Chapter seventy one

“I should call Lucy back” I loved to stand up but I stopped him

“No. Let them sleep. You should get some sleep to” I told him.

“How could I sleep when you’re this sick?” He stood up with the damp towel and came back with it again. He continued to press the damp towel all over me throughout the night.

“What’s the time?” I asked when I noticed the atmosphere getting bright.

“Uhhh_ 7” He answered.

“Thank you for staying with me” i thanked him.

“Anytime love. Are you hungry?” He asked.

“I don’t think I can eat anything but I do feel really dirty” I confessed.

“Let me help you clean up” He stood up taking some time to stretch before pulling me to a sitting position.

“Tell me if I'm doing anything to hurt you more” He removed my tank top slowly to avoid it from touching the shoulder. He proceeded to remove my shorts.

“Let me run the bath.” with that Lucian left leaving me naked under the duvet. He came back ten minutes later.

Lucian carried me gently as we went Into the bathroom. He dropped me into the cool water holding my upper body preventing it from going into the water.

“I’ll start with the wound” He announced.

“No, please” I begged. It suddenly hurt more now that I moved positions.

“Jeez Raina. Does it hurt?” He touched my face and used his thumb to clean my face.

“Just clean it please” I begged shaking my face out of his hold. He did as I told him which I could see that he did not like. He had to get the cloth inside the open wound to clean it well. He rushed to the bathroom with the blood and dirt covered cloth and came back to carry me. He placed me gently on the bed hugging me yet careful not to touch my sore wound.

“I hate that I can’t help you feel better. I can’t do anything” Lucian complained.

“You’re doing just fine. It’s not your fault” I assured him but knowing Lucian it did not help him feel any better about him not being able to ease the excruciating pain I was feeling. Lucian continued to play with my hair as we both stayed quiet. After few minutes his phone started to ring.

“It might be important” I told him when he did not pick up after three rings. He stood up to pick up his phone from the dressing table.

“KILL THEM!” Lucian instructed whoever was on the other line of the phone.

“Who is that? What is happening?” I asked, worried.

“The human police. They traced those deaths to our pack” He answered taking his former position.

“Maybe I’m paying for killing those people” I cried out.

“Stop blaming yourself and let’s focus on treating this wound” I could tell that he was angry, worried so I just kept quiet.

“Good morning. How does it feel?” Lucy walked closer to me. As soon as she saw my wound she gasped loudly.

“It did not work?!” She screamed.

“Why didn’t you wake me up?”

“I wanted you to rest. You guys shouldn’t worry too much about me. I’m dying”

“Nonsense! I’m sure I will find something in my spell book” She assured. She stood up to go and get her spell book when a group of strangers walked in.

“Is this the room with the injured person?” A young man asked.

“Yes. How may we help you?” Lucian sounded irritated.

“I think we should ask that question instead” “We informed you?” Lucy asked curiously.

“That’s not important. We_”

“Get out” Lucian yelled. The young man leading the small group jumped back in fear.

“Our people where there yesterday when the accident happened. It’s our duty to make sure everyone is well taken care of.”

“Well, we don’t need you” I said.

“Let’s just have a look” The young boy insisted. Lucian eventually allowed them move closer to me. “The wound is _”

“Just do whatever you want. No talking” Lucian snapped. The young man was shaking as he brought out a clear white substance in a bottle and poured half of the content inside my open wound which surprisingly took half of the content.

“The_”

“Get out” Lucy was the one to talk now.

“But_” A middle aged woman amongst the group started.

“Just leave us. We will leave your hotel” Lucian said.

The small group of people left.

“That was so close” Lucy sighed.

“I know” Lucian replied.

“You should start packing and inform Henrietta too” Lucian said to Lucy. When Lucy left Lucian started packing our bag. He picked out a sleeveless gown for me and helped me put it on before he went to have his bath. He came back and got dressed quickly. An hour later and everybody is already ready to leave the pack. I suddenly heard a loud noise followed by people screaming. I stopped to confirm.

“Can you hear that?” Lucian nodded, positive. I stood up and ran out immediately. I could hear Lucian’s fast footsteps follow behind me. As soon as I got outside I saw three big dragons. Each dragon so similar. Their heavy wings on the floor. Their body filled with scales. Their claws so long. I then realized the middle one was the one who injured me last night. It still had my flesh in its claws.

“Don’t move closer Raina. We need to leave”

“No. This is why we are hear. We need their heirloom”

What I said triggered these dragons because they put out fire in my direction which I was able to escape quickly. I turned to stare at terrified Lucian before I changed into my light brown wolf. As I ran towards them I heard Lucian wolf behind me then in my mind.

‘This is very stupid of us”

I smiled inwardly as we charged towards the furious dragons. I was able to get a hold of one leg biting hard on it before I was flung away hitting the water fountain. The cycle of fight continued until I felt a big net drop on my head. I tried to tear it apart but it stung so bad like it was laced with wolfsbane. I looked me and everything was dark.

“Raina, Raina” I opened my eyes as I heard my name being called. I wanted to talk until I realized I was still in my wolf form. I laid down on my stomach looking around me only to see other animals like us. I could not tell if they were all shapeshifters too. I saw Lucian’s wolf.

“Thank goodness you’re ok” He said through the mind link.

“What is this place?” I asked.

“Some kind of wild animal control place.” He replied.

“We need to get out of here” I said.

“I don’t think we can. Look left” I did. The dragons were chained down, their mouths covered.

“Fuck”

“Same reaction I had”

“Where are the others?” I asked, scared they captured everyone.

“I saw them before I passed out. They were still in their human form” He told me “They’re going to come get us but while we wait I want you stay strong for me love”

“WHAT DO WE HAVE HERE”

A very old looking man walked in with a note pad and a pen in his hands.

“Your bald head” I said through the mind link causing Lucian’s wolf to roar out in laughter.

Fuck!

The man walked to his cage with an injection I just noticed. He injected Lucian causing him to pass put.

“Our first experiment” He announced.

Two young women and a man walked in dragging his passed out wolf out of the place. I prayed to the moon goddess to protect him. I knew a day already passed before they brought back Lucian’s wolf. I was worried all through the night and morning. His eyes were still closed when they brought him back.

“Close your eyes and act like you’re weak” I heard through the mind link. I did as I was told. They left and I stood back up staring at Lucian’s wolf. A big patch on his wolf’s shoulder.

“What did they do to you?” I asked.

“Nothing I couldn’t handle” He replied.

“I’m so sorry” I apologized.

“Nothing to be sorry about love” The old man walked in again this time with twelve young people all looking their early twenties. They each threw dead squirrels into our cages.

“EAT UP. WE DON’T WANT YOU DYING” He announced. Why was he screaming though?

“Don’t touch it. It’s being poisoned to make you weaker ” Lucian warned. I nodded moving away from the tempting meal. A day later again my wolf was getting weaker and I could feel my shoulder hurt more daily.

“Will they ever find us?” I asked on the afternoon of the third day here.

“Yes. Let’s trust them” He replied.

“Thank you for defending us” We both looked away to look up at the voice. I was so happy seeing Lucy, Jack and Henrietta standing in the middle of the room.

“Fast. Get the keys” Lucian instructed.

“Calm down. I have it. Lucy opened Lucian’s cage first before coming over to mine. Lucian rubbed against me gently.

“Are you ok?” He asked.

“Yes” I replied.

“We should release them” Lucian changed. Jack immediately threw him a short which he quickly pulled on.

“We should run! I told you looking for these dragons was trouble” Henrietta yelled.

“Release every animal” I said through my mind link before changing. Lucy gave me a very big shirt which I quickly put on.

“That button” Lucian pointed to a big yellow button that was glowing. He pulled me into a big hug.

“We’re ok” I reminded.

“We don’t have much time guys” Lucy said.

“Watch out!” I looked to my left quickly jumping down.

“That was close” Other animals already left leaving us and the dragons.

“I HOLD ENOUGH POWER TO DESTROY ALL OF YOU!” Lucy announced using her hands to produce fire. The dragons didn’t burn. Instead their scales withheld the fire. Lucy proceeded to mutter some spell causing the dragons to make loud noises as they fell slowly to the ground.

“GO, GO” She yelled. We ran under them. Before I left a big substance from the dragon fell on me wound. I screamed out loud. Lucian ran back and pulled me out. Minutes later Lucy joined us.

“I saw a tear drop on your wound.

“It hurts” I groaned.

“It’s healing” Lucy smiled looking closely to my wound.

“Are you serious?” I could not believe it.

“Why does it hurt so bad”

“I don’t know but it is healing” She replied.

“We should leave” Jack said. We all left the place.

“I got us a cheap motel to us for the night. We are leaving tomorrow afternoon” Jack told us in the car.

“It’s high time we did” Lucy agreed. “The dragons are dead. How do we get a hold of their heirloom”

“We’ll figure it out” I promised.

“The wound is healed” Lucian announced smiling. I looked at it and saw my skin was back to normal.

“So a dragon’s tear was what we needed” Lucy said.

“Pretty much” I replied.

“A lot happened in such little time” Ri said. We all agreed with her.

“We’re here” Jack announced.

“Remind me why we are here again” Lucy asked.

“Because they might be out looking for us. They saw you guys changing” Jack answered. We went into our various rooms to bath.

“Thank you” I jumped on Lucian as soon as we entered the small room.

“Anytime love. I’m glad you are ok” He smiled. I leaned in closer to him and kissed him.

“You must be so hungry. Clean up and I’ll get you something” He kissed me again dropping me.

“You also need to get cleaned up” I told him. We cleaned up together in the bathroom before we went outside to eat.
