Chapter 29
Mr.Billionaire Meets Ms.Clumsy
"Emilyn, watch out!" Someone shouted and she lookup.
"What's wrong?" Emilyn asked.
"Your cup almost overflowed," Will said. "What's going on? You are never distracted."
"Something happened yesterday," Emilyn told him. "Something felt so fake, but is real."
"Okay?" He looks at her weirdly. "Whatever it is, focus on your job." He sigh.
"I'm sorry, just got distracted. I promise it would never happen again." Emilyn drew a cross on her heart with her index finger.
"Good, now get back to work. No more distraction." Will chases her away with his hands.
"Aye, aye captain." Emilyn put her hand up into a salute and Will can't help it to smile. "Anyways, why are you here again?"
"I told the boss to change my shift to Sunday so I can have a day off on Monday." He said. "And Patricia can't come on Sunday so, I'm here now."
Emilyn nods, "weirdly you have taken the job, you hated it last time."
"But I get to rest on Monday, while everyone has to get out to work. So is a bonus deal for me." He said. Emilyn bobbed and they continue working till the end of the shift.
"Ahh." Will stretch his back. "Finally, I can get out of here."
"I still have no idea why you want to take this shift." Emilyn shakes her head and chuckle.
"See you next week."
"Yup," Emilyn waves bye to him and he walks in his direction and she walks towards hers.
"Emilyn." She turns around and saw Christopher lean against his car. "How did I not notice him?" Emilyn thought.
"Hi," Emilyn said with a small smile.
"Come on, let's get you home." Christopher opens the car door for her. Once he got in, they drove in silence all the way home.
"Thank you for the ride." Emilyn unbuckles her seatbelt.
"Uhm..." Christopher rubs the back of his neck. "Have you thought about what I said yesterday?"
"No, yes...I mean no, I mean yes." Emilyn stumbles at her words.
"Slow down, you don't have to be so nervous. I'm just asking a question." He chuckles
"I'm sorry, I mean to say yes I thought about it."
"And..." Christopher leans towards her, with anticipation.
"And the answer is yes, I would love to." Christopher's face lights up and his mouth turns into a big smile. "So I guess we are a thing now," Emilyn asked.
"Definitely." The smile on Christopher's face is still there.
"I have one request." Emilyn said, "Can we keep this between us for the meantime? I just don't want it to be a public thing."
"Sure." Christopher nods.
"Okay, so I'll be going now," Emilyn said nervously.
"Hold on," Christopher took a jacket, hat, and a mask from the back seat and put it on. Emilyn frowned, "what is he doing with those things." Emilyn thought. She watches Christopher got out of the car and open her door.
"Christopher, you don't have to do this. I don't want to risk anyone seeing you." Emilyn said stepping out of the car.
"Don't worry, I got this on. No one will recognize me." Christopher pulls his hat lower.
"Are sure?" Emilyn asks.
"Positive. Now stop worrying and let me do my first boyfriend duty to walk you to your home." Christopher put out his hand for Emilyn to take.
She looks at it and places her hands right in his. They head into the building, "Christopher." Emilyn tiptoe to whisper into his ear while they were in the elevator.
Christopher leans down to hear her, "People are looking at us." Emilyn pointed to those people in the front. Christopher looks up at those people and they quickly look away. "Don't worry about it." He lightly chuckles. The elevator opens to her floor and quickly pull Christopher out.
Emilyn let out a breath, "thank god I live on the 4th floor."
"Is not that bad." Christopher let out a little laugh.
They stop in front of Emilyn's door, "So this is me." Emilyn smile, avoiding contact looking down on the floor.
"This is my first boyfriend duty, complete," Christopher said and Emilyn chuckle.
"Uhm...so I will just be going now." She points back at her door, nervously
"Breath," Christopher told her, Emilyn didn't even know that she had stopped breathing. "Relax, I'm not going to kill you." He rubs the side of her arms soothingly. Emilyn took a breath in and out.
"I'm sorry, I don't know what am I suppose to do." Emilyn let out a nervous laugh. "This is my first time for all this." She points in a circle around them.
"Don't worry, you'll get used to it." Christopher gave her a toothy smile.
"So, should I go back in the house or what?" Emilyn asked.
Christopher chuckles, "without a goodnight kiss?" He raises an eyebrow. He then pulls her in by the waist, flushes against him, and slowly leans down to meet her lips.
"Christopher," Emilyn put her hand out on his shoulder. "I'm not sure how to do this." Emilyn flicked from his lips back to his eyes, her heart pounded against her rib cage.
"Just follow my lead." Christopher leans down slowly and places his lips softly on hers. Emilyn stood there frozen. "Relax," Christopher said against her lips.
He once again places his soft lips on Emilyn and kisses her ever so gently and slowly. Emilyn follow his action and parted her lips a little.
Christopher broke the kiss and Emilyn bit on the bottom of her lip. She looks down on the floor embarrassed. "That's not that bad." Christopher chuckles. He tilts down to look at her flush face.
"Hey." Christopher lifts her head by the chin. "Don't have to be embarrassed, you did great for your first time."
"You stole my first kiss you know," Emilyn said softly enough for him to hear.
"I know." Christopher chuckles, Emilyn face redden. "Come on, let's get you home." He put out his palm. Emilyn tilts her head and frown. "Give me your key."
Emilyn frown but just did what he said. She hands him the key and Christopher unlocks the door. "There you go."
"Thanks." Emilyn pulls the key out of the keyhole. "I should head inside now, is late."
"Yeah." He said.
Emilyn opens her door and got into the house. "You should be going too, I'm sorry that kept you up this late." She apologizes, standing at the doorway of her house.
"Is fine, I won't be able to sleep if I know you are not safe at home."
Emilyn nods, "goodnight."
"Goodnight, Emilyn." Christopher smiled at her and walks away, but turns back and gave one last wave. Once Christopher got into the elevator, Emilyn closes her door.
"I got a boyfriend," Emilyn said to myself. "Me! I got a boyfriend." She put her hands on her head and twirl around the living room.
***
"Here is the final draft of the article on Christopher Evans." Emilyn shows her laptop to Taylor. She took a few minutes to read the article.
"Good." Taylor looks back up at Emilyn. "Send me the pdf, then I'll send it to print." Emilyn nods and smiles. "Good job on your first article."
"Thank you." Emilyn smiles and heads out with her computer in her hand. A message sounded on Emilyn's phone, "Hey, picking you up tonight at 7 pm for our official first date." Christopher texted.
"Date?" Emilyn text back. "Since when did I agree to go on a date?"
"Do you want to go on a date?"
"Seriously?"
"Just say yes."
"Fine, yes." Emilyn texts with a smile on her face.
"Great, pick you up at 7. Dress code is semi-formal." Emilyn put her phone down on the table and let out a light giggle.
"What got you smiling like that?" Andrew came over to her desk.
"Nothing."
"I see," He narrowed his eyes.
"What are you doing here?" Emilyn asked.
"Just want to see if you want to go for lunch."
"Sure." She grabs her things and they head to lunch.
***
"Okay, I got my phone and my wallet." Emilyn checks her bag for the last time. She looks in the mirror for the last time. Smoothing down the blue knee-length dress and pulling on her black short jean jacket. With one final nod, she heads out.
"Where are you going?" Grandma Lou asked when she notices Emilyn all dress out.
"Dang it, I forgot to tell her that I'm going on a date", Emilyn thought. "Uhm...I'm going to meet a friend for dinner." Emilyn told grandma Lou.
"Friend? Who is it?" She asked. "Is it Ana?"
"No," Emilyn replied so quickly that Grandma Lou got taken aback by her answer. "I mean, not with her. Some of my friends from work. We are going to a restaurant to celebrate my first article."
"Okay, be careful." Grandma Lou said and head into her room.
"Phew." Emilyn let out a breath.
"I'm here, coming up to get you." Christopher texts
"No, I'll come down. You don't have to come up." Emilyn text back. She didn't bother to wait for his message and put her phone in the bag.
"Bye Grandma, I'm leaving now," Emilyn shout once more, before closing the door. Emilyn got down as fast as possible, but when she reached the lobby Christopher walks towards the elevator with a mask and hat on.
"Christopher." Emilyn stops in front of him.
"I was about to get you," Christopher said.
"I told you, you don't have to," Emilyn told him. "Come on, let's go." She pulls him out of the lobby. They got into the car and Christopher took out his disguise.
Christopher turns to looks at Emilyn, "You look beautiful."
"Thank you," Emilyn said with a smile. "You look not bad yourself."
Christopher then drove them to the restaurant, they arrive at the restaurant in 30 minutes. "Hey, wait." Emilyn touches his arm before he can open his door.
"What is it?" Christopher turns to Emilyn.
"What if someone sees us?" She asked.
"Don't worry, this restaurant is own by one of my friends. I've already requested one table that no one will notice us."
"But if we walk out of here, they will notice," Emilyn told him.
"That's why I have this with me." Christopher pulls up his hat and mask. Emilyn smiles, Christopher put it on and told her, "Wait here."
"I'll do it by myself," Emilyn said and open the car door. They walk towards the restaurant but keeps their distance as far as possible.
"Table for Christopher Evans." He told the guy at the front of the restaurant.
"Yes, I'll escort you to your table." The young waiter escorts them to their table.
Once they were seated, a waiter came and pour them some water into their glass. Emilyn said, "This is the fanciest restaurant I've been to. I feel a little out of place." She takes a glance around the restaurant.
"If you want we can go somewhere else you are comfortable with?" Christopher suggest.
"No, is fine." Emilyn shakes her head. "So, what's good here?" Emilyn asks flicking through the menu.
"The steak, lamb chop, and the grilled fish are good," Christopher told her.
"Then I'll get the fish." Christopher raises his hand to signal the waiter.
After ordering their food, Emilyn asked, "Do you want to play our game? I think you still have some questions left."
"Sure." Christopher takes a sip of his water.
"I'll start first," Emilyn suggest. "Let's start off easy, would you rather have no one show up to your wedding or funeral?"
Christopher frowns, "You call this easy."
"Come on, just answer the question," Emilyn told him.
"Fine, I think wedding?" He shrugs. "My turn, where would you want to travel to?"
"Hmm, I'm not sure. I would say everywhere if that is possible." Emilyn answers. The food came and they dig in. "Have you fired someone and when do you do it?" Emilyn swallowed her food before asking.
"When did I fired someone?" He questioned with one eyebrow raise.
"What I mean is do you fire in the afternoon, morning, or almost time to get off of work?" Emilyn explains clearly.
Christopher chuckles, "Of course, I had fired someone, tons of them." He said. "When?" Emilyn asks.
Christopher thought for a while. "I think is anytime. And if it was you when would you do it?"
"If I have to fire someone it will be when is almost time to get off work," Emilyn replied
"Why?" he asked.
"Because he/she will pack up their things and don't have to come back the next day," Emilyn explain. "If it is in the morning and afternoon it will be sad, they have to pack their things and everyone watching he/she."
"Very interesting thought you have there Ms Walker." Christopher let out a small laugh. "By the way, how many questions do we each have left?"
"I have 1 and you have 5 left," Emilyn told her.
"You keep track?" Christopher asked, with an amused face.
"Yeah, otherwise you might cheat."
"How will I cheat, this isn't a game where you could cheat," Christopher states the obvious.
"Whatever is your turn to ask now." Emilyn rolled her eyes and dig into her food again.
"what do you like to do during your free time?" Christopher asked
"Watch tv and eat my favorite snack." She answered easily.
"What's your favorite snack?" Christopher asked.
"You know that it is not your turn?" Emilyn told him.
"Yeah, but it just came into my mind."
"Fine, is ritz cracker especially the original." The thought about it makes Emilyn smile. "For my final question, do you think that I bump into you was on purpose?"
"I don't think so, if you bump into me on purpose you should know who I am. But maybe you might pretend not knowing me?" Christopher said.
"Hey!" Emilyn was incredulous. "How could you think that I bump into you on purpose? I don't even know you." She crosses her arms and pout.
"I'm just teasing you." Christopher laughs. "Of course, I knew you didn't do it on purpose. When you bump into me, your face was shocked and totally have no clue at all." He said. "But when I gave you my shirt to get it clean, your face reddens and you try so hard to be mad at me, but you are just so cute."
"Christopher." Emilyn scolded him and pout. "You know that I'm still mad about that shirt and also the phone number you wrote on my arm with a permanent marker," She emphasizes the word permanent marker.
"I'm sorry." Christopher lets out a little laugh. Emilyn turns away from him and huff. "Hey, don't be mad." Christopher reaches out to take Emilyn's hand in his.
Emilyn didn't react to him and he sighs "Let's go." He asks the waiter for the bill and he pulls her up from the seat and they head out of the restaurant.
Christopher drove Emilynback and they didn't speak at all for the whole car ride. "Listen." Christopher starts as he stops in front of the apartment. "I'm sorry that I asked you to clean my shirt and wrote on your arm with a permanent marker. But just so you know it was your fault who spill drinks all over my shirt."
"I didn't mean to and I said I'm sorry," Emilyn said with a frown on her face.
"How am I going to race with a sticky shirt? Of course, you have to clean it." Christopher said with a 'duh' tone.
"Fine, is my fault. I should have watched where I'm going, if I did I won't bump into you." Emilyn turns to look in the other direction, facing the window next to her.
"If you didn't bump into me, then we won't meet. And sitting right next to me won't be my beautiful, kind girlfriend." Emilyn turns back around to face Christopher. "Remember you once ask me what was the mistake that I would make all over again?" Emilyn nod. "Is meeting you, bumping into you was an accident, a mistake. But a mistake that I'll do it a billion times."
Emilyn smile at what he said, her heart starts to pound in her rib cage and butterflies start to flutter about in her stomach.
"So does this means you are not mad at me?" Christopher asked.
"No, you are forgiven." Emilyn smiles.
"Even the permanent marker incident?"
"Yes, every single thing." She bopped his nose and giggle. "Wow, what a great ending for our official date." Emilyn chuckle.
"Let me show you a better ending," Christopher said and cup her cheeks, tilted his head and place his lips gently on hers. Emilyn's lips parted and move her lips in sync with his.
It starts off slow and gentle, just like the kiss they had yesterday. His lips are soft which makes it hard for her to stay away. Emilyn keeps wanting more of his touch. She places her hands ever so comfortably on the side of his neck. Christopher slowly deepened the kiss, pressing his lips harder onto hers. Emilyn had a hard time keeping up, she slides both of her hands down his shoulder and creates a space to pull away breathlessly.
He places his forehead on Emilyn and catches their breath. "Thank you for giving me this chance," Christopher said in a soft voice and tug the loose hair behind her ear.
"You're welcome." Emilyn smiles brightly.
