Chapter 109

I Refuse to Divorce!

Mason responded lightly after Ava was done talking.

“I'm coming over right now.”

However, he didn't leave immediately. Instead, he touched Zoe's cheek

lightly. It wasn't warm like before. In fact, it was rather cold.

He said in a deep voice, “I need to go to the hospital. You should go

ahead and head to bed.”

Zoe stayed silent.

Grabbing his coat from the bed, he put it on and leaned down to touch

her cheeks again before leaving.

It was a windy autumn night.

The moment he had left, she relaxed and started panting lightly.

It was a good thing Ava called when she did. Luckily, Mason had to

leave because something happened to Lilith. Otherwise, she might've

just given in to his tender moves and brought pain and misery to

herself.

Sliding off the makeup table, she looked at both the business card as

well as the diary and tucked them away.

All of her youthful memories were in that diary.

She might have hated Mason intensely, but never once had she

thought to throw her diary away.

Lilith was still in the emergency room when Mason arrived at the

hospital. Eric was standing at the door with a blank expression. Carly,

on the other hand, was sitting on the floor, wailing at the top of her

lungs.

She demanded to see the hospital director.

“Lilith was about to get married to Mason. If you guys won't surrender

the culprit, my future son-in-law is going to shut your hospital down! All

of you will be out of jobs and end up on the street!”

Ava couldn't stand her. Noticing that Mason was walking toward them,

she yelled at Carly, “Mr. Mason's here! Shut your trap unless you want

him to pull the plug on Lilith's treatment!”

Carly had always been an arrogant person, but she cowered the

moment she saw Mason.

Bawling, she asked him to speak on her behalf, “Lilith saved your life,

Mason. You have to do everything you can to return the favor! Please, I

beg of you.”

She was trying to leverage on his sympathy, but it didn’t work.

Sitting down on the bench, he turned to face Ava and asked her, “What

happened?”

She responded briefly, “It was medical malpractice. The hospital has

filed a police report, but the hasn't been an update since then. What

should we do now, Mr. Mason?”

Staring at the operating room, he spoke after a brief pause, “Send her

to Lockwood Hospital once she’s out of danger.”

That made Carly feel a little guilty. They had tried to lord their

superiority over the Sanders's before. That was why they picked

Samphia Hospital. However, she had no way of knowing that they had

planted their own people here.

That had to be what had happened. She had to tell Mason about it.

“Lilith had always been honest and kind to others. No one would dream

of hurting her. The way I see it, someone's trying to take her out of the

competition!

“I've heard that Zoe's close friend works in this hospital. It seems he

holds a high position here too. It's probably his doing. He's the only

person with the authority and means, after all. You have avenge Lilith,

Mason.”

Ava was impressed by her, in a manner of speaking. The doctors were

still trying to save her daughter's life, and, here she was, devising a

plan to kill two birds with one stone.

At that moment, a tall figure was headed toward them from the other

end of the hallway.

That got Carly excited even more!

She grumbled, “There he is! His name's Cecil. I can't believe he's in

cahoots with Zoe to put my daughter in harm's way. You had better look

properly into your wife's social activities, Mason. Don't give her the

chance to cheat on you.”

Carly had no inkling of how disastrous her action was.

Mason's face was as dark as coal. Seeing Cecil reminded him of the

sadness in Zoe's eyes and the fact that his wife might love another

man. He was also reminded of the fact that his wife had Liam's

business card and was plotting to divorce him!

Cecil approached him.

He looked at Mason and smiled sarcastically. “You're quite the busy

man, Mason! You're here to look after your mistress in the dead of

night. Aren't you worried that it might lead to a fight with your wife?”

Mason smacked his legs lightly. He smiled coldly and said, “I'm not like

you, Cecil. I don't fool around with some other man's wife. You gave

Zoe a homemade pizza and a ride home. I'm sure you were so pleased

with how romantic you thought you were!”

Cecil tucked his hands in the pockets of his doctor's coat. Beneath the

fluorescent light, he did look a lot like Mason.

After a brief pause, he said lightly, “That's because you didn't

appreciate her!”
