Chapter 36

She saw a man of about forty years of age sitting on the sofa, gentle and elegant. It was a man who was undoubtedly at handsome man when he was young.

Seeing the woman in front of him looked frightened, Troy gestured for her to look outside the door with his eyes, then smiled softly. “Relax. I came with him.”

Bentley pushed the door from the outside and Nydia hastily moved out of the way. He reassured Nydia. “It’s okay. They

won’t come in.”

Nydia patted her chest. Looking at the two men in front of her, she pondered in her mind, ‘It’s true that people of one kind come together. People like Bentley who is gentle are surrounded by gentle people, while people like Cade who are gloomy and cold–blooded are surrounded by bitch like Josephine who is scheming.”

“Thanks.” Nydia sat down next to them after sorting out her messy clothes and hair.

“I’m surprised to meet you here. Bentley handed her wet wipes in a natural manner.

Nydia took two in a row. Worried that she still needed it, Bentley kept holding the bag of wet wipes waiting for her.

Troy kept a smile on his face as he watched them without saying a word.

“Me too.” With that, Nydia suddenly looked up and sneezed heavily. She then muttered, “I went to the hospital for treatment this morning, but the nurse said she didn’t know where you had gone.”

Bentley frowned. “God bless you. You caught a cold?”

“Yes, I have a slight cold. But I’ve taken the medicine and I’m much better now.” Nydia dropped the used wipes in the trash.

Bentley made to reach out and touch her forehead, but she dodged silently and sniffed with a smile. “I’m really fine.”

Her movement caused Bentley to freeze, but he quickly came back to his senses. “Good to know you’re fine.” He then asked, “What’s going on with you and them?”

Nydia related what she had just experienced. Bentley listened and looked at Troy. “You’re from Mewarting City. Are you familiar with this company?”

Troy thought about it and shook his head. “Maybe it’s a new start–up? I haven’t heard of it but I can help you inquire about

it.”

Nydia felt a bit embarrassed to trouble someone the first time they met. She thanked Troy. “Thank you, sir.”

“I’m Troy Miles.” Troy introduced himself with a smile. There was admiration in his eyes as he looked at Nydia. “Mrs. Jackson, I’ve heard a lot about you before. It’s my honor to see you here today. You’re really as capable as I heard. In the bidding case of Lakeview, Creekheim, many companies were competing for it, but in the end, it fell to Jackson Group. And you, as the main person in charge, played an indispensable role.”

Nydia couldn’t help but laugh when Troy mentioned the past. “Don’t exaggerate. In Creekheim, no one can compete with the

“Mrs. Jackson, don’t underestimate yourself. I’ve had the privilege of reading your bidding document, which was over two hundred pages long. It was breathtaking.” Troy poured Nydia a glass of wine and held it up with grace and reserve. Td be delighted if Mrs. Jackson would take the time to have a meal with me.”

Nydia had been suppressed for a long time in Jackson Group. When she suddenly heard someone praising herself, a blush appeared on her face. She raised the wine glass to clink it with Troy and Bentley. “Mr. Miles, you flatter me. Just call me Nydia

A complicated look showed in Bentley’s eyes for a moment as his lips touched the glass and he took a sip.

It was ten o’clock in the evening when the three of them emerged from inside.

Bentley offered to drive Nydia back to her hotel, but Nydia refused.

Although she knew that Bentley was well–intentioned, she didn’t want to cause unnecessary misunderstandings.

But the three agreed to have lunch together the next day. At that time, Troy would tell her what he got.

Nydia took a cab back to the hotel by herself. After taking a shower, she lay on the bed checking Twitter.

As soon as she opened Twitter, she saw a couple of trending topics, and they were all about Lewis, ‘Lewis’s vocal cord paralyzed“, “Lewis lost followers“, “Lewis is a scumbag” and “Lewis, get out of showbiz….

The top 10 trending topics were all about Lewis.

Nydia frowned as that handsome face of Lewis flashed through her mind. He looks so handsome and seems like a very decent person. How come his personal life is so messed up? Did his vocal cords paralyze? Then there’s really no way for him to continue working in showbiz. He’s indeed a hateful and pathetic person, thought she to herself.

Nydia sighed for a while. After the cold medicine took effect, she was quickly engulfed by drowsiness and fell asleep.

She woke up the next day feeling much better.

They had lunch at a restaurant with decorative styles in westem countries.

The news Troy brought her was not very good. “Nydia, I’m afraid you made a wasted trip. That company signed with Warren Group a week ago.”

Troy couldn’t understand how Nydia, as the wife of Jackson Group’s CEO,

was unaware of this news.

Nydia was stunned and couldn’t believe what she heard. “They’ve signed someone else?”

“Yes, they signed with the richest group in Mewarting City, the Warren Group.”

Nydia gradually tightened her grip on the fork, her lips pressed into a line. A few seconds later, she suddenly stood up. Tm going to the restroom.”

Seeing her face go pale, Bentley wanted to stand up and chase after her. Troy pressed his shoulder and shook his head at

Nydia called the CEO’s office. It took a while before the call was answered.

“Hello?” The man’s cold voice came through.

Nydia tightened her grip on her cell phone. She forced down the desire to break into a rage and sneered out, “Mr. Jackson, is it fun to fool me?”

Cade’s eyes sank. “What?”

“That company was acquired by someone else a week ago. Why did you even send me here? Is it fun to make fun of me? Are you guys that bored?”

Nydia’s breath was unsteady, her chest heaving violently. She couldn’t believe that Cade, as the CEO, wouldn’t know about something this big.

Josephine was making coffee for Cade. When she felt the gloomy gaze behind her, she was so shocked. In a hurry, she turned around. She saw Cade staring at her, and that gaze was very penetrating.

“Cade, what’s wrong?” Josephine forced herself to stay calm,

Nydia heard Josephine’s words clearly on the other end of the phone, and her anger grew even more. She simply hung up the phone.

project in Mewarting City has been finalized?” Cade looked at Josephine coldly.

Josephine paused for a moment, feeling flustered as she thought to herself, ‘It should be Nydia’s call just now, so the situation in Mewarting City may have been exposed”

But she wasn’t afraid because she had already found a good excuse

“What? It has finalized? Josephine pretended to be surprised and widened her eyes. “But they just emailed me yesterday saying that it’s not finalized yet and they requested us to negotiate as soon as possible. Thinking that Nydia is familiar with this area, I sent her to negotiate.”

She said as she hurried over, looking flustered. “What’s wrong? Is something wrong?”

Cade didn’t speak, but his penetrating eyes stared at Josephine as if he was trying to see her through.

He’d never looked at Josephine like that before, and it made Josephine full of vigilance. But she hid it well.

Just as he was about to make her feel guilty, Cade took his gaze back. “It’s fine. I let you go.”

Josephine didn’t dare to stay longer and hurriedly walked out. When she reached her office, she picked up her cell phone and dialed a number.
