Chapter 74
Spoiled by the President
Nell made a face of sudden realization.
âOh, so you do know about this role too!â
Duh! How would she not know about the role she spent a month fighting for but to no fruition?
However, Nell seemed to have her mind set on playing dumb and there was nothing Celine could do about it.
Taking a deep breath, Celine spoke with a gruff, âThis is a role that demands great acting skills. The newbies under you do not equal to the task, you know better than I. Why bother putting yourself to shame?
Nell smiled.
âWeâll only know if Iâm putting myself to shame after trying, no?â
She paused and turned to Celine. The twinkle in her eyes was dripping with sarcasm.
âThough, I did hear that a certain somebody had been fighting for the role to no avail, yet still clinging on somehow. Sounds more like bringing disgrace upon themselves, donât you think?â
âYou!â
Unable to keep her cool, Celineâs face turned sour.
She could put up with Nell stealing the supporting actress role in âHidden River: Ashleyâ.
However, here she was, stealing yet another role in âChasing Windâ!
Did Nell want to steal everything she had her eye on?
Celine had the feeling as though she was made the target to be pitted against. Gawping at the faint smile on Nellâs apathetic face, Celine swallowed her anger.
Squeezing a fake smile, she croaked, âWell, since youâre refusing to take my advice, weâll see who takes home the crown!â
The chance slipped through her fingers the last time due to Miaâs lack of commitment.
This time, she attended to the matter herself, was she going to be outshone again?
What a joke!
Eric may be fond of putting newbies into his roles, but he still had to take the box office into account!
She had a huge fan base and quite the celebrity status after all. Although she had a great following, she did not have anything worthwhile to show for.
Thus, Celine was in urgent need of a reputable box office hit to be attached to her name. Otherwise, she would never land herself in such a lowly position just for a role!
Due to the film being shot in the male leadâs perspective, the workload for the female roles did not carry much weight. The female lead was an elderly figure, as such a middle-aged film star had been cast.
Hence, the choice left was the male leadâs sister, the supporting female role.
It might only be a supporting role, but this was ultimately Eric Freemanâs production. It was enough for an influencer like her to bask in the glory.
Moreover, this role, whether in terms of age or bearing, was most compatible with her.
Therefore, Celine was confident that it was in the bag.
Nell kept quiet even though she was aware of what was on Celineâs mind. She turned away to excuse herself when a male voice was heard coming from her back.
âNell?â
She turned to see Jason walking this way.
âBrother Jay.â
With her face dancing with joy, Celine advanced forth to hold him by the arm and spoke in a soft voice, âYouâre here.â
Jason glanced at her before nodding. âYes, I just finished a discussion with a friend. What were you talking about?â
It was not as though he did not smell the gunpowder in the air. He was no stranger to the discord between Celine and Nell.
Hence, he merely made a passing comment.
To his surprise, Lily began to run her mouth before Celine could say anything. âYoung Master Morton, you must back Celine up. Nell crossed the line!
Forget her trying to steal Celineâs role, she sent Director Freeman away when she saw us coming, afraid that Celine would have another word with him. God knows what she is trying to achieve.â
Celine forced a smile. âLily, donât say it that way. It was not sister... sisterâs intention.â
Not her intention?
Meaning to say, Nell may be guilty for sending Eric away to prevent them both from having an exchange!
Nell threw a meaningful look at Jason and true enough, his face clouded up.
Staring at Nell with a furrow between his arched brows, he spoke in a gruff, âNell Jennings, Celine had been studying the role of Amelia and is in love with the character. Donât you steal it from her.â
Nell scoffed.
âJason Morton, what makes you think Iâll listen to you?â
Jason paused.
Indeed, Nell had no obligation to hang on his words.
However, she was completely under his thumb in the six years that they were together. She took his word for it and never refuted.
Thus, his subconscious took it as a given that she would comply.
The atmosphere lingered with an air of unpleasantness.
A girl who came with Celine coldly snorted. âWho do you think you are? Celine never fussed over you. Do you think that Director Freeman would even pay an ounce of attention to you for the disgrace you brought upon five years ago?â
As discoloration wiped her face, Celine muttered, âDonât bring that up.â
Nevertheless, the girl unhappily retorted, âWhy canât I? Itâs the truth! For anything you set your eyes upon, sheâll stop at nothing to take it away from you!
âIt was the same five years ago. She couldnât get into the Royal Academy of Arts, so she stole your art. Only you would take her side for a piece of trash who turns her back against her sister for her benefit.
âIf I have a say in it, Iâd let everyone know what she has done, let them see her for her true self before theyâre deceived by her looks!â
âEm! Stop it!â
Spoiled by the President ï¤Chapter 73 Gifted Director Murmurs of discussion filled the room.
âWhat happened five years ago? What does it have to do with the Royal Academy of Arts?â
âDonât you know? Theyâre sisters. Itâs said that five years ago, the older sister was jealous of the younger sisterâs talent so she resorted to stealing her work and submitting it in her own name. She was found out in the end! She did not get accepted, neither did the younger sister.â
âHuh? Really? For real?â
âThe news spread through Azure High and the Royal Academy of Arts! It sure isnât fake.â
âWhat vile intentions! The enrolment to the Royal Academy of Arts only takes place once every three years. Itâs such a rare opportunity!â
âWho said it isnât?â
âWell, it means she doesnât have the skills to get accepted, but why did she have to steal the work of another? This is just bad conduct!
âIndeed, indeed.â
The girl named Em raised her brows in delight amid the conversation happening around.
Flustered in the face, Celine immediately explained, âQuit talking. Itâs not what you think it is. Sister... sister was in a moment of weakness, she didnât mean to!â
âCeline Jennings, youâre too kind! Why bother covering up for a person like this?â
âYes, sheâs taking advantage of you. She wonât thank you even if you concede. Donât be stupid!â
âNo, sister isnât such a person.â
âCeline, I have to say, youâre too much of a pushover. If I were you and have such a sister, Iâll retaliate, a tooth for a tooth, and let the world know so that sheâll never be able to live it down!â
