attend to it. I canât lie about this, can I? However, I was in a rush back then, and the family chauffeur hadnât returned, so I called a cab.â
Old Madam Jones listened to her answer and nodded.
No wonder she was uninformed about it. Francesca did not utilize the services of the family chauffeur.
Old Madam Jones contemplated while ascending the stairs, while Francesca stood behind her with a lowered gaze and a mysterious look in her eyes.
...
It was noon and Nell realized that it was about time. Gideon should arrive at any moment. So, she packed up her belongings and headed to the airport.
Nonetheless, before she reached the airport, she received a text from her husband.
He told her that the flight was delayed and he would only arrive two hours later.
This was totally unexpected, but since Nell had left the house, it would be troublesome to head back again.
Luckily, there was a modern square near the airport, thus she decided to kill some time there.
It was already 12:00 pm and time for lunch.
Originally, Nell planned to have lunch with Gideon after picking him up, but things have changed now.
Therefore, she looked for a restaurant to dine at.
However, when she made up her mind and was about to head inside one of the restaurants, she bumped into a man at the doorway.
Mr. Garrett? What was he doing here?
Joseph did not expect to meet her here either. He smiled. âEh, Ms. Jennings, here for lunch?â
Nell returned a smile and nodded. âYeah, you too?â
âYes, Iâm about to catch a flight back to the capital city. Itâs lunch hour now and I decided to have something to eat as I have time.â
Nell nodded. They were silent for a while. She had no idea what else to say and was prepared to leave.
Suddenly, Joseph asked her, âAre you alone, Ms. Jennings?â
Nell answered, âYes.â
âIâm also alone. If you donât mind, Ms. Jennings, we can have lunch together.â
Nell felt a bit awkward. âWonât... Wonât I disturb you?â
âNot at all. A good thing, too. I didnât get the chance to thank you when you sang for me last time. How about this? Lunch is on me.â
Nell was shy and wanted to decline his offer.
Joseph added hurriedly, âItâs a bit of a bore to dine alone. If you donât mind, we can keep each other company.â
Since he said that, declining him would be rather rude.

Thus, Nell gave it a thought and replied, âAlright.â
