Chapter 48 Burn Her Alive Corynn was shocked to the core.

She opened her mouth to say something to the person who had picked up the call, but she couldn’t bring herself to utter a single word.

These men had outsmarted her by pretending to leave when in fact, they just waited around, waiting for her to lose her guard and reveal herself.

Unconsciously, Corynn swallowed hard and clutched her phone tightly.

At that moment, a voice came from the other end of the call, asking, “Hello, who is this and how can I help you?”

Trembling with fear, Corynn didn’t move a single limb and kept her eyes on the man named Coby.

“Hello? Is someone there? Are you in any sort of danger?” the voice from the other end inquired persistently.

Without really thinking about what she was doing, Corynn tapped on the back of the phone in a synchronized manner to send a signal; three long taps, three short.

After doing this, the person at the end of the other line went silent.

Chuckling satisfactorily, Coby pointed a finger at her and said, “I have to give it to you, your ability to hide so well is quite impressive.”

Squatting down to take a closer look at Corynn in the pit, he continued, “For what it’s worth, I feel sorry that someone wants you dead. You should know that I personally have nothing against you.”

Swallowing hard, Corynn said as calmly as she could, “Whatever it is that you were paid, I’m ready and willing to pay more. All I ask from you is that you let me go.”

Just as Coby opened his mouth to reply, the rest of the lackeys came running up to him and one of them said as he panted, “Coby, there’s no one down the hill *

Smiling, Coby gestured at them to come closer and look into the pit. When they did so and saw Corynn inside, they widened their eyes in surprise.

“How dare this wench play such a dirty trick on us! So, she has been here all this time!” one of the lackeys fumed.

“For someone to have the gut to fight back against the Willis family and win, it should be clear to see that such a person would be as cunning as a fox,” Coby said with a chuckle.

Hearing this, the lackeys looked at each other and nodded slightly, agreeing with Coby’s words.

“Tell me how much you were paid and I would give you double the amount for you to let me go,” Corynn said as firmly as she could.

Shaking his head slightly, Coby lit a cigarette, clicked his tongue, and replied, “Your offer is quite tempting, but 1213 <

As Coby walked aside, the lackeys began to dump branches and dead grass into the pit. Corynn did all she could to avoid the falling objects, but she still got hit by some of them. These bastards were going to bury her alive!

“Unfortunately for you, you wronged those who you shouldn’t have dared to even look in the eye. But then, if only you hadn’t troubled us just now, we might have agreed to a deal to let you go,” a buzz–cut lackey said as he pulled out a lighter.

With a chuckle, he lit the lighter and dropped it onto the branches and dead grasses in the pit.

Widening her eyes in horror, Corynn watched as the flame became a roaring fire in less than a minute.

What they intended to do was to burn her alive!

“Fear not, you’ll soon find yourself in heaven!” the buzz–cut lackey called out with a cackle as he turned around and walked away from the pit.

After seeing the flames rising from the pit, Coby gathered his men together and led them away.

There was no way Corynn would survive with such a huge fire. Her bones would be all that would be left of her by tomorrow morning.

Corynn backed up against the wall as much as she could as the intense heat from the flame began to discomfort her.

Desperately, she clawed at the dirt from the wall and threw it at the flames. When she realized that the wetness of the soil could help extinguish the fire, she quickly took out her shoe and used the heel of it to scra at the wall, using her other hand to fling the clumps of dirt that fell off onto the fire.

As the soil was damp and soft, large chunks of dirt fell off each time she struck the wall with her shoe.

And with each chunk of dirt that she flung at the fire, its intensity reduced slightly.

12:13 des, thanks to a thick tree tronk above her, she was protected from most of the worst of the blaze.

However, she was wall aware that this was just a temporary fix. The trunk could fall at any time and trap her, which would definitely cause her to die. One way or another, she had to get out before the trunk fell.
