Chapter 445
Spoiled by the President
As soon as the host muted his mic, there was a commotion in the crowd.
The host was pleased and said, âBefore the bidding begins, letâs welcome Young Master Moore to say a few words.â
The stage lights suddenly dimmed, and when it lit up again, there was an extra person on stage.
Harvey Moore wore a black suit and looked dazzling under the white spotlight. His handsome features hid his usual hostility, which made him look elegant. As soon as he appeared on stage, his good looks stirred up some squeals amongst the lady guests.
Janet also had to admit that even she was captivated by his charm.
Harvey Mooreâs mellow voice resonated through the speaker and echoed through the vast auction hall. It was intimate yet unfamiliar.
âFirst, I would like to thank everyone for joining this charity auction. I can clearly see your passion and enthusiasm for charity. To be honest, by offering up this house, I was merely presenting the Buddha with borrowed flowers, so I feel quite abashed from getting everyoneâs compliments.
âEveryone knows that the old mansion is my Third Grandfatherâs ancestral home. Many of you might not understand why I decided to auction off my grandfatherâs ancestral home and might think of me as an unfilial descendant. Nevertheless, I would like to add that true heritage comes not from material items, but from remembering our ancestorâs mottos, which is knowing how to be courteous and knowing when to contribute back to society!
âPerhaps you might not know that long ago, I was a kid with autism. At that time, I lived in an orphanage near the capital. My days went by as if I were a machine. It was truly hopeless. It wasnât until Third Grandfather came for an inspection of the orphanage and adopted me that my life had a sliver of hope.â
He paused as if he was thinking about the past. His voice turned deep.
Shortly after, he continued, âBecause of this, I hope that I will have the chance to help more people ä¸ to help those autistic kids who were like me back then. I want to let them know that there are people out there who care for them. At the same time, I would also like for them to understand that even though we were born with a disability, as long as you work hard, you can also usher in spring!â
After his speech, the auction hall was filled with resounding applause.
Everyone in the audience was moved by his words.
Janet sat in the corner and reached out to touch her face which was wet with tears.
She laughed sarcastically and wiped away her tears.
âThank you for speaking, Young Master Moore. As they say, listening to a great speech is better than reading 10 years worth of books!â
The host got back on the stage and continued onto the next agenda.
âNow, we will begin the bidding of this old mansion. Located at the foot of Anshan, the view is remarkable and can be used as a vacation home. The starting price is 5 million, with a minimum increase of 50,000 per bid. The bidding starts now!â
As soon as the mic was muted, someone started bidding.
â5.2 million!â
â5.3 million!â
â5.5 million!â
â5.6 million!â
â5.65 million!â
It can be seen that everyone knew that the house had no commercial value, so the bids are very low.
Suddenly, a cold feminine voice emerged from the corner of the room.
â6 million!â
Nobody noticed that someone was sitting in the corner of the last row and everyone could not help but turn back to have a look. However, with the dim lights, they could only make out a small vague figure. The body was slim and judging by the sound of her voice, she must be very young.
Immediately, someone bid, â6.2 million!â
â7 million!â The girl in the corner said decisively.
â7.2 million!â
Janet continued shouting, â8 million!â
At this time, a young girl sitting in the front row pressed on the call button.
â10 million!â
Janet stood up angrily and her eyes tightened.
The hall was dark but from where she was standing, she could see the side view of a pretty girl with big wavy hair. Her curled up lips exuded confidence. Even when she was seated in a crowd, she was still outstanding and her elitist aura could not be hidden.
Luna Graham?
Graham Corporationâs precious daughter!
Janet tightened her lips and pressed the call button.
â10.5 million!â
The crowd was in a commotion once again, as this bid was already way over the market value of this old mansion.
Luna Graham turned around and looked towards Janet.
She pressed on, â10.7 million!â
Janet clenched her fists.
Ulric Hancock had given her 8.6 million. Adding up Nellâs 2 million and her personal savings, she only had 10.9 million!
As the daughter of the Graham Corporation, Luna Graham would be backed by mountains of cash. How could she compare!
She frowned and asked an attendant for a pen. Janet wrote a short message on a piece of paper and asked the attendant to pass it onto Luna.
The hall was quiet as everyone was waiting to see if there were any more bidders. Everyone was clear that probably nobody would increase the bid for this old house.
The host also had the same thoughts and announced, â10.7 million going once! 10.7 million going twice...â
âWait!â
Janet shouted and bit down. â10.9 million!â
Everyone in the hall turned around and looked at her.
Luna curled her lips, smiled at her friend, turned around, and gave up on the bid.
â10.9 million going once! 10.9 million going twice! 10.9 million going thrice! Sold!â
Janet finally let out a sigh of relief!
After the auction ended, the dinner banquet began. Janet got what she wanted and did not have to heart to linger around, so she got up to leave.
She saw Luna Graham walking towards her.
Janet smiled and watched as Luna walked over and extended her hand.
âCongratulations! You won!â
Luna Graham was 25 years old and was part of a new generation of idols in the showbiz. The relationship between both stars was quite good, but since they did not have many projects together, they did not interact much.
She extended her hand and Janet shook it lightly. Janet was grateful and said, âThanks for earlier.â
Luna smiled. âYou donât have to thank me. Our family is in business, so Iâm also a businesswoman by nature. The price for that old mansion was way too high. Even without your note, I wouldnât have continued bidding!â
Janet did not know how truthful her words were, so she nodded.
âIâve heard rumors that Ms. Graham was business-minded. You sure live up to the name!â
The two humbly exchanged a few words when she noticed that Harvey Moore walked up next to Luna Graham.
When he saw Janet, he was surprised.
He had to admit that Janet was extremely beautiful. She was a different kind of beauty compared to Luna Graham.
Luna Graham was graceful and had the etiquette of a noble lady. One could tell that she was of elite birth at a glance.
Janet was completely different. She was pure and cold, like a lotus blooming on a quiet night. Her deep eyes appeared more calm and mysterious, which could easily arouse a manâs desire to explore them.
âLuna, this is...?â
Luna smiled and replied, âThis is Ms. Janet Hancock.â

Harvey Moore vaguely recalled an old memory and smiled instantly.
âAh! Itâs you! Hello, my name is Harvey Moore.â
