Chapter 46

Running Into You

“Can I speak with Margaret Sloan, please?”

“This is, how can I help you?”

“Ms. Sloan, my name is Tanya with Secure Lock. You have an account with us to monitor your credit and identity.”

“Yes, that is correct.”

“Can you please confirm your security question and account number so that I can continue?”

“Oh, just a moment. Let me get that,” Maggie said as she scurried out of the bedroom and found the account number and security question she had written down in Liam’s office.

It was so hard to find a security question that Olivia didn’t know. She knew her favorite teacher, first pet, high school, and all the other usual questions. Liam had helped her come up with a new one.

“Okay, the account number is 69326540; my security question is ‘Where do I want to go on vacation?’ and the answer is ‘the Maldives,’” Maggie replied as she sighed and sat at the desk.

Liam watched Maggie to make sure she was okay while he texted Nick to come to the office right away.

“Thank you, Ms. Sloan. I am calling to make you aware that a request has been made with your name and social security number to open a department store credit card and for a lease on an apartment.

“Did you request these things, or should we deny them?”

Maggie’s eyes went wide. They were at it again!

“No, those are not me! I am not trying to open any accounts or get an apartment! Damn it!” Maggie fumed.

Nick came in, closing the door behind him softly. He tapped her on the shoulder and whispered, “Put it on speaker.”

“Tanya, I am going to put you on speaker so my fiancé can hear this. He is also my attorney and has access to this account. You will find his name, Liam Olsen, under the authorized users.”

“That is fine, Ms. Sloan.”

“Thank you, Tanya,” Liam said. “What location was the apartment application opened at?”

“Greensville, South Carolina. Mr. Olsen. And what store?” Liam asked. Maggie noticed that he had motioned for Nick to write things down. Nick sat down, scribbling furiously.

“It was a Sears department store, sir.”

“Excellent! In the same city, Greensville?”

“Yes sir.”

“Right then, what else does Maggie have to do with this situation?”

“Nothing sir. I have it on record that she did not open these or authorize them and they will be declined.”

“Is there any way I can get a copy of the requests? We are keeping evidence for potential criminal action.”

“Of course, Mr. Olsen, give me your email address and I will get those to you right away.”

Liam rattled off his email as Nick took out his phone and typed something. The agent disconnected the call, and Maggie looked at Liam in fury.

“How dare they? Once was not enough to ruin my life? They had to try again! God, I am so pissed!” she ranted as she paced between the two men.

“I know, darling, but now that we know where they are, I can have a private investigator track them down and get them arrested. Don’t worry, okay?”

Brett arrived, having overheard what they said. He glared at Liam as Maggie went to tell Makayla what had happened.

“Liam, when you find them, I want to be there when they are brought in! I want to see it for myself!”

“Don’t worry, mate, we’ll both be there! Nick, get Matthews on this now! I want him on a plane to Greenville tonight!”

“I already texted him. He is packing now,” Nick replied with a nod.

Nick had come to like Maggie and saw how good she was for Liam. He wanted to see her get some justice.

They went back to their party and finished dessert. Brett put his arm around Sheila and kissed her temple as she looked at him.

Maggie saw the spark in her eye and smiled. This was going to develop into something real, she just knew it!

Maggie crawled into bed next to Liam a few hours later, laying her head on his chest. “I think it’s safe to say that we shocked everyone with our news!”

“That is an understatement! I thought for a minute that my brother was going to punch me!”

Maggie laughed and kissed him soundly on the lips. “Me too. Your dad had this weird twitch next to his eye.”

“Oh? That’s not good! We learned when we were younger that if his eye twitched, he was really pissed off and someone was going to get thumped!”

She giggled. “Well, I’m glad that didn’t happen! Although it would have made a great story to tell!”

He laughed and propped up on one arm to look at her. “You know, we didn’t get a chance to celebrate our good news last night…”

“Isn’t that what got us here in the first place?”

“True, but now we don’t have to worry about birth control!” he said triumphantly.

Maggie laughed as he ran his hands under her shirt and silenced her laughs with his mouth.

No more laughing happened that night, but both looked forward to the laughter they would share for years to come.
